Keep in mind with the score ratings that they're supposed to account for course/weather on the day so the sub-9:50 @ IM TX & the sub-4 @ 70.3 Oregon were supposed to be the same in terms of difficulty last year. Oregon had great weather so it makes some sense why the time is so fast (along w./ the swim). & what the pro rating ends up being might look different from one year to the next. the same time at a race doesn't usually give the same score rating in different years. It could be that you need a 9:40, a 9:50, or 10-flat @ IM Texas this year. That makes it harder to target time because you don't know what you will have needed to hit until after a race. I've also found that it's harder to get a higher score rating on days with good conditions. Score ratings compare how the middle of the pack does from year to year. It's a bit of a mess.
@@triwillwatson trying to do the same thing as you this season! Got reasonably close last season & looked into a lot of this stuff. Also would say to think about your swim/bike/run strengths/weaknesses & use that to help pick out races. I'm a newer swimmer so the Olympic distance isn't a good score rating race for me since the swim makes up a greater percentage of time than it does in a Sprint/70.3/140.6. I've lined up some Sprints this year that have shorter swims & longer run legs than the standard distances.
