Im soon to be 53 and just got my first MPC cause I figuerd it would be more safe than try to grow a pony tail and buying a motorcycle. I really appreciate your vids and your pedagogical aproach. Im having lots of fun and your vids really helps me understandig the process better (what I can understand at this point, 2 months in ;D). Love your vids. Keep doing what you do and Thanks!!
That’s amazing mate. I’m 53 in March next year. Personally, despite the aches, I love my 50s. I’m really happy my videos are helping, and I learned a new word (pedagogical).
im 55 as of 8/10 and bin at the live2 since 2021...gavbe up on it after a bit, bin using ableton [fl2, moonfish, tuareg[!] etc] before and damn the workflow bugged me. i used the sp404sx instead, and the live21 was supposed to be better for me [arthritic 52 yr old hehe]... antyway i had n opoint whatsover aside from bigging up the 50s hehe!" EDIT: and CONAN!
Conan the amount of game we get from you on this channel is damn near unfair. And I love that beat! I remember hearing it on one of your other videos. Salute 🫡
@@TheCratesMotelI probably should get AIR Flavor Pro. There’s probably a lot of good stuff you can do with it. I only have the regular one. I need to experiment more with AIR Maximizer too.
Conan you really have a knack for explaining things in a way that just clicks with my brain. I'd love to see a video one day on sound selection, especially for layering your own drums with breaks. Cheers!
@@TheCratesMotel yes! I have two plug ins on my main out i put on once I have a loop going and from there on I mix on the Tracks (Drums and Samples) to blend em and make em sound. I like your videos to get some Ideas and check my own process. I like how you explain everything. I feel like I get information I need to hear.
@@TheCratesMotel I defenetly take the EQ settings you shown and the Tube Drive is magic on my drums! I use it a lot to make them stand out. I like my drums loud :D
Would love to see you drop a video on gain staging as you earlier mentioned. I’m fortunate to own a few special analogue meters, so I know what levels I’m aiming for from recording to programming. By the time it comes to a Pro Tools dump, levels are already set and half the work is done. Would be great to educate your followers on the importance of headroom and general level recommendations (PPM vs VU?). Calibrating levels between MPC & AD/DA interface is also an important conversation to have. Love your content mate!
I learned alot....much appreciated. Now I have to go back and remix my catalog.....yikes.... Looking forward to the gain staging tutorial.... As always excellent teacher.
@@TheCratesMotel Finally had a sit down and applied this knowledge to a track of mine and got to say it really does sound so much more professional now. Much more together sounding and even across the whole mix. Also spicing up the drums and over all mix with the para Eq as well was more fun then expected. Cheers mate! Thanks again!
Nice!! Figured you were doing standalone duties but a potential extra segment on your tal dac presets over this drum beat may set the community on fire again 😂🔥 🎉
a last question I wanted to drop the last time too. How do you get to work your OBS ? Wich output source do you use? As far as I know OBS just works with Direct Sound not with the Audio Interface. That would be really nice to see how you set your OBS Audio.
I use a PC so I have ASIO drivers. I can then just pick my interface as the source when I add an ASIO sound source in OBS. It’s quite a new function in OBS as they didn’t support ASIO for years but now they do. It helps if your interface has Loopback which most do now. If you’re on a Mac it’s way easier. So in my OBS I have an audio input for my MPC and my mic and then a direct desktop input in case I’m playing any audio from my computer. I use an Audient Evo 16 as my interface, and a Neumann MT48 for my mic as the converters are amazing.
If I have a well mixed track with ceiling set to -0.2 dB, would lowering the ceiling to -6dB be enough to prepare the track for mastering? Would simply lowering the final volume do the trick?
If you are 100% happy with the firmware you are using then don’t update mate. If you are interested in the new functionality offered with 3.0, then try it out, you can always downgrade.

Yes mate, spot on. Just make sure it’s maxing out at around -6db on the main out.
Two weeks ago I updated to 2.15 having been on 2.10 for years. Wish I didn’t. Hate it, mad buggy. Would you mpc heads recommend updating to mpc3?
If you are 100% happy with the firmware you are using then don’t update mate. If you are interested in the new functionality offered with 3.0, then try it out, you can always downgrade.
Could you render the beats and upload them maybe .
It’s only going to be a seven second piece for my channel intro mate, so I’ll probably not be uploading the finished track.
How do you like the MPC3 so far?
Yeh I’m digging it. I guess it’s different for everyone but it hasn’t affected my workflow negatively as much as it has for some people, so I like it.
