Naps in general are important. I am not just living a vocally demanding life but its physical. I dance and sing. During my 5 week run of a musical I had to find “full nap time” during work schedule and performance. So I had no choice but to cut out watching tv and stuff. So I wasn’t just voice naps it was full deep sleep naps. Needless to say it works. And I love my mid afternoon naps before a rehearsal if I get off work early. Even 1 hour. Sometimes it’s 2 hour’s depending on my time I have. Also when people wanted to go out for drinks after the shows I went home and wound down and went to sleep. Drink loads of water, eat foods that are anti inflammatory, stay away from junky salty foods. I sing everday but I have “quiet time, nap time, kitty cuddles time” etc.
I have a cancerous tumor on my right vocal cord. I had 35 radiation therapy sessions and the treatment ended two weeks ago. I am still losing my voice. Is there a solution to this problem, please?
Thank you Katarina madam all your videos are very helpful. I am doing these exercises regularly. I have been diagnosed recently mild phonetary gap. Kindly suggest how to rectify. Is there any exercises please upload madam. Thank you.
I think I mentioned previously that it depends on how big the phonatory gap is and what it causes. And sometimes, the phonatory gap will not improve, however you can improve overall vocal function. So it is very hard to give a specific exercise for this. But many of the exercises on this channel improve overall vocal function, like resonance exercises (humming), fricatives, NG sirens etc.
Thank you so much for all your efforts! I love the content. Question: I have a laryngitis, is it ok if I speak from time to time? becus I have to use my voice during the day quite a lot. Will I be able to recover my voice that way? or I need to shut it for 3-4 days completely?
Hello Katarina, I just found your channel today because I had a vocal injury last night. I have a question - is exercising (like running, lifting weights) strenuous on the vocal chords? Basically, I am on vocal rest today because my voice is damaged. Should I refrain from working out today or is it totally separate?
Working out can influence the vocal function. If you know you injured your voice, have a proper voice assessment. I don’t know any details about your particular case but we usually say that if you have voice difficulties for more than 2 weeks than visit a voice specialist. For now, skip a few days of working out. If your voice just needs a little bit of rest, you should feel better in a couple of days. If not, have your voice checked.
Ma'am i am suffering from vocal chords nodule . I am teacher and sings songs. Now I am loosing my confidence can't talk properly .can it be reversed? Please help me out in this
I was recently in a car accident. 2 weeks after said accident my voice completely disappeared. I use my voice for work and have had to miss out now on 3 weeks of work. My voice has absolutely improved but it’s still very week. My assumption is it has to do with the accident as it happened shortly after. What do you think?
@@healthyvoicetips I’ve been going to physical therapy who is adjusting my neck and using laser therapy for inflammation and I’ve been to an ENT. I have a follow up with a speech pathologist at the ENT in May and an herbalist this Thursday. For treatment I am currently taking steroids, musical relaxants, acid reflux medication, an immune system builder, ibuprofen, lots of water and no talking what so ever at least for the next 3 days straight. I have to sing this Thursday… My voice is not gone anymore. But very week and horse. After talking for some time it’ll feel like I’m getting choked. What do you think?
I recommend starting voice therapy with the speech language pathologist. Follow your doctor’s recommendations. I wonder who recommended not to use your voice at all for three days?
@@healthyvoicetips everyone’s just telling me to do voice rest. I saw the herbalist today I’ve only been taking her remedies for a few hours, and the difference is outstanding. My voice feels so much stronger. It’s basically just herbs that help with inflammation. She thinks that it’s connected to the car accident and that everything is just super tense and inflamed.
Is there an intervention period where the vocal cords are inflamed when I can exercise vocal rest and humming to prevent vocal damage? For example, if I always intervene when my vocal cords are inflamed will it significantly decrease to likelihood of developing nodules and other permanent damage?
During inflammation, let's say right after vigorous voice use or during an acute infection, it is good to exercise relative rest. But gentle voice use and vocal exercises will not harm your voice either.
I would use exercises to rebalance the vocal mechanism while you are dealing with inflammation (not sure of the cause of inflammation). I would start with strengthening exercises after your voice has healed.
I had a laryngoscopy with vocal cord injections for age related vocal issues. How long do I need to rest my vocal cords before starting singing Excercise? My doctor did not address this. He only said not to talk for a couple days and to go according to how I feel. He didn’t say anything about singing.
The same would apply to singing. But start gently and listen to your voice. If something does not feel right, contact your doctor again and get confirmation from him.
Hello and thank you for the informations I have a vocal process granuloma possibly from reflux. I have a job where I talked too much for hours. The granuloma is small but I can feel it particularly during valsalva. Therefore I feel that resting my voice will minimize the irritation between this granuloma and the adjacent tissue/vocal cords. What do you think Thank you again
Vocal rest is a good thing. I never intended to convey that vocal rest is not good. I was just saying that complete silence may not be the right thing to do.
I have a weird story I had a cold it went away then about a week later got another cold but this time my voice went deep but my voice didn’t hurt or anything but I gathered it was my vocal cords swelling. Is that normal?
Katarina I underwent injection medialization due to idiopathic vocal cord palsy 2 weeks ago. Now I experience on and off diplophonia . I use my voice intermittently these days. Should I do vocal rest or vocal strengthening excercise?
Not often. Most of the time only way to fix them is to have them surgically removed which I know sucks but it’s the truth Only like 40 percent of them go away with rest

What about Vocal cord Nodules ? Absolute or Relative Vocal rest ?
Relative vocal rest but most importantly re-training the voice to work more efficiently with less effort.
I have a nodule in vocal cord.can l do your 3 excercises and silence will prevent a surgery.Madam pls let me know
Yes, gentle vocal exercises in combination with relative vocal rest and decreased vocal effort should help.
Ma'am i am suffering from vocal chords nodule .
I am teacher and sings songs.

Please help me out in this
Vocal nodules are absolutely treatable and they respond well to voice therapy. I highly recommend that you start voice therapy with a local therapist.
@@healthyvoicetips Thank you ma'am
How long does vocal cord nodule take to heal?
How long to take voice rest?
What're your thoughts on the straw exercises?

Yes, accidents can be a factor in your voice problem. Have you seen a laryngologist for a voice assessment?

so how much time is needed for full vocal rest? 1 week, 2 days?
Post-surgery or after vocal hemorrhage, follow the instructions of your doctor. They will know exactly how long you need.
I have a weird story I had a cold it went away then about a week later got another cold but this time my voice went deep but my voice didn’t hurt or anything but I gathered it was my vocal cords swelling. Is that normal?
When we get sick with cold, flu or other infections, it is normal to experience changes on the voice.
How much to speak 7 and 8 weeks after surgery? As I am building up now but still need to rest it a lot as well
This is very individual. Speak to your surgeon or voice therapist. They will be able to give you very specific instructions.
Katarina
I underwent injection medialization due to idiopathic vocal cord palsy 2 weeks ago.
Now I experience on and off diplophonia . I use my voice intermittently these days.
Should I do vocal rest or vocal strengthening excercise?
It's best to talk to your doctor and follow their directions. They know you best and will be able to give you individualized advice.
