High praise indeed but not inaccurate. However it's very difficult to pin down quite why. Questing, turbulent, tender, rhapsodic, almost monotonous - but always ravishing - the remarkable and very serious players bring out all these qualities.
What a combination! Two of the best musicians ever playing together! I've seen and heard them live in Munich....unforgettable. Both had been sick and both played like gods....
The superb craft of these two artists reveals this much derided sonata as a wonderful creation. It is not always the case that top flight solo pianists are also excellent duo partners. However Yuja is very special and her contribution in chamber music is equal to her sensational pyrotechnics in the great Russian concertos. Her contribution to this performance is a case in point.

GET SOMEONE ELSE haha :P Yuja is one of the world's best pianists today and you'd expect for someone to have organised a more than decent page turner for her. Good thing the guy is not one of the assistants in a doctor's surgery that hands over important tools in a life or death situation....

For all the shameless appeals to her sexuality she plays this without any real passion. The deficiencies of this piece can be disguised if the performers are genuinely committed. Luckily for youtubers the Kramer/Agerich performance is just a click away.

There is some magical moments in this sonata. Both his violin sonatas are truly miracles imo.

Waooh. They really get a style ot their own as a duo! Rare. I did not have this feeling since I heard Kremer-Argerich some 40 years back.

The pianist seems to go her way. Kavakos indulges in slowing down phrases too much
Not always the same rythm between piano and violin. The best ever is WANDA LUZZATO vl and ANTONIO BELTRAMI pf in 1962 ( RHINE CLASSICS box).
