Council guy: We are of one mind about this, the path ahead is clear. Bradford: I recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid ass decision, I've elected to ignore it.
I hope not. I think it would sound better that the surprise attack on the base was successful. On iron man. And impossible. We don't want to look completely inept! Lol
Selon Yeah, I read that. I think it's silly since whenever you lose it says the xcom project is terminated effective immediately. I think it would have made more sense to say that after you destroyed the temple ship, you soon learned they were just the vanguard, and when the whole invasion fleet shows up, enough of the council was like 'well, shit' and withdraws from xcom, forcing xcom to be what it is in 2. Just my opinion though.
Or the XCOM win ending is the canon one but the Volunteers' saving Earth alters all, such as resetting to phase 1 of the invasion--saving Earth--but the Etherals use this knowledge to quickly defeat XCOM. This way, we win in XCOM and lose so this dev' can have his way.
I believe that the devs made this ending the canon one, based on the worldwide stats. More players actually lost the game, thus getting the XCOM 2 we know and love
I believe this ending isn’t cannon instead when the aliens surprise attack the base we lose and the commander gets kidnapped and put inside a simulation that simulation is xcom 1 a alternate scenario where the commander wins
On my first playthrough I died miserably. Mentally prepared myself, and my second playthrough I gave them Hell!!! Awesome game, now preparing for classic difficulty
It is, the XCOM 2 story starts with humanity surrendering unconditionally to the aliens. But the real question is, did the nations of the world make this decision on their own, or did they only agree under mind control.
OK, first time I've seen this ending. I guess this works for XCom 2, since you get to be a rebel force, but I was expecting another race of dominant aliens to arrive. One which the human race is now ready to overcome, thanks to being exposed to the aliens in XCom: Enemy Unknown. Perhaps Alternate Universe expansion? or XCom 3?
All the interviews for Xcom 2 say 'Enemy Unknown ends with humanity losing the war' and I was super confused. I had to come here to find out that there was a different ending than kicking their butts and sending them packing : /
In the good ending where you destroy the ship there ends up being a second one and I thought that was the true end cause the second ship just comes in a whipped the flood with us
You know whats the best? This ending is actually more cannon than the "good" one which is kinda anoying. You worked your ass out, playing this entire game to get an ending with is not even remotly revelant?!
Think of it as different universes. Every time you play is a different universe, you beat the game you save that universe. But that time you failed? That's when XCom 2 comes in.
it is and isnt i can see where your coming from but from what we know you initially kicked the aliens asses. then they stopped fucking around and decimated xcom
The way I understand it... According to my reading of the opening of 2, is that you lost during the base assault, commander being captured and every played beyond that point was merely the aliens using your strategic mind to learn how to combat the human resistance.
After trying to search about the bad ending all over TH-cam and think something like if Civilization 5 has lose ending why XCOM doesn't have it, then i'm so glad that i found this! Although i'm not good with anything real life . I tried the demo and my allies always got headshot so i can't do anything other than stay behind the block and hunker down. Shame for me. :'(
i think the lore base on this ending was bad and lazy. They should have gone with aliens pooping out 5 temple ships from hyperspace along with a fleet of destroyers, frigates, fighters flying over cities.

+bboythekidstudios Good one. Fury's answer hahaha.
+bboythekidstudios this is literally the plot of xcom 2
+FAH Holliday it's just like mass effect 3 no matter what you do it doesn't matter the outcomes the same
Daniel Tukua Fuck you, XCOM 2 is already goty 2016.
FAH Holliday I know how else would you know the plot for xcom 2
In XCOM 2 it looks like this ending is canon.
I hope not. I think it would sound better that the surprise attack on the base was successful. On iron man. And impossible. We don't want to look completely inept! Lol
Kev Urbie
In an IGN interview with one of the devs was stated, that the negative ending on impossible difficulty with ironman will be canonized.

Kev Urbie Now that sounds plausible.

when i saw those thin men, i thought there were council members right next to him hanging themselves.
jesus christ it spooked me
+Jack McNally Jesus that would have been dark as fuck O_O
Well fuck. That's dark.
I believe that the devs made this ending the canon one, based on the worldwide stats. More players actually lost the game, thus getting the XCOM 2 we know and love
That's interesting!
I believe this ending isn’t cannon instead when the aliens surprise attack the base we lose and the commander gets kidnapped and put inside a simulation that simulation is xcom 1 a alternate scenario where the commander wins
Too bad I'm unable to find the music playing during this cutscene, it truly emphasizes the tragical and terrifying fate about to plague Humanity.
On my first playthrough I died miserably. Mentally prepared myself, and my second playthrough I gave them Hell!!! Awesome game, now preparing for classic difficulty
apparently this was the true ending for the first one
It is, the XCOM 2 story starts with humanity surrendering unconditionally to the aliens.

Alex Schwieterman So the good ending is nothing more than a dream and/or an alternate universe?
Correction: the cannon ending is us losing the base assault in EW expansion

0:42 Russia in 2022...
Dark times are ahead of us
This would only be true if the guy missed the button with a 99% chance to hit it
this explaines why i never trusted that guy on the screen

This isn't just the canonical ending, this is the ending we got in real life. :(
Guerilla warfare time...
After hearing about the Brexit results, this is the first video I wanted to see again. And it's perfect.
Love how Bradford and the rest just sit there lookin at it. I expected them to turn around and just say... "WTF just happenend?"
You know whats the best? This ending is actually more cannon than the "good" one which is kinda anoying. You worked your ass out, playing this entire game to get an ending with is not even remotly revelant?!

I know. But it still sucks.

If Le Pen happens to be elected I'll be sure to think about that game.
MA PLANÈTE, MON PINARD
@@majormiller493 Doux Jésus.
Isn't the Mystery guy voiced by Jon Bailey?
He he, I understand
Thats it? We're screwed
+blairwitchprojects And guess what? It is officially canon for XCOM 2.
neither of them are canon, yes XCOM is defeated, but not like this
i think the lore base on this ending was bad and lazy. They should have gone with aliens pooping out 5 temple ships from hyperspace along with a fleet of destroyers, frigates, fighters flying over cities.
+Nestor Gonzalez This was creepy as fuck, though.

This time we are struggling in Xcom 2
