    Don’t offer free returns if you sell new clothing and new premium shoes, I turned it on and my returns increased five fold, main reason: I tried it on and decided didn’t want it after all. Since
    they want to shop from home they’ll order your items and try them on and return them for any reason. I turned off free returns shortly after that COSTLY MISTAKE. I am serious people don’t offer free returns on expensive clothing

    I sell vintage clothing...mostly semi-formal dresses. My concern with free returns is that customers will order the dress for a special event and return it after wearing it for one night. Or just order on a whim and return when they don't like fit. I already get so many questions like "I need this dress for a party in two days, can you guarantee that I'll get it by then?" or "I know the listing says the dress is an XS but I'm a size L, do you think it will fit me?" I worried that the free returns will encourage them to order without even asking these questions because they know they can send it back without any hassle. Companies like Amazon have made things a lot more difficult for small sellers who can't afford to operate like a lending library.

    If a buyer opens a case and claims that it's not as described, defective or damaged, eBay will ALWAYS 100% side with the buyer no matter what the facts are in the case and force you to take it back. For example, I had a buyer open a case using the reason was that the product was damaged. Yet he made no mention of it being damaged in the comments he included when opening the case but did say that the expiration date on it was July, 2020 which was shown in the item specifics of the listing (he made this claim in May, 2020 when he opened the case so it wasn't expired when he received it). He also included a photo of the bottle which was in perfect condition to show the date on the bottom. Yet eBay ignored all of the facts of the case and sided with the buyer and said that they have to go by what reason they give when they open the case and they don't know what is in the buyer's head. So I end up wasting $10 on shipping both ways and get a defect. I appealed it and won, but it wasted a lot of my time.
    eBay's system is horrible in that when the buyer asks eBay to step in, you can no longer resolve it yourself and again, eBay ALWAYS rules in favor of the buyer. So you may say why don't you just take it back or issue a refund? I always accept responsibility and take it back or issue a refund if it's my fault or not as described. Otherwise I address their concern or complaint and point out that they got EXACTLY what they ordered and they keep the item but don't close the case out. So I have no idea whether or not they are going to ask eBay to step in and I'm left hanging for a month until it automatically closes out. So I would be out a lot of money in refunds as many items that I sell cost more to pay to ship back to me than it would be worth to get back and re-sell and pay for the shipping again.
    eBay now thinks that they are Amazon and people now think its their right to change their mind and return any item for any reason and expect the seller to pay shipping both ways. eBay always says that I can report the buyer but most sellers don't take the time to do so. So ultimately eBay is much more interested in keeping an unethical buyer who maybe just joined a week ago, then look at the facts of a case and side with a seller who's been on there since 1999 and has the facts on their side.
    If you have eBay's ear, you should tell them that they should allow a seller to resolve the case their self within 24 hours of the buyer asking eBay to step in. If I know that I'm going to have to eat it anyway (after the buyer continues to pursue it) I will do so but I don't want to have to appeal their decisions all the time.

    I switched to free shipping, free returns and my sales doubled. I also stopped thinking about a return adding to my cost of the individual item because it frustrated me. Instead I just budget a set amount per month to cover return postage and relist. As you say I sell so much by offering returns that the returns are really negligible. I also do one day shipping so the discount covers much of the monthly return postage.

It was a NWT $11 polyester scarf, she said the quality wasn't what she expected so she changed her mind. She paid $4.50 shipping both ways. Sometimes human beings confuse me! lol She paid almost as much in shipping as she had into the item. My RR bag and I are heading out to my local habitat restore today for a $1 clothes sale! :)

    Nice video, I used to not do returns and still had good numbers I only turned them on cause of too much bs from certain buyers and them just opening a case anyways even when they just changed their mind about a item. Honestly my numbers didn’t change much when turning on returns but least I don’t get burned on paying shipping twice and dealing with people opening cases. There is absolutely no protection for sellers, buyers will always win so might as well try to lower my loses

    It’s so weird because I do NO returns and I do just fine. I’ve literally had in the 7 months of reselling maybe 4 returns tops. I have no returns on my items , but when people reach out to me about the item and something is wrong with the item or the item is Not as described, I do return the item. Also my business isn’t as big as your All’s business either. Idk yeah you all are VERY successful and it’s seems to work for you but also this seems to work for me as a reseller. BUT.... I’m going to set my items as free returns for maybe a month or two to test it out and see if that really helps sales. Always good to try and do trial and error for your own business. I feel this works for you all because your business is HUGE compared to my 500 listing store . Your probably right and I guess we’ll see when we try it out. Anyways keep up the content. Love it !

