Launched last week, the DeepSeek app was reportedly developed at a fraction of the cost of its rivals - just $5.6 million.
And it's already overtaken rivals like OpenAI's ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app in the US and UK.

the US companies have spent hundreds of billions on nvidia data centres. With the hope that they will be able to charge enough for their AI services that they can pay off the investment costs. But if it turns out you can run AI of similar quality on much cheaper servers then no one is going to pay the super high prices that are needed to pay off the investment, when they could use another AI that can charge way less because they don't have to pay off billions of debt. This could cripple the big US AI players. Their hopes of charging enough to pay off their debts were always optimistic. Given the vast mountains of money they poured in. But now. heck
