One of my top ten favourite songs of all time. It's a fucking masterpiece, it really is. The whole album is incredible and then you get this amazing song towering above the rest at the very end of the album. Superb stuff.
this song is woven together so perfectly. Everyone involved in the composition of this tune deserve kudos to the highest degree. EVERY time I hear it I'm reminded how GREAT Ozzy's band was at the time and how we will most likely never hear anything like it ever again. Honestly, nothing after this album held a candle to those first 2 albums. Both of em masterpieces in old school metal. The 2 biggest reasons I still have loads of respect for Ozzy to this day.
I'm sorry then we can't get along! 😔 I'm just joking around but this song so neat to play on guitar their is just one part I can never quite figure out! I like how Randy incorporated the classical guitar in this song along with the electric guitar!! 4:20-4:50
I'm a bass player by trade, but I got ahold of a guitar magazine that had a whole spread on Randy, and a bunch of his riffs, and the transcript for this song. What an awesome song! Learning to play this song on guitar was like taking a little journey in Randy Rhoads' mind. Just an awesome collection of awesome riffs.
@@xadamx94 I had books on both of the first 2 Ozzy solo records, and those bass lines helped form my playing. I've always said Bob Daisley, Steve Harris and Gene Simmons were my early teachers.

This may be my favorite Ozzy song. Erie, mournful vocals, with masterful lyrics by Daisley, and the soulful playing of Randy- it's one of the best heavy metal songs of all time. One section is in 9/5- how crazy is that?
Around 4:12 where it begins the step down to one of the darkest badass riffs in all of rock and roll history into Randy's lead I think is the crowning jewel of all their work.
40 years old today, this album is. This was one of the main introductions of rock/metal in my life. I was around 12 when it was released. I remember looking at the album cover just mesmerized. It was, to this kid, spooky, mysterious and plain awesome. To put things in perspective, Ozzy was, around this time (1981-'82), hugely popular among my middle-school peers. Kids wearing Ozzy shirts in MIDDLE SCHOOL! I dare anyone to find Kida that age to be into metal like that. My kids aren't. Its just different times now. Glad I was there to experience it. I remember hearing on the radio about the plane crash that killed Randy. It was tragic, and still is to this day. DOAM is the zenith of Ozzy's career to me. Theres not a weak track on it and the production is great- many steps above the amazing BOO. The band was firing on all cylinders and it shows on this record. Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake were very important to the success of Ozzy's career at this time, and you can hear how things worked in Daisley's book 'For Fact's Sake'.. Many thanks to this album, it made a difference in my life- and still does.
I find this song perfect. Right from those sombre opening acoustic guitar notes. It's a funereal, evil progression. Absolutely one of my favourite Ozzy songs. Epic close to this historic album. 🤘🦇🤘
Without a doubt this is one of the most complex pieces of modern music and it's as fresh today as when it was released back in the 80's. I never get tire of listening to it.. God bless you all Randy , Ozzy, bob, Lee, Rudy and Tommy. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any good live performances of this song.
Every time the whole "Sanity now is beyond me" part happens, I get a chill that starts at the top of my head and travels right down my body...NO other song has EVER done that to me... weird...the power of music!!!...
This song by Ozzy has it all: melody, darkness, condensed power ... It takes you through the darkest, wettest and coldest embers of the soul and at the end you hit the edge of the mountain of purgatory!
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle What does Randy have to do with this song except his guitar ? Unless I am missing something Daisley and Kerslake were credited on the original. I'm fortunate in that I don't have a depression problem, but the sound of the song is the feeling of not having Randy Rhoads in this world to me. The song is absolutely mind blowing and very sad (for me) at the same time.
4:46 Sounds just like the solos that hair bands used just a few years later. R. R. was way ahead of his time - what would the 80s (and beyond) have been like had he lived?
My first live show. May 20 1982 Hartford. 15 years old and I would love to relive that night. It was only 2 months after Randy died and you could feel the loss that the band was feeling.

