Called my Stihl dealer who had not ever heard of this recall. They contacted Stihl and was told that this recall was only for saws purchased in the US. Looks like we have different information supplied by Stihl. Maybe at the time lots of areas of the US could not obtain ethanol free fuel but was readily available in Canada. Of course that has changed recently.
Thanks Steve, mine was leaking, a lot . I tried a few different off the shelf o rings trying to solve the problem. I finally found that because its a bad design, it needed two o rings, not stacked but one inside the diameter of the other. Cheers from Colorado.
I own 13 pieces of Stihl equipment. Fortunately, most have the conventional screw cap. Some years ago one of the recall-style caps failed on one of my chainsaws. I replaced it with a cheap knockoff, no doubt because I could get three for the price of one Stihl cap. That knockoff has worked flawlessly for at least 15 years, and I have yet to need any of the others.
Back 10 years ago I had a Stihl weed trimmer and I started to have trouble getting the cap to go back on properly. I went to the Stihl dealer to get a new cap. The dealer told me there was a recall and just gave me the new style cap.
Thanks Steve for the update. Not an issue for me all my stuff has a screw on screw off filler cap , its not really difficult!!! A word to Sthil STOP effin with stuff that aint broke!!
Thanks for the info Steve! Been a while! Since I've been here! And I know this is just a gas cap! But to me recalls should be this way! Even on cars! I don't care if a car is 30 years old a recall shouldn't expire if you still own it and you missed it the first time, or whatever! They should fix it! But that's not the way the world works! Have a great weekend!
Hey I appreciate your channel, especially your lawn mowing one because I started a lawn mowing company my own just around my neighborhood and all your videos have helped to make my equipment better so thank you very much.👍🏽🙏🏽
STEVE, thanks for the video and appreciate you always helping the consumer! You definitely helped me with A LOT of tips in getting my stuff working properly!
Thanks Steve....I did not know about the STIHL recall on these caps. I have two to take into CASCADE INDUSTRIAL here in Chilliwack for replacement. Much appreciated.
Thank You as Always Steve. I have a Weedwacker, 2Chainsaws that I am going to Check out. If it's got a D I am going to get a few new caps. If not then the E's will stay. Already had to replace the MS-271 FARM BOSS CAP. Cost me $4.95 plus tax. Nothing about the recall mentioned to me. This is good for myself as This Dealer is somewhat a Little Shady. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
Thanks Steve - I'm wondering if the fuel cap issue hasn't been an issue for a lot of guys because they typically avoid putting gas with ethanol in their chainsaws. I always heard we should be using straight-up, ethanol-free gas in our small engines. Is that right?
It's only a problem if the equipment will be stored for long periods - such as snow blowers that are stored over the summer. or lawn mowers stored over the winter. The alternate in those situations is just to completely empty the equipment of fuel.
I just changed mine from the HT130 pole trimmer 2011 notice, the cap worked fine until last week, when it didn't. I had the recall notice in my file since 2011 !!! I didn't see any D or E on my cap. I just took a picture of the model and serial number, got a replacement
Thanks a ton, Steve! I'm assuming that this recall will cover these tool less caps on these saw's oilers too? My 260XL saw's oil cap has always leaked a little. The saw gets very little use, so all I've done is to make sure to empty the bar oil out before I store the saw.
Hell I must be out of touch with the times......Im still gluing my old two piece caps......haha. Good info man, thanks. I think my one top handle has the flip cap. Ill have to head down and check.
I don't own a Stihl, but it's still nice to know. Where I live it's often alkylate gasoline that's used for small engines for environmental reasons. But electrical is coming more and more now.
Question; is this new style cap compatible with the old threaded tape? I have a newer Chinese knock off that came complete with the pre-stripped threaded cap and I need to replace it. Well one of these new caps do the trick?
GREAT video! Thank You for making this video and for the information in it. i shared this video on my facebook because i have some friends and people i know that have stihls with this cap in them. :)
I haven't checked my saw or string trimmer but every time I get them out the fuel caps spray me when opening because of built up pressure, so I guess they are ok because they hold in pressure until I lift and turn.
Does not seem to be a recall for the caps in Australia on the Stihl site or ACCC . I just checked my gear , the chainsaws already have E caps and the brushcutter is a different newer style of cap altogether.
I always use pure gas in my Stihl chainsaw so it doesn't go bad over the Winter. So my cap won't go bad but I will get it fixed. Thanks. Just checked, ours is E.
I just called Stihl Canada. Although the serial # for my KM110R is listed on the recall, they say that it does not affect Canadian machines as our ethanol content is less than that of the U.S.A. Any comments about this?
My first chainsaw was a poulan , I had for a while then it started vacuum lock on in the middle of cutting, took it to a shop to fix the problem, it run good, next morning, went to use it again gas leaked out thru the drill hole, went and bought a new cap still the same thing again vapor lock or vacuum lock after it gets warmed up it's a good saw light weight.
Found out about this recall 7 or 8 years ago when I was investigating issues I had with the cap on my Stihl backpack blower. I think the gaskets in the caps were swelling up, perhaps due to the ethanol in US gasoline.
Great video bud, I have a question about rec fuel or ethanol free fuel, I been using it for years now and wanted to know how long it last setting in gas cans, I was told it last a year, what are your thoughts thanks.

