    Well done Jon - conditions were horrendous - but they do occur from time to time. Remember fishing a match at Ponders End on the River Lea many, many years ago in similar conditions - the bank is approximately 3-4ft from the water and I had a 1lb chub in the net at the time - wind was so strong I can remember seeing the 12ft net blown clean out with the chub at the end!

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'Proper' carp are not allowed in this event, including ghost carp, which are an ornamental species of carp, quite silvery/white with an almost spooky looking 'skull' pattern when you look at them from above. They fight extremely hard!

  • @peterthornton8520
    @peterthornton8520 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done Jon. Even with the Crap peg you drew on the last day a good result overall. I do think the organisers need to look at the pegging because to have an "end" peg next to you with 7 pegs unused looks pretty poor. Just think what could have been if the pegs had been better drawn. 9 is yet again a decent result. Come on next year. Cheers

    Hi Jon, quick question as you said proper carp not allowed but f1’s are.. just wondering as a beginner what is the best way to tell the difference between a carp an a f1? Is there an obvious thing to look for? Thanks

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Main thing is that f1s have no barbules or just little nodules, whereas proper carp have barbules. Common carp are generally leaner and a tighter scale pattern. But there are several types of f1 now, confusing things further!

    Why as many others do you use Imperial for depth and metric for diameters of nylon and length?

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s just the way it is and cannot see it changing. Fish are always pounds and ounces to me. A 500g fish means nothing. Poles are metres. Rods are feet. Depths are feet and inches as that’s a nicer unit to deal with. Hooklengths both inches or cm fine for me. Line is always pounds not kilos. Diameters always metric. Floats in grams where possible. Distance usually metres for me. Bait in pints not litres, but groundbait in kilos as the exception. Welcome to fishing ha ha!

    • @russellmurray8102
      @russellmurray8102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to fishing I was fishing before your existence, and though Dicky Carr invented the through pole elastic I was the person who first used PTFE for a pole front bung. I was asked by Harry Settle about it in 1977, and I used graphite PTFE. I also made them for Benny Kevin Alan Mac and many others ask Heasp's that's Ian Heaps.

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always been of the opinion to give people more room if possible, but looks like they wanted to pair people up, perhaps because the opposite bank was pegged that way, although I would personally always try and give people more space if it’s doable.

    The Moon:I’ve had a few instances where I’ve been catching one a bung and the Moon suddenly becomes visible during the day and every one suddenly stops catching as so all the fish have left the lake.
    This topic is definitely worthy of more discussion.
    I know a few lads that are Carpers and they say night fishing around a Full Moon is really crap.