Just amazing And Ozzy doesn’t get near enough credit for his vocal Melodie’s They’re both geniuses.. The breakdown at 4:18 is so heavy and beautiful it brings a tear to my eye….
The climax before the solo gets me every time. Not sure what it is. The music itself tells a story. Blizzard and Diary are the two greatest metal albums of all time.
Randy was a musical genius! I f****ng worship this song and have since it’s release! I was about 13 years old when diary came out and I would walk around my neighborhood wearing out the cassette in my “portable stereo” lol. This song has some of the most face melting metal riffs EVER recorded, it’s an absolute masterpiece. The acoustic work/ chord choices are mind numbing, the vibe I get from this song never gets old. Long live Randy Rhoads
Randy Rhoads did a great job on the guitar on this song, magnificent orchestration and Ozzy's vocal performance, along with the great rhythmic base of Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake and Johnny Cook on keyboards.
Listening to Randy Rhoads' guitar work on this song is akin to listening to the greatest classical composers of all time such as Beethoven or Bach as he wove his classically trained style into a metal sound that no other guitarist could ever emulate, in my opinion. His chords and song structure were unlike anything of its kind in metal music at that point in time. While there have been many a talented guitarist after him, there was only one RR! I've loved Ozzy's music ever since he was in Black Sabbath and his first 2 solo albums are two of the finest metal records ever recorded. I'm 54 years old now and every time I listen to either album I'm brought back to my youth of long hair and headbanging. I did read some negative comments in here about Ozzy and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I choose to celebrate this incredible music and not dwell on supposed character flaws that certain individuals may have. Why not just listen to the damn music and just enjoy it for what it is and not delve into the drama of what happened or didn't happen 40 DAMN years ago?! Music in my opinion is meant to be enjoyed, not just pick it apart! Just sayin!
Randy & Ozzy crafted a masterpiece when they wrote this song. This song really showcases how incredibly talented Randy was & how ahead of his time he was. Even the background tracks are amazing he had so much going on & I learned that Diminished chords are awesome when I learned parts of this song. This has always been my favorite Randy song. I was 16 years old, still to this I feel every part can put on headphones and get lost in the music. Thank you ozzy and sharon for something so timeless that at 57 years old I can remember listening to this and feel my youth every time. Love you guys,
Michael Brown
I wish I lived in the 70s and 80s music was so good back then why do I have to live with this overrated mainstream music crap
@@EpicGamer-vn8wc I'm 53. first heard this at 13. I say all the time the best movies and music were in the 70s and 80s. People call bullshit but look them up. The shit today is just trying to redo old stuff.
Sends me back in time.
Absolutely agree, Ozzy was a big part of my teenage years. This song takes me back in time.
THE METAL MASTER PIECE.
Heavy riffs was definitely a metal music 🎶 craft to master 🤘🎸🎧
Truth!
Everything after this was formulaic and calculated IMO.
BoO and DoaM were both so natural, authentic and amazing!
A masterpiece. With Lee Kerslake, Randy, Ozzy and Bob. I love this album.
If you don’t love this song I just can’t imagine us getting along.
This is probably my all time favorite Ozzy song. R.I.P Rhandy
I'm sorry then we can't get along! 😔
I'm just joking around but this song so neat to play on guitar their is just one part I can never quite figure out!
I like how Randy incorporated the classical guitar in this song along with the electric guitar!!
4:20-4:50
I think we would get along just fine😊
HI 😂
Randy's Neoclassical style really shines on this one. R.I.P. Randy.
Randy Was Awesome And Fantastic. RIP RANDY.
all time legend
This was a magical piece of work, lyrically, vocally and musically, and still sounds fresh today. Some songs just refuse to die and fade away.
This is one of the best guitar songs you could find.
Bought this cassette in 82 when it was released. Still kicks Ass in 2024. Ozzy fan forever.