Most new items seem to work better with free shipping and Free returns . Most likely depending on the item of course I will include the shipping cost into the price of the item and do free shipping for sure from here on out. As far as Used resellable items depending on the condition of the item will determine if I do free returns or not. Any retail arbitrage items that are New will always get free ship and free returns from here on out for sure.

    This year has been horrible for returns. There are so many people out there abusing returns. I just had a person complain that they was a crinkle in the cellophane of a video game. Not only did eBay refund them they didn't make them send the product back to me. It's getting bad. I just had another return where I sold a rare game case and manual to a customer who said that the game wasn't in said case. That they did not recall seeing it in the description. Folks, that was the description game manual in case only no game in parentheses. It's fatiguing and it's getting worse!

    "It's not worth fighting" when you sell on hundreds of thousands of dollars! When it's a small seller where every $10/$20 counts it's a big deal! ebay doesn't back up sellers at all! I am mostly selling used pre-owned clothing. Having 30 days return policy on pre-owned items is like saying "You can rent an item, wear it, use it, abuse it and I'll return it for full refund". Like visit real companies like JohnnyWas! When they do a markdown on an item, it automatically becomes "FINAL SALE" you buy it and that's it! They don't care if it doesn't fit or not! You are stuck with it and they are in business and doing very well! Why mega million companies have "FINAL SALE" and no returns and still do great and ebay forces returns on small sellers! Imagine if you had 28 returns instead of 7, I bet then you'd be fighting them and you would not be saying "it's ok".....

    JpFlips: I dont currently offer returns but I will now. The only thing I'm afraid of is, what if you sell something new Factory Sealed. And the buyer opens and it doesnt work. For ex: i sold a sealed perfume but the sprayer was defective. So I was down $70.

    • @user-dv2mc6vd9e
      @user-dv2mc6vd9e 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Factory Sealed items can be defective. The item could easily be used and then reshrinkwrapped. Or an item with a rubber part could melt from being stored in too hot of an environment, all while still being factory sealed. If you're not sure, break the factory seal, test the item, then sell as open-box. Or sell as "new, sealed" but be willing to accept returns on it.

    I'm getting way too many returns that are just sheer buyers remorse, buyers claiming the product is defective when it's not which affects my seller rating. I don't offer returns at all especially with the pandemic. Ebay forces me to take the return, therefore I've moved to other platforms that don't have such a huge return window and decreased my listings significantly especially now with Ebay's split with PayPal and implementation of managed payments.

    Beware! A benefit of free return shipping is ebay will remove negative feedbacks after the item is returned. Over the past 2 years we received 3 negative feedbacks due to the item not fitting. Nasty remarks were made by the buyers. None of them even opened a return. We sent messages to all of them asking them to return the item for a full refund. These were simple "does not fit" issues. Ebay refused to remove any of them because the item was not returned. The negatives stayed with us for a year until dropping off. These were the only negs (3) we ever received out of over 20k items sold, all within a short window of time and all for the same reason.

    I hate eBay returns. One time the buyer started the return, but never uploaded the return tracking, I never received the item, never heard from the buyer. Two months later eBay wanted me to refund the buyer. I replied and explained that the buyer never shipped it back. Then eBay said buyer provided tracking info to them, there was an attempt to deliver the item, notice was left which I never received and never picked it up from the post office. It was sent back to the sender. So I had to pay two-way shipping (almost $40, it was a laptop) and I refunded $75 to the buyer and I didn't even get my item back. I lost more than $100 and eBay did nothing to help me.

