Ivan and Nikita came to the Lynchburg Armory for a match in the late eighties when I was working at the YMCA. They came in to the weight room and worked out before the match that night. I was so impressed …Ivan went to the leg extension / hamstring station while Nikita did about 35 reps with 225lbs on the bench.
Tony Atlas had a great run from '79 to '84 in NWA, AWA and WWF. He challenged Harley Race in Georgia and Nick Bockwinkel in Minnesota, fueled with the Stomper in the Omni, Hulk Hogan in MSG and the Spectrum and Bruiser Brody in ST Paul, before winning the WWF tag titles with Rocky Johnson in '83 from the Samoans. He is the only wrestler I know of who could perform a military press slam and was agile enough to throw multiple drop kicks. Thanks for posting his matches in Houston, he was a real superman.
Points wise...Ivan won by a mile...especially when he was dominantly punishing Atlas in the traps claw, and, Ivan was enjoying the "stimulating" friction from "riding" against Atlas' boulder-like shoulder...just itch-tinglin in his gear with every little struggggling movement of agony from Atlas, Ivan savoring the inconspicuous "jackings" he received from the lengthy traps-claw holds...while Atlas was lookin, acting, and feelin like a total muscle-wimp in front of the crowd....Had to have Koloff feeling satisfied, and alpha-masculine as hell
Tony Atlas was my favorite wrestler growing up and Ivan Koloff was one of my favorite villians

The military press slam was a great show of Tony's strength (and the core strength of the throwee!) really amazing.

Good to see Bronco Lubich officiating this match. A no nonsense referee and a legit tough guy.