The place I brought my two defective caps to has told me it doesn't cover chain saws. Is that true?
I have an older Stihl chainsaw and the cap is almost impossible to lock shut. It has a D6 stamped in it!
Steve, love how you always get straight to the point, no waffle. Here in Kiwiland we don't put ethanol in our 'gas', we call it petrol ;)
Yeah, it’s still your cans of beer!
Man alive that stuff is strong.
NSW
I had no idea about the recall !!!! So thanks as always Steve !!!!
Glad to help
This video is NOT a dud, it IS excellent!
LOL! Right on buddy...

Thanks Steve I'll be bringing mine into my Stihl dealer tomorrow.
Thanks Steve, mine was leaking, a lot . I tried a few different off the shelf o rings trying to solve the problem. I finally found that because its a bad design, it needed two o rings, not stacked but one inside the diameter of the other. Cheers from Colorado.
Ethanol or non Ethanol fuel?
Thanks I have three of these!and they all leak. Great job you do!

Right on
Any Stihl dealer will replace the D cap for free. Take your machine to any Stihl dealer.
Back 10 years ago I had a Stihl weed trimmer and I started to have trouble getting the cap to go back on properly. I went to the Stihl dealer to get a new cap. The dealer told me there was a recall and just gave me the new style cap.
Thank you for sharing this. Pitiful that Stihl hasn’t done it. I will check all of mine.
Thanks Steve for the update. Not an issue for me all my stuff has a screw on screw off filler cap , its not really difficult!!! A word to Sthil STOP effin with stuff that aint broke!!
Right on
Thanks again Steve. I have just been having another problem with my cap. And was afraid it was more than a one beer problem!
Thanks for the info Steve! Been a while! Since I've been here! And I know this is just a gas cap! But to me recalls should be this way! Even on cars! Hey I appreciate your channel, especially your lawn mowing one because I started a lawn mowing company my own just around my neighborhood and all your videos have helped to make my equipment better so thank you very much.👍🏽🙏🏽
That is awesome!
Thanks again Steve, I totally missed that recall notice.
Wow, recalled since 2011! Did Stihl make an effort to contact us owners? Thanks Steve, I'm taking mine in.
They need the serial number. Awesome. Hopefully someone takes in my 661 that was stolen, as the saw is reported, maybe I can get my saw back.
Thanks for the advice! Another reason to not use gas with ethanol in it!
Speaks volumes of their quality control, hi from downunder 🇦🇺👌
Thanks for the update !
Any time!
good to know, my shop has about 30 different pieces of Stihl equipment, and I am sure some of those are older than this recall.
Thanks Steve. Good info. Got a couple here I'll be swapping out.
Thanks a million Steve, we have a bunch of Stihl equipment to check, great vid, thanks again
You're Welcome...
And here I was thinking Stihl recalled it a day after you put your video out.
Thanks for the update.
Nice, thanks for having our backs!
Our pleasure!
Going down to the garage right now to check it. Thanks.
I think I have those caps. Thanks Steve!
STEVE, thanks for the video and appreciate you always helping the consumer! You definitely helped me with A LOT of tips in getting my stuff working properly!

