    I know this video is a couple of years old, but as a beginner/aspiring videographer, the video was so comfortable for me to digest and retain information. The talking speed, even though a bit fast maybe for some, was fine to me, because the information quality was like a scalpel without unnecessary rambling. Very precise, thank you. Great video!

      Congrats on the A7C! I'm not too sure what you're asking for. Are you looking for camera basics such as Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO? Or setup in the menu? The former can be found on TH-cam; just search for "how to shoot manual in video" or you can watch some old videos I made: th-cam.com/play/PLSzAIFFv_LQhD9vx_yPtvhOh__7ITsU00.html The latter I can try to help with, but it might be worth searching for "Sony menu setup" as I feel like I've seen a couple of those videos floating around. This was an important video for me. 1) I am choosing between the S5 vs A7C for my long distance hiking videos and gear reviews and 2) When I do landscape hiking videos, I am seeking simplicity in post production. A professional on TH-cam, Kraig Adams actually used the standard profile on his Sony shooting (A7III and A6600)! He has 500k subscribers lol

      @@boywithacamera I want the Panasonic 10bit and colors, but I need a 16-17mm wide lens that won't cost 1400$. 20mm on that S5 kit lens isn't wide enough. I'll probably go A7C (a ton of professional YT'ers were JUST using a A7III) since I think it's good enough for me. Pair it with the Tamron 17-28 and I should be good for landscape video of me walking on trail.

    bruh... lol I've had the A7C for about a month now and have probably spent 100hours watching Gerald Undone, DunnaDidIt, and countless other channels talk about Picture Profiles and Dynamic Range, color science, etc. I have also been testing and filming shit around my house and outside testing out different settings, then bringing it back into Premiere, trying out tons of input corrective luts (HLG/Slog/Cine --> rec709) and creative luts. Then literally tonight, I decided that Standard is what I am going to use going forward. One hour later, I came across your channel starting with your video about why you sold your A7S iii, and later came upon this video and I wish I had saw this video sooner lol. It was a fun science experiment nonetheless, but I feel so much better knowing that I can focus on what matters, instead of having my head always thinking about exposure and colors, and then the work that will be needed after, etc.
    I'm digging your channel, subbed. Keep it going :]

    Thank you sir. Very good video. I shoot a full wedding in standard mode which this adjustments and the result is a perfect footage. Yes, I lose a little bit of dynamic range but more than 90% of the mortals won’t notice that if you know how to shoot. Thank you again. Hey, one cuestión, this work for the a7iv? I’m planning to buy that cámara.

      That's awesome! Hmm A7IV I think SLog3 will be better since you'll get the dynamic range and it's a 10-bit codec. But for quick turnarounds I'm sure the Standard profile will look great.

    I got a little confused. So C1 for zebras is 70 for any PP or CS. And C2 98 for standard CS and 107 for slog2?

    • @boywithacamera
      @boywithacamera  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you got it! I'm also finding that you can set a lower value for C1 + Standard. So C1 = 70 for S-Log2, but you can go for 60 or 65 with Standard. Regardless, I'd say these are just starting points so play around with it and take mental notes of how your images are when you are editing. Hope that clears things up. :)

It takes more time when I'm editing to fix those colours so I just stick with the profiles shown in this video. Hope that helps!

    Great video dude! Been trying to figure out what profile to shoot on my 6400. I've liked the CINE4 lately, and with some customization it does shoot a nice flat image with good dynamic range. I find that I'm not a fan of S.Gama.Cine. The magenta in the skin is too strong in low light. As far as the answer to the "why shoot in the non standard?" question. For me I've been trying to get better at editing and color grading, and getting my own look in things. Having that flexibility really helps.

    • @elias_nichols
      @elias_nichols 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One more quick thing: with my CINE4 for a little more flexibility, but also for a little easier to use than SLOG I use the following settings, if anyone wants to try them out. (Credit to Cody Blue)
      Black Level: +2
      Gamma: Cine4
      Black Gamma: Wide +4
      Knee: Manual, 80% +2
      Color Mode: Pro
      Sat: -5
      Color Phase: 0
      Color Depth: R +3 G +1 B -1 C -4 M -4 Y +3
      Detail: -6

    • @boywithacamera
      @boywithacamera  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I'm going to have to get on Cine4 and really try it out! And for the shots at 7:09 and 7:21 does the S-Log2 skin look too magenta to you? Those are at like...12800 and 5000 ISO if I remember correctly and I didn't change any hues. I'm wondering if the colours have changed a lot since the 6400 or if I need to recalibrate my display ahha.
      And true! It's definitely a skill that's nice to have. I think I'm just getting lazier as time goes and I'm digging a more neutral and 'standard' look. Glad you have something that works for you and I'm going to see if I can get some time in with Cine4. Thanks Elias!

    • @elias_nichols
      @elias_nichols 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boywithacamera I'm not sure if it's changed much. That being said, the sensor is a lot larger on the A7C anyways, so it might just be better. As far as those 2 time stamps: the skin tones look nice and natural, but you do have warmer skin tones than me naturally, and a lot of the magneta I've noticed is when I film my wife. She is blonde and has very pale skin naturally. So it might just be a natural skin tone thing. Not sure.
      The reason i chose cine4 is that it's a little more contrasty and makes maintaining skin tones easier for me as a newish editor. I'd be curios to hear your thoughts on it!

    • @boywithacamera
      @boywithacamera  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elias_nichols Okay thank goodness--I thought my eyes or display was entirely off!
      Ahh that makes a lot of sense. The recommended exposure for different skin tones varies too so might be worth looking deeper into that too.

  • @HarisHussain
    @HarisHussain 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey bro this might be a dumb question, but when someone is vlogging or trying to get some cinematic shots outside Am I still supposed to keep exposing the image correctly/use zebras every single time? Like if I’m inside a building for one part of my vlog and then outside the next minute doesn’t the exposure of the image change so for vlogging does that specific part “matter”? I’m new to picture profiles and exposing for them so I’d really appreciate an answer to this lol because I don’t know if I’m supposed to expose for every shot outside of stills/single scene videos

    • @boywithacamera
      @boywithacamera  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the question Haris!
      So the short answer is yes, you want to expose everything properly in order to get a good image. This can be tedious though and might be too slow if you’re using the skin tone zebras (custom 1 in this video I think?). If you’re using the higher zebras though (95+) then you can keep these on all the time and just make sure your skies don’t have any zebras. When you’re indoors you can just expose by eye/whatever looks good, but keep an eye on any zebras that pop up since that will be recorded as pure white. For example when you’re indoors you might see zebras on a light bulb or a window, which will be recorded as pure white.
      Not sure if that makes sense since it’s all text, but hopefully that helps a bit!

      Thanks for your time Sam! I've been playing around with HLG and Cine4 the past couple of days. They both seem good and offer a good level of dynamic range, but to be honest I don't really see any major benefits over the two profiles in this video. That being said, I don't see any real cons of going with HLG either other than those shifted oranges and yellows, which would be an extra step in post-production. So as long as you don't go with the default Standard profile I think you're good!
