It's actually really flattering to hear the lengths Gu Tingye will go to just so he can marry her. It's the complete opposite to how Qi Heng made her all these promises only to discard her at a moment's notice.
He is willing to go to war to have her..... and not have her but to have her in his life to support him., because he knows that she is a partner who , and i searched for the word, is his equal. Trust is only given where received, and here I sound that humans are only dealers and not crusaders, lovers and opportunists..... There is supposedly no one who is solely one, to the exclusion of the other three. I find these drama to be complex and interesting.

I loved how Xiaotao was repeating the information to young lord Qi like he had personally offended her. I guess, he kinda did, since her mistress was the one who was offended. And she does really care for Minglan.

even tho i understood QH's dilemma, GTY was correct when he said that QH was the first one to give her up (6:13). see how he didn't have a response to the comment? the whole time during their courtship (if you can even call it that), SML told him, repeatedly, that if he didn't give up on her, she wouldn't give up on him. GTY even volunteered to help him when he was being pressured to marry that princess. he refused GTY's help. I've rewatched this series so many times and each time, i end up disliking him more and more. the thing that ticks me off the most was the fact that he acts so self-righteously without any regard for the consequences of his actions (which GTY also pointed out in this scene). QH pursued SML without any regard for her reputation (11:25 xiaotao's rant). and then he just tossed her aside without any regard for her reputation AGAIN. Because of his reputation and his standing, everything came easily to him. The fact that he buckled under the same reputation and standing shows that he wasn't the right man for her. Because at the end of the day, she's a concubine's daughter and her father was only a low-ranking official. that's the first and foremost obstacle that they would have had to get over. But he never understood this because he was blinded by his own status. GTY also brought up a good point: he could've proposed right after his wife's death. but no, he had to pass the exam first. like GTY said, if he didn't pass, was she supposed to keep waiting for him? although all said and done, i do appreciate his character's storyline and growth.

She gave her heart to Qi Heng for the first time let herself trust someone other than her grandma and he failed her. She never really thought about going back
He couldn't do the one thing she needed him to do which was to fight for her. GTY gave him an out. He was willing to risk his own life to help him but he was too scared.
His mother is wrong he didn’t settle with Minglan , he only ever wanted to marry her, he wanted to marry her for a long time and made it his life’s mission. He fell in love with her and wanted to marry and protect her for life and went to tremendous lengths to do so. They are the perfect match.

Generation like on the family tree, not that gty is much older than him. GTY is higher in the family tree where they are related so he is technically his uncle. The Sheng kids call him uncle, other than changbai, bc Molan saw that QH called him that and she wanted to be on the same generational level as QH. If they didn’t call him uncle, then technically the Shengs would be a generation above QH. Molan wanted to marry QH and it would make it harder if the Sheng girls spoke “informally” to GTY if QH could not. Just a generational / society rule thing.