An EXCELLENT video; I don't have any Stihl products, but if I ever did pick one up second-hand, I'll look at the cap.

Thanks Steve....I did not know about the STIHL recall on these caps. I have two to take into CASCADE INDUSTRIAL here in Chilliwack for replacement. Much appreciated.
Great info Steve & I would call that a very long term recall!

Thank You as Always Steve. I have a Weedwacker, 2Chainsaws that I am going to Check out. If it's got a D I am going to get a few new caps. If not then the E's will stay. In Canada, they have banned Premium Fuel without Ethanol. A/holse
Thanks, Steve!
You're Welcome...
Thank you. I’m going to check my arsenal today.
I just changed mine from the HT130 pole trimmer 2011 notice, the cap worked fine until last week, when it didn't. I had the recall notice in my file since 2011 !!! I didn't see any D or E on my cap. I just took a picture of the model and serial number, got a replacement
Thanks for the information! Great episode! I’ve always hated those caps.
You and me both!
I'll be testing out this recall when I take in my 1992 FS74.
Thanks a ton, Steve! I'm assuming that this recall will cover these tool less caps on these saw's oilers too? My 260XL saw's oil cap has always leaked a little. The saw gets very little use, so all I've done is to make sure to empty the bar oil out before I store the saw.
Thanks brother !!!!!! 😊🙏👍❤️
Awesome video God Bless you and your family Amen
I always hated those caps! That's why I bought a Husqvarna Rancher instead. Good old screw caps.
Must have been the bosses son who designed that cap.
Steve, always saving us money 👍🙏
Thanks for the info. I work on a lot of Stihl machines for my neighbor that have that cap. I'll let him know.
Right on
Thanks a million 😊Steve, have a great day!
You are a fountain of incredible information
Thanks Steve!!! As always GREAT INFO!!!
Hell I must be out of touch with the times......Im still gluing my old two piece caps......haha.

Once again, great info. Thanks Steve.
I don't own a Stihl, but it's still nice to know.

👍Good stuff Sir Steve. Blessings to ya!

Does not seem to be a recall for the caps in Australia on the Stihl site or ACCC . I just checked my gear , the chainsaws already have E caps and the brushcutter is a different newer style of cap altogether.
Pray tell- is this a Worldwide recall?
Be good to know.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I’ve a bunch of Stihl 2 stroke s5uff.
Thx. Glad you did this video.
What’s your opinion on older shindaiwa products? I have a t230 seems like a great machine.
Thank you Steve 👍🏻
Welcome!
Cheers to you and thank you for the video
Does this apply to other countries too Steve. 🇬🇧
Hi from Australia, really enjoy your channel. Do you know if the recall only for the US or worldwide. Cheers, drinking a Carlton Draught
Keep up the great vid's, Mucho Thanko Amago
Thanks, will do!

Cool Steve Thanks for the info 👍
Any time!
I broke one about 10 days ago and was sold a replacement! 😂 by a dealer. Timing and knowledge is everything they say. Now I know.
Found out about this recall 7 or 8 years ago when I was investigating issues I had with the cap on my Stihl backpack blower. I think the gaskets in the caps were swelling up, perhaps due to the ethanol in US gasoline.
He is in Canadia. The company and the products are global.
@@Failure_Is_An_Option
But ethanol in gas is NOT universal...some countries are smart like that....
Thanks Steve
