A conversation between Sofia Burtak and Iryna Volovyk - coop developers and members of Coop Academy from Ukraine - and Sara Vicari member of Aroundtheworld.coop.
Thank you for sharing this story. Thank goodness for cooperative principles and values. The world is in a precarious place because those in power who are involved in this and other conflicts (Yemen for example), whether directly or indirectly, lack these values. The cooperative movement stands in solidarity with all those affected by these atrocities. Together we are stronger.
when our world goes in the right direction, when humans grow wiser, it’s because of people like you. You are great humans, great cooperators. My words are not much comparing to your challenges, but stay as safe as possible and keep the human spirit at the center of our life. Thanks to Sara for this video. Gloire à l’Ukraine!
Sofia, Irynia, thank you so much for sharing your reality, your thoughts. In history, when our world goes in the right direction, when humans grow wiser, it’s because of people like you. You are great humans, great cooperators. My words are not much comparing to your challenges, but stay as safe as possible and keep the human spirit at the center of our life. Thanks to Sara for this video. Gloire à l’Ukraine!
Will it work to make a EU coop to rebuild Ukraine by helping organize the market and perhaps make it easier for the resources needed can more easily get there? The logistical problems of getting this done without some kind of framework to help things along will be tremendous.
Some of us have families in Ukraine, we know the terrible stories but there is no-one else but you talking about the co-ops in Ukraine. 'How does Ukraine survive a war co-operatively?' is today's co-operative question I think? Can you start to answer this? There can never be a repetition of the holodomyr holocaust in Ukraine ever again as long as co-operatives are free. You must see how your roles are so important and how you need to engage with all co-ops around the world right now. Keep shouting. Sofia you mentioned help is needed in terms of turning the milk into products that last longer, so you mean cheese, kefir and smetana etc. How can those co-operatives be supported in this? We have UK co-ops who want to help but it's mostly about sending cash to Disaster Emergency Coalitions, Red Cross and other charities etc. It bypasses co-ops! Could you be very specific how the co-op movement in the UK can support the co-op movement in Ukraine. Is it via cash or is it buying your products or something else? UK co-op expertise is in retail, housing, renewable energy, solar power etc. When it's time to rebuild Ukraine, people need to be aware how they (not the state) can create co-ops like these for themselves. Your work is much needed! We are with you all. Tell us all in the co-op movement how it needs to help and repeat, repeat, repeat. Thank you.
