Did you see he recanted the comments he made after the 500 regarding Lopez hitting that spectator truck and posted this instead I wanted to clarify my earlier post regarding the incident at this year’s Baja 500 where a spectator’s truck was hit by Apdaly Lopez. I was attempting to use humor to raise light about a very serious issue and that is the increased interference by the fans at the races. Clearly the sarcasm was lost in my post and for that I truly apologize to my fans, sponsors and off-road community at large. I totally condone what Apdaly did and in no way was trying to justify it nor threaten the fans and locals that I would do the same thing in the future. The reality is off-road racing is dangerous and racing in Mexico is a privilege, not a right. If we want to continue racing down there we need to be respectful of the locals, mindful of the laws and appreciative of their generosity in being allowed to compete there. I urge SCORE to work on finding solutions to some of these issues. Its been interesting to see my post and this story go viral today and while I’m sorry my original post was wrong and not at all how I meant it, I’m glad to be able to use this situation as an opportunity on how we can improve the sport. No one loves racing in Baja more than me so I will do whatever is necessary to continue to be granted the privilege of racing South of the border. Respectfully, BJ Baldwin.
