Thank you so much for the awesome video. Georgians are a nation of phoenixes, we were burned a thousand times and rose from the ashes a thousand times. With great love from Georgia ❤🇬🇪
As a Georgian myself, and somebody who has done extensive schoolwork on this exact topic several years ago (And still remember much of it), I must say, this is an extremely good, thorough and accurate retelling of the extremely interesting and turbulent 11th century history of Georgia. This period of our country's history is so interesting and great to me because you know it's dark and depressing, but you're also alluded to the eventual rise after this fall, and wait with anticipation to FINALLY reach the triumph of 12th and 13th centuries, where the nation really becomes an empire that was ALMOST good enough to stand the test of time, and did so for over 2 centuries... Glad people like you are spreading our grand yet tragic history in the English language for the rest of the world to see!
It is amazing in a geographical sense, but absolutely horrid in a geopolitical sense, constantly sandwitched between THREE of the most perfect brewing points for oppressive empires! :c
Medieval Georgia was a powerful kingdom in the Caucasus region that reached its golden age during the 11th to 13th centuries. Under rulers like King David IV (David the Builder) and Queen Tamar, Georgia expanded its territory and influence, becoming a significant cultural and political power.
@@lizzycat1271 darlin, she had the title and status of king, check hostorical source if u dont believe me ;) The history knows King Tamari Not Queen tamar.
@whynot7236 While it's true that Tamar was referred to as a king in historical sources, it's important to recognize the context behind this. During her time, there were very few female rulers, and using a male title like "king" was a way to elevate her status in a male-dominated world. The title “king” (or mepe in Georgian) was not necessarily a reflection of her gender but a way to assert authority in a male-dominated society. Calling her a "king" was likely a reflection of the patriarchal norms of her time rather than her actual role or identity as a female monarch. The key point we want to emphasize today is that Tamar was a queen-a woman who held the highest political office in Georgia. Referring to her as a king erases the fact that she was a female monarch. In modern times, it's important to acknowledge her gender and leadership role clearly. By calling her a queen, we highlight her as a powerful female ruler in history, which is significant for understanding and celebrating women's contributions to leadership. While historical texts may use the term "king," this doesn't change the fact that Tamar was a queen-a female ruler. It's crucial that we acknowledge this distinction today, especially as we continue to challenge outdated gender biases. There's no need to perpetuate the use of "king" in modern discussions, as it often reflects old, misogynistic attitudes. Tamar deserves to be remembered as the queen she truly was.
