The vast majority of songs Steven Wilson has anything to do with are sad, sad songs, about sad, sad topics, and yet his music *never* fails to make me happy. So weird.
I feel the same way. As if the melancholy uplifts my spirits because I can feel the pain of the narrator. The empathy stirred, fills me with a sense of joy and happiness. The best I can think to describe such a deep transference of energy.
ich musste 65 jahre alt werden, um diese fantastische band kennen zu lernen - noch mal danke an den bassisten meiner letzten band! und diesen song spielt bitte auf meiner beerdigung!
My favourite PT song on my favourite PT album (Deadwing), but sadly I think you are right. It is too complex for the main stream. But that's why, you can enjoy it in hundred times. I think this is the song what everyone should listen who is looking for inspiring rockmusic.

9/8 and 5/4 time sigs along with that epic bridge makes this an incomparable, musical tune. They are all exceptional musicians but Gavin keeps it all together with a precision meter.
This is exactly the magic of having such a level of musicians in your band. Never heard a song which is entirely in odd time but still manages to sound so so so fucking melodious.
Richar Barbieri and Colin Edwin have absolutely owned this track. From 4:40 onwards, this song is an absolutely atmospheric masterpiece! I can't get over how good this work is...
The first time I heard this , I was on a rail track walking, minding my own business. The first parts didn't hit me up. But when that 9/9 part came on. I immediately knew I had to check on them. And the rest you guys know what happened. It was around 2012. I discovered the best band imo & its 2021 still praising them for what they have left for their listeners. I feel pity for rest of the people who couldn't connect to them. I wish I could erase my memory & go back to the moment.
Minute 4.44 to 6.44, one of the most wonderfull musical passages of the history of Rock. Only two minutes of beauty. This part of the song could became the start of something beatiful...
Completely agree! And I never ever heard a drummer make a song in 9/8 groove like this... Imo it´s one of PT´s best works and definitely one of the best parts in music ever written and arranged 🙂

I saw PT live years ago in Toronto and met Steven Wilson, barefoot on the street. Never have I witnessed such a precise live performance. Close to perfect sound and delivery.
I can't go a day without listening to Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson. I think what these guys do and have done is our resume to God that what human is.

I love all of Steven Wilson's different projects; even his solo stuff is great, but I loooooovve Porcupine Tree the best. I've always been a prog rock lover, but these guys do it beautifully!
That bass at the start of the song is just out of this world! Mad props to Colin Edwin! Definitely the start of something beautiful! This might very well be the best love song ever made!
One of their best song in my opinion... and this live performance is just terrific. I recommend to buy this wonderful live cd/dvd: great setlist and band always on point
I had a dream about this exact live show. I was in the perspective John Wesley and my bassist friend was Edwin. It was probably the best dream I have ever had. I woke up in such a euphoric state.
Hey Jack such an amazing dream you had, around 2010 I had a dream in which I met Gavin Harrison after a concert and had a brief but unusual talk. One year later I went to Dublin to see him giving a Drum clinic, I ended up being interviewed by Gavin Harrison before the show and spend 30 minutes with he and drum technician before the show. Man, dreams fucking come true and really hope yours come to fruition, here's the video of the interview th-cam.com/video/jYV8WLegkHU/w-d-xo.html
I missed the chance of seeing them live way back in 08, also because i thought there would be plenty of other opportunities, but mainly because I needed to work overtime on a stupid project... In a job I was later let go like a dog as soon as the crisis hit hard and IMF were called to Portugal in 2010. Last year, I didn't make the same mistake. One of my life's biggest regrets, solved. Top 3 shows of my life, ever.
This song has been the closest to my heart since I heard it in 2008. From 6.04 to 6.34.... that solo...that's pure love !! This song gives you goosebumps every time you listen to it with eyes closed. REPLY
A friend turned me onto PT last year, agree this is one of their best. So many of the tones and spatial sounds cast way back to groups like Barclay James Harvest. I put on some PT a couple weeks ago, when my sister was visiting, by the second song she was hooked, another fan.
Steven's guitar playing (or should i say Steven's guitar "crying") from 6:35 onwards, goddamn those notes hit right in the feels Also, I definitely am in love with the song in its entirety, but 4:40 onwards this song goes from great music to an other worldly vibe, one of the best build ups to and followed by an amazing outro.
Constant amazement at the perfection in these guys live performances! I’m just waking up to Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson. Had a chance to see Steven a couple years ago at a small venue in SLC but missed it. I’m kicking myself for that dumbass mistake.

I don't mean he writes bad lines, but he is often clearly trying to ruin it just for the sake of it. Pretty pretentious. For info, apparently this is not just "bitter" (and I guess self-righteous) but clearly about incest and probably even darker. It just makes "melancholy" downright "rotten". It actually contributed to a depressive phase one time when I considered the In Absentia album, which has some of the most gorgeous, Pink Floyd-like sentimentality (still deep and complex, of course) but is ALL the darkest, most rotten stuff in topic.
Porcupine Tree, the greatest band you've never heard of!!!
So true...

Uso Indevido I've changed it now though lol, to a better one ha
Genio total
Is Deadwing their most underrated album? It’s fucking phenomenal. Shallow, Arriving anywhere but not here, THIS SONG! It’s fucking sooo good.
Also Mellotron Scratch, the title track and Glass Arm Shattering!
Who said it underrated? It litterally their most popular album
@XJoeyJordison666X Haven‘t you ever noticed how this word, underrated, is under every single music video on TH-cam?

Just look at the bass player, he's always happy
You are feeding yourself with the grief & suffering of other people. You monster!
"That's because I've always felt that the saddest music is also the most beautiful"
It's probably Colin Edwin's never ending smile haha

@@marketmogul You're right😅Anesthetize is one of their best song
Gavin is deep in the feel of the song. Such brilliant drumming, that that too on an odd time signature. He is actually the king of drums.
I really do like him a lot but there is a Great Drummer named Bill Buford that plays for King Crimson, Remember Him!
@@stevekatz4372 Bill is epic, I feel Gavin is on a different level. Seeing this DVD, I switched back to drums from guitar..... life changing

Colin's beatific grin. Every. Single. Time.
Makes me smile ... love it.
Man , if I could be reborn , I'd wanna be Steven Wilson.
Goosebumps every single time
Every time I hear this song it makes me feel like being in a dream. This music at the end....❤❤❤
I don't think music will get any better than this. I was lucky enough to see them live in 2010, this was the best song during their performance.