I bet those dimebag articles were for me
really hope you got to learn of bob daisley's amazing bass playing
@@xadamx94 I had books on both of the first 2 Ozzy solo records, and those bass lines helped form my playing. I've always said Bob Daisley, Steve Harris and Gene Simmons were my early teachers.
53 yrs old and have always and still do love Ozzy
51 here, and same!!! Love love LOVE him!!! 🥰🤩😍🤘
Hey 60 years and got black sabbath thing at like 7 or 8 years old
So hopeless anon it is what it is
Dangerous statement but I was a sabbath fan until I got into Floyd and Zeppelin at 24 or 25 the wall and houses of the holy
Still love Ozzy though don't get me wrong just like that sabbath baby still just like that sabbath I'm gone
Me too! 53 and still loving ozzy
Without Randy, there would be no Ozzy!!
@@maxxwick246 😂🤣😆 Wow. Not even remotely true.
2:30 best acoustic guitar riff of all time
This may be my favorite Ozzy song.
Sounds a little bit like Heaven And Hell
One of the greatest rock songs ever thank you Ozzy
Nope this is metal and the greatest rock song is stairway to heaven no other song comes close
After all these years, now it makes bloody sense!!
Some of Randy’s absolute best work right here, just exquisite.
The Greatest classical metal song of All-Time!
definitely in the conversation
Haven't heard this song in so many years that I had forgotten how good it was
Yes, it's still as good as you remembered.
とにかく完璧な仕上がりの壮大な曲です。誰にも真似できない。
Without a doubt this is one of the most complex pieces of modern music and it's as fresh today as when it was released back in the 80's. I never get tire of listening to it.. God bless you all Randy , Ozzy, bob, Lee, Rudy and Tommy. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any good live performances of this song.
2 words...Pure masterpiece
Randy was the magic here......RIP
so obvious this is all Randys composition. He loved early Alice Cooper..especially the song "Ballad of Dwight Frye"...very similar feel to it.
After that build up midway through the song and Randy comes crashing in with that killer riff and then the solo. So good.
Ozzy Is Truly A Legendary Figure In The Heavy Metal Biz. Such A Killer Performer. Love Ozzy. May He Live With All Of Us In Song...Forever!!!
what does he have to do with this song except his voice? thank the genius songwriters.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle What does Randy have to do with this song except his guitar ? Unless I am missing something Daisley and Kerslake were credited on the original. The 2002 remaster removed that credit (which was wrong)Your comment makes it seem like you think Jimi Hendrix had nothing to do with All Along The Watchtower because it was written by Bob Dylan.
I was there , and grew up with crazy world of Arthur Brown and Ozzy Osbourne.... believe me I seen things that most people will never , but I have also seen the light.
An album for history, an immortal guitarist RANDY RHOADS, a living legend OZZY, since I listened this in 1981, I understand why rock exist! This is THE ALBUM! Long live Ozzy, long live You all!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
this is album is a masterpiece
When this album cane out in late 81 Ozzy was in the battle of his life with addiction; Which went from 2 to 10 when Randy died a few months later in a plane crash. To see now many many yrs later that he was able to pull himself out of the depths of hell is something to celebrate. Coming from a recovering addict. This album is a masterpiece which i wouldn’t even have in my hands till 86, seeing iwas 6 when it came out. Long live Ozzy, the prince of Darkness !
I'm 70 and I'm still rocking to this in 2024.
I'm 66 and I'm still headbanging to Ozzy forever ! God Bless ya
🤘🏼
56 today 😎
Dude..its got nothing to do with *_your_* age; its timeless, like mozart...just WAAAAAY more crunchy!
And mozart would love it as such too!
🎉 right on rock and roll 👊
that interlude - so haunting, dreamy, and beautiful. Love you Randy!
This is one of THE best albums. Its definitely Ozzy and Randys best. Wonder how far Randy could have taken it...our utter loss.
Just a taste of the brimstone and not the full fire.
The world was not ready for the cup to be filled.

Hope to hear him on the otherside...
