The spotted flycatcher is an inconspicuous, small songbird with a body length of 13.5 - 14.5 cm, a span of 23 - 25 cm and a weight of about 16 g. So it is smaller than a sparrow. It is gray-brown on the top and the base of the body is light. It is dark dashed on the forehead of the neck and chest. Both sexes are colored the same.
    00:40 FOOD
The spotted flycatcher is an insectivore. He is mostly fed by flying insects. Exceptionally, it also collects larvae or smaller pupae and various berries.
    00:54 NESTING
It is inhabited by parks, gardens in villages and on the edges of forests. It nests 1-2 times a year. A bowl-shaped nest of stalks of grass, moss and roots lined with fur is most often placed in an open cavity, in various niches, ledges or in open birdhouses. The female usually lays 5 eggs on which both parents take turns for about 12 - 15 days. The young are then fed by both parents for about two weeks on the nest. Then the young birds leave the nest.
    01:40 HABITAT
It nests throughout Europe outside the northernmost regions of Scandinavia, in the temperate zone of Asia to Mongolia and northwestern Africa. Like an insectivore, it is migratory. This small bird migrates from Europe to Central and South Africa for the winter.
