Its a great tuning for sure. What I struggled with is that I found myself writing the same (or at least very similar) sounding riffs over and over again. I wasnt really able to find different "moods" with this tuning. I always ended up with TMP-style themes. After a year I went back to Eb-standard and Drop Db which I found more versatile in the long run.
I feel this. Every time I see a Midwest emo band, they're always messing around with tunings. There is usually a break or two in the set where they retune their guitar. Probably because you can only get so much out of this kind of tuning. It's great for what it does though!
@@chrismaghintayyeah you either have to bring a lot of guitars or retune which can really take some time and not every type of guitar string likes this. For sure! I would see these tunings as setting a particular mood and if you want to change that feeling then use another tuning or do it all in standard haha

Something I love to do with alternate/open tunings is playing standard chord shapes. you can get some gnarly sounding stuff that way. Some is dissonant of course (which I personally like) but you can also get some really big, harmonic chords if you move it to the right spot
But with alt tunings you use the same shapes or idea of to create a new chord or arrangement of chords to unlock a new or certain playing style for ex if you like sus2 play in add4 tuning and they goes from there
@@epiphonium I once had a book, "8848 guitar-chords", and ALL in "standard tuning". Some were "finger-breaking".. How she kept track of all those fingerings is still a mystery to me. Especially after she got her Parker Fly guitar, and let the Roland VG-8 guitar-synth take care of them.

Another cool variant (that SY also use) is to drop the high E so that it's in unison with the next string (CGDGBB / DAEAC#C#).
When I saw Jackson Browne’s solo tour many years ago he had a grand piano, electric piano and 15 acoustic guitars onstage. My magical tuning for effortless beautiful chords is G-D-d-f-g#-b (fifth string is lowest). If one places fingers according to the recipe "Place index finger across 5 strings; cover 0-3 strings with the middle finger on the next fret, 0-3 strings with the ring finger on the fret above that, and 0-2 with the pinky on the fret above that, most arrangements will be usable chords. 00:50 that was so cool! It sounds like Sam Fender riff. First time i see this kind of tuning.
I’ve been using a similar one for a while, DADACE. I’ve never had a tuning that almost demanded tapping from me before that one.
Oh wow....! It does sound amazing!
Interesting,thanks😊
You're welcome 😊 thanks for watching!
Thanks, this was eye-openng.
I’ve based my entire failed career off of this tuning and FACGCE
😂
I'll take note to stay away then😂
This is great! Thank you! ❤
This channel, single handedly, made me want a telecaster so bad!!!
sorry 😅
I often use this tuning and DAEABE :)
I have experimented with many different tunings in the 50 years I have been playing but I always come back to standard because it is the most flexible. Unless you want to change the tuning for each song, I feel it’s best to just learn to play with the standard tuning. You get better and then it doesn’t seem so hard.
You can always have multiple guitars with diffrent tunings to grab one depending on the mood.
Good for you! Just maybe not good for everyone
New Standard? 😉
i felt it when he started playing sundress by TMP
one of the best daeace song ever
BEBF#BE
Bar for a 9th. Use one finger on an additional fret for a major or minor. Low B is available for metal. Drop to A if it suits you.
Tried dadfad it was kinda cool gonna try this one too im a noob and just started trying new tuning
Looks interesting, I'm gonna try it out
This really cool. Time to come out of the standard tuning dark ages for sure !
As you were playing the first song I immediately thought it sounds like tiny moving parts.
Your picture show a C natural instead of C#. Your original tuning with C and D made me think of Amin and Dmin9 but, the C# changes everything!
🙃🎸☮️💕
I mean it’s a sus4 chord stacked on a major chord…so it’s always going to be brighter
I bet if one tuned to the C natural, it would darken the mood
A side note,..as a Tele player I’m always considering a thinline. May I ask which model you are playing? (PS my tenor guitar is tuned GDADor E and I have the same experience with ease of composing).
Good for acoustic
Just fabulous
That would work well with another guitar in standard tuning in certain situations, love it 👍🏼
Beautiful Thinline!
do you guys know any tuning like this that would also work with minor keys as well? like some kind of universal complex beautiful tuning that works as a main thing
I love tunings like this. I like FACGCE a lot, but I tend to tune it down to EG#BF#BD# (EMaj9 I think?) so my strings don't hate me, lol.
Goo Goo tuning. I'm a fan.
What was the song by tiny moving parts called?
Sundress 👍 from Pleasnt Living
Why’ve I only just found this? Great tone btw
Joni Mitchel used a Roland VG88 for switching tunings
Came for the concept, stayed for the Fender 🤩 Is it a tele?
haha! Thanks. Yes, it's an American original telecaster in surf green. I switched the pickguard for an aged pearl one.
3:24 That sounds really good!
this, but half step down. My go to alternative tuning
I thought it was gonna be a video on D7sus2 and i got kinda confused cuz ive never seen anyone play that tuning 😩
Also i love that les paul emo riff you play on this tuning. It sounds so sweet 😍
Sundress by Tmp is so fun to play
Totally agree
Very new to electric, what kind of amplifier/pedal settings do you use to get that sound?
For this video, I was using the nux MG30.
Very nice.
Thanks!
people that can tap like this frustrate me to no end, because i feel like it takes a level of dexterity i have never, and will never, ever, be able to achieve. i just do not understand how some people can literally get their fingers to do things that precise as if it's nothing. meanwhile i hear the chords and notes but can't make my hands do anything remotely complex.
