    Have owned one for 5 years m, I’ve been in love from day one. Greatest drum machine to have ever been created. It’s limitations are it’s strengths.

    To get around the chord issue, I program the oscillators to make chords and then copy past to several pads, changing the notes. Saves on polyphony.

      I'm planning to do some Tempest drum programs for MPC, although is not the same as the original machine but at least something! Thanks for the comment!

    Such an underrated drum/synth machine. All in one stand alone!

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! People complain about the price, but if you think about Tempest as a 6 voice synth with sequencers and individual outputs for each voice, suddenly the price tag does not seem too steep!

    It's a tragedy to "retire" their only drum machine! Even if just the digital sequencer was updated, it'd be great.

    You can control beat FX from an external sequencer via MIDI CCs, just FYI.

      Yeah I agree! And the internal memory is very small, even for saving custom patches.

  • @ColibrisMusicLive
    @ColibrisMusicLive 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    great video! with all it's cons, i could not find any other machine which can rival the dynamic nature of the Tempest. the ease of assignment of any param to velocity, beat-wide parameters which allows you to 'squeeze' the whole grove into HP or short decay, or to exaggerate sustain of all HH/ SD.
    you can really play like a wild drummer which can open up the whole drumkit with sustain and dynamics

  • @prismblue8514

    I always thought Tempest was a synth hiding behind a drum machine.
    A VERY EXPENSIVE DRUM MACHINE.......

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you think about Tempest as a 6 voice analog poly multitimbral synth with very capable sequencer and seperate audio outputs for each voice the price tag seems kind of acceptable , but then you think about Tempest as a drum machine it just WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! I think they marketed it wrong way.

      Musician Paradise i think it should stay unique like tr808 or 909. Maybe sequential will make an new drummachine but i don't think it'll be in collaboration with Roger Linn. So it would be different and that's the way it should be. Beside, Dave Smith usualy make different synth every time, maybe except for rev2. I'd love to see a simpler drummachine (not a drum synth like Tempest) based on vco and filter of the P6 !

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ I love DSI stuff, but Roger Linn have some know-how about drum machine design. I love the pads on my Tempest more them pads on my MPC Live, and whole Tempest interface is very well conceived, in my opinion. Sound design wise it still more a synth them a drum machine and It take some effort and time to learn how to program drum sounds on it.. Certainly very interesting to see if Dave Smith will come up with his own drum machine design !

    voice engine sounds like clicks & whistles. users have to crank distortion to get anything usable. imagine your synth's key feature is distortion. also, cheapsht dave smith $2k flagship product w/ external wall wart. guess needed the money for tequila.

      Or you could learn to program synths properly. There’s a few videos on TH-cam showing what the Tempest can do alone. If other people can get good results out of the box, but you can’t, the problem isn’t with the box.

      Spoken like someone who has no idea what he's doing. I have a love/hate relationship with the Tempest's for various reasons; but as a synth and percussion sound-design machine, its potential is boundless. Period. What it won't do, however, is hold your hand. Cheers!
