Oh, my favorite part of the restoration begins. I will go watch this in the garage as I am trying to remove the seized lever shocks from the TR4 LOL. Looking forward to the rest of the engine and transmission. I've only done one Spitfire engine and I don't remember much so it will be interesting to see what's inside :)
You guys both have pretty cool channels. Steve, I just subscribed to yours to help you along, and thanks for the recent compliment on my Spitfire gearbox video--I hope it helps. Nice work! Maybe I'll get to meet one or both of you in person some day.
Thanks Elin! I have never rebuilt an engine before so this will be a learning experience. I’m going to have to rewatch your engine rebuild videos as I go!
@Midwest Motoring your videos are fantastic! Thanks for the added support. I love the process and learning. It’s also fun to share my journey with others.
Looking good! You keep driving me to get to work on my Spit!
Thanks Tim!!
Nice!
The tabs on the trans mounts on my GT6 were broken off before I bought it. Someone fabricated a mount that clamps around the tailpiece. It was hideous looking but worked. I improved it, I'll have to dig up pics and show you.
(I've got the replacement parts sitting on a shelf... That's a someday project)
Oh that is kinda funny. Those mount bolts must be notorious for seizing up over 50 years. Replacing the tail shaft is no small job either.
Nothing like having a local ACE Hardware nearby for those emergency nuts & bolts needs. After watching you disassemble that clutch, I'm wondering how my mechanic/shop was able to do that from inside the cockpit area.
You got that right! I’ve done it twice from the inside of the car. It’s actually pretty simple to do. The car was well planned for maintenance.
Looking good Steve! Are you going to make a video of the Jetta clutch job?
Thanms Gream! Na, not filming the clutch job. That is less pleasure and more necessity. That and there was a lot of cursing during the removal of the transmission.
Making good progress, doing my vitesse engine I turned the engine mounting plate the other way round (length side down) this allowed me to adjust the fingers onto the top righthand side hole like yours but also top lefthand hole one. It allowed me to get mine not perfectly upright but certainly close. Goodluck though really moving forward.
Thanks Philip! I was unsure of using the mounting plate on the stand. I saw pics of people doing it both ways, and wasn’t sure if the plate would flex and cause issues for me down the road.
@@StevesProjectCarGarage Yes I had similar concerns but having mounted the Vitesse straight 6 I have had no problem. I agree though always many ways to do it and what your happy with is the most important.
Interesting! I’ll probably leave it as it, but that is good to know should it not being straight up and down becomes a problem.
frame looks pretty good in this vid. i guess some water probably got inside the frame.... what do you think of ispraying fluid film inside frame rails to displace any water that got inside.. and to keep corrosion away in general. maybe inside the body cavities too.
Thanks Nick! The frame is pretty decent which is a relief. I was thinking about using a cavity wax for those area to just help prevent issues. On the tub I used silver master series paint to protect everything but some added help is certainly not a bad idea at all.
