Hey, Hailey. I recently discovered all the book vlogs here on youtube, including yours. I write historical fiction (I'm not published or anything but I'm a good portion done with the first draft of a novel) and I want to say thanks for what you said about how you admire historical novelists for all the extra work and research they have to do. It just felt like I got a giant compliment and hug from a stranger over the internet. :)

I started Fall of Giants a few days ago, soooo intimidating. I started the Luxe like forever and a day ago but I never finished it, I think it's because it wasnt the right time for me to read HF but great recommendations! :)
I read Night in my sophomore English class, it was super good! :)
also if you really like ww2 type things, I suggest watching Life is Beautiful if you havent already. It's in Italian so you'll have to watch it with subtitles(unless you understand it) but it's really good! My teacher had us watch it after reading Night.

I don't know if i consider the story i'm writing a historical fiction, but I do enjoy doing a lot of research on the topic I am writing about haha I still need to read The Book Thief, I don't know why I haven't read it yet. I love WW2 stuff! Have you read Briar Rose? It's a fairytale/historical fiction type book. It's told in the prespective of the granddaughter of a survivor in the Holocaust but between the chapters is the story of sleeping beauty and how that fairytale intertwines with the main story is really interesting!
I'm reading Prisoner of Night and Fog right now and am in love with it! It's such a great read! I think I also wanna film a review when I'm done :D
I'm going through a historical fiction kick at the moment and these recommendations are awesome thank you!

Karleen Koen's Through a Glass Darkly is this historical fiction book that I haven't heard anyone really talk about. Let me know if you've ever picked it up! It might suffer in popularity nowadays because even though its steeped in a certain time period, all of the locations are fictional. I think it's up for a re-read for me; I was like 14 when I read it and can only remember this sense that it was a really great book.

hello, Hailey. I'm new subbie to your channel and I just wanted to tell you that the idea of these videos is so great! I really like historical fiction (being a History major). I do have a little comment about this video, please don't think I'm being rude or anything, it isn't meant to be. The comment would be about the fact, that recommended books do not cover many time periods. I totally get that you like 20th century history, while I like (for fiction at least) 18th- 19th century. Just an observation, don't be upset, I liked the video regardless ^_^