    I think accepting returns on clothes and footwear is a smart business move. Not all brands fit the same. I sell used auto parts so most of my stuff I don't accept returns. I used to but for some reason in that area of eBay. People like to open a claim of broken item. Then send you back there old broken part. I only accept returns on electric parts I can't test. I've learned to sell most stuff that is mechanical. Now if the item arrives physical broken from shipping I'll do a straight refund and recover my loss from USPS. I think each return policy you have should be based off what category your selling in. Like I said in used parts if it was all free returns I'd get nothing but people's old junk back and trust me it's hell proving to eBay it's not what you sent. One more thing! always check your PayPal for people trying to get a refund. I noticed people who are looking to work the system will skip around eBay and go straight to PayPal and request a refund. Most times you won't know unless your always checking your account. Because the person knows if you don't respond back to the PayPal claim after so many days PayPal will approve the refund. Most times you didn't even know the request was open.

      fair enough, just keep in mind again a buyer can still open a return even if you have no returns on and sales factually increase if you have a return policy in place so there really is no reason to have them off entirely. We don't offer free returns when we sell auto parts but we do have buyer paid returns on. Hopefully the paypal issues will stop once all sellers have switched to managed payments.

      @@greengiant311 yeah, guys almost never return shoes. I think guys know what they like and what they're getting. Also, they care less about fit and know their size. Ladies, however, are the opposite. Before I stopped selling ladies shoes, it was my highest return category by far. 1 out of 5 would be returned.

    Ryan, for free returns I understand you provide a prepaid return shipping label to the buyer. When you do the actual refund, do you refund only the item cost? Or do you refund the item cost as well as the original shipping cost? (So for clarification, do you also refund the cost of the label that the buyer paid to send the item to you?)

    eBay told me today item not as described does not hurt my account as long as eBay doesn’t have to resolve the issue. So if I accepted the return I am fine. I was concerned because you said it does hurt. Can you clarify that?.

      @RALLIROOTS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if you have no returns on and a buyer opens up a case as not as described, but yes, only if the case is closed with ebay having to step in.

    Poshmark returns are ludicrous! They allow returns for smell. A buyer didn’t like the smell of my laundry detergent and Poshmark allowed them to return it to me. I blasted them over that with both barrels, but they wouldn’t budge. When I got the return come to find out, she had switched out the shams on my set with used ones of hers. I reported that to Poshmark so they did eventually refund my money

    I did have no returns on, then last week I had a buyer open a return request stating the Dansko shoes I sent were unauthentic. I have sold hundreds of danskos and NEVER found any that remotely look fake. I also had the exact shoe pulled up on Amazon with the style number and pictures ext.. when I tried to deny the request I found that I had NO choice but to Accept the return.
    After Reluctantly accepting I them found out that due to COVID the customer now has Almost an entire Month to return the item to me. Its been 15 days and she still hasn't sent the shoes out.
    I wouldn't care accept I lost $20 in shipping AND my account has come to a slow crawl since the return request was opened. I know its hurting my account and there is nothing I can do about it.
    Any Advise? P.S I have since turned back on buyer pays returns.

    Thats kinda true... I have been on mercari since late 2018 and ive had absolutely no returns. Sounds great however sales are extremely slower than ebay or amazon. As far as free shipping, if a person has a great rating as such as the free returns seller, it doesnt matter to me. Ratings over anything to me. However if i am buying a playstation/xbox or something mainstream and the person has good ratings but its over 200.00 or 500.00 heck yeah, my mental state period feels better when i am assured anything goes south the seller will back me but note if a seller has a " great report card " ( thats what i call ratings & reviews ) they dont want to ruin that so they will usually want you to contact them to work it out. They are not trying to avoid amazon or ebay there integrity want you to contact them first to help you out so sometimes guys its more so ratings & reviews out weigh free returns. I know ppl who buy a lot online and either or they all say they are ratings snobs like if a person has even under a 95% rating they will not purchase from that seller free returns or not. Im glad actually extremely glad you did this vid. Soooo many ppl do unboxing videos, what sold, etc but i want a lets see what got returned today video. Such as this one. Its one of my hicups from selling on ebay & amazon and if i see more videos like this truthfully addressing returns & how many i could become more aware & wrap my brain about returns and it would maybe in the end if i did start on ebay/amazon come to realize returns arent as bad as the gains makes returns ok or do'able because profit can sooth or balm A LOT of things. They say money doesnt bring one happiness & i concur but it brings you a lot of peace of mind or really close to happiness. Thanks again roots. Another great job guys.