So many good comments, yet no one talks about the depression and problems the person is facing. This song is a masterpiece yet the lyrics are beyond that. The music is unique to Randy and Ozzy and those that work on this beautiful song.. 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵
Plus the person that is listening for the first time n what they r going thru
, absolutely well played
I'm fortunate in that I don't have a depression problem, but the sound of the song is the feeling of not having Randy Rhoads in this world to me. The song is absolutely mind blowing and very sad (for me) at the same time.
It befriends me
4:46 Sounds just like the solos that hair bands used just a few years later. R. R. was way ahead of his time - what would the 80s (and beyond) have been like had he lived?
My first live show. May 20 1982 Hartford. 15 years old and I would love to relive that night. It was only 2 months after Randy died and you could feel the loss that the band was feeling.
This is one of the greatest albums ever
Listening to this gives me the same goosebumps when I first heard it at age 6. 40 years later, still gives me goosebumps. RIP Randy, you were taken too soon.
Just amazing
And Ozzy doesn’t get near enough credit for his vocal Melodie’s
They’re both geniuses..
The breakdown at 4:18 is so heavy and beautiful it brings a tear to my eye….
Actually starts around 4:14
The sounds, the lyrics, the timing, was perfect for me to embrace and it is timeless because it is raw and true.
One of the best songs ever. It’s goes so many places. RR was a genius, pure and simple.
The guitar part at 2:30 is insane like it takes me away absolutely no words !! \m/
0:01 The best first few seconds in metal ever.
Playing this intro on an acoustic is the best thing ever. Still gives me chills after years. Thanks Randy❤
The climax before the solo gets me every time. Not sure what it is. The music itself tells a story. Blizzard and Diary are the two greatest metal albums of all time.
This is an absolute masterpiece. God bless you Ozzy. Miss you still Randy
LONG LIVE OZZY OSBOURNE!! RANDY RHOADS FOREVER!!
4:40 still makes me feel this song, to my very core! 2024 this is the shit!
One of the best songs in Metal history
Randy Rhoads did a great job on the guitar on this song, magnificent orchestration and Ozzy's vocal performance, along with the great rhythmic base of Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake and Johnny Cook on keyboards.
Love you Ozzy and god bless Randy
This song is partly my life. It's frantic, it's raw, it's heartbreaking. It's truth, It's life. Love you, Ozzy.
This is my favorite Ozzy song from my favorite Ozzy album. The whole song gives me chills especially the ending.
This isn't Ozzy's music, this is Randy Rhoads music
This by far is one of my top ten Ozzy songs !
Just sayin!
Timeless this song is so well produced. Randy Rhodes R.I.P.
Can you imagine Randy Rhodes and Cliff Burton in the same band? The masterpieces they would write!
Randy Rhoads did just fine writing songs with Bob Daisley.
Bonham on drums, Dio on vocals with Chris Cornell
Rhoads
@@mikeking3507 Dio + Rhoads in the same band would have made the universe collapse in on itself. Too much talent.
@@mikeking3507chris cornell? Hahaha
There's so much going on in this song. The key change, the syncopation.. This is a very well-constructed piece of music.
Ozzy's best album
Randy & Ozzy crafted a masterpiece when they wrote this song. This song really showcases how incredibly talented Randy was & how ahead of his time he was. Even the background tracks are amazing he had so much going on & I learned that Diminished chords are awesome when I learned parts of this song. This has always been my favorite Randy song. Just amazing & incredible today as it was the day it was released.
Ozzy wrote nothing on this masterpiece,, he has never written a lyric besides pieces of suicide solution ,, Sharon just gives him all the credit
*Randy, Bob and Lee crafted a masterpiece. Lee did the melody line . Ozzy sang on this song that's about it.
This is such a beautiful song
The best song in Ozzy’s catalog. Nothing even come close to this. It is brilliantly composed. Lyrically perfect for Ozzy. It is a masterwork.
The whole composition is gold. The sense of madness begins from the first note and ends with the last one.
