Antonio Maria Giuliani
(Ravenna, 17 August 1739 - Modena, 21 February 1831)
Italian keyboardist and composer. Trained at an early age in Modena, he was a member of the Accademia filarmonica, and in 1773 he became maestro di cappella at the main cathedral in the city. In 1783 he took on the additional post of in-house composer at the Teatro, retiring about 1807. His music is all but unknown outside of a concerto for two mandolins and orchestra. His works, however, include operas, sacred music, and chamber works.

I checked the publication timeline of his works because I have never heard of his name before. There are some publications in 1790s but after that nothing at all. And all of a sudden, there are 5 publications for Concerti per Mandolini ( conpilation ) in 1986. Very interesting. Did somebody discover his works by chance and decide to publish them? In any case, very pleasant music. 🧡

A pleasing composition. Unfortunately I have a block in my mind, or ear? which really does not like the sound of plucked instruments. Goodness knows why. The only exception is the lute and possibly the magnificent harpsichord, although that in only rather short bursts. A harpsichord continuo though is quite acceptable. Isn't it strange that some people do balk at certain types of sound. That said, I can usually appreciate virtuosi performances even on instruments which I do not like. I once heard on the radio a guitar arrangement of "Pictures from an Exhibition", which is played far too often for me to want to hear it again. I groaned as it was announced and prepared to switch off but was almost immediately captivated by it. Now how can the the combination of two things which I find uninspiring overcome my prejudices?

Lei ha ragione. Anche Mozart e Beethoven non sopportavano il flauto, mentre a me dà sui nervi il violino!
