An Interesting Encounter Between the Elephants & Rhinos

- Elephant carer Owen talks us through an interesting encounter between the herd and rhinos close to the waterhole. After a swim, the elephants enjoy a sand bath. After Khanyisa spots the rhinos, she approaches them, and several elephants follow her to protect her. Owen interrupts and stands close to letting the elephants know they should not advance and fight with the rhinos. The herd back down and go off on their merry way again. It's important for our elephants not to fight with the rhinos, as they also need protection.

All of the love Khanyisa has received from HERD and her adopted family has made her such a confident and brave young ellie. She may make a strong matriarch one day❤❤
I don't think she would hesitate to go for a rhino now if one attacked her or other elephants in her herd. 😅❤

So much patience and tolerance have been provided to Khanyisa by the females here. Kumbura is truly a very dedicated and loyal allomother to the youngest of the herd. She is back to following Khanyisa around to provide company and protection. I hope she is doing well after Baby Phabeni's passing. She has been a really great allomother to him as well. Thank you, Carer Owen, for this great video and for intervening a potential altercation with the rhinos. I always hope for a peaceful and companionable relationship between the Jabulani herd and other species in the bush to prevent any danger or injury. Little Khaynisa 🐘 trying to stand her ground to get a sand bath but Jabulani 🐘 had other ideas and pushed the little ones. Then to see our Khaynisa the brave heart going to try and chase off some Rino's 🦏🦏🦏. But Jabulani 🐘 and Lundi 🐘 stopped her so all is well. They are so interesting. I love watching the dynamics-Jabulani overseeing the two babies and directing things. I love the teachings that the carers give. Thank you, Owen! Amazing how Owen can get up close to them and somehow pass the information not to fight the rhinos and they obey! So wonderful.
Khanyisa waddled off very confidently to the Rhinos - and they are big Rhinos! She's got some attitude there - or maybe its pre-schooler curiosity. Thank goodness the Herd has you there Owen!

Wow, Owen! Today's adventure was a little scary. I did sit on the edge of my chair for a few minutes wondering how far the ellie and rhino interaction would go! Your explanation of the event was informing, but also reassuring! Whew! I did not wantvto see any of the animals in a scuffle, or worse, hurt!

you know Mr Owen if you had not said to us what it was they were doing I would never really know, you are an elephant professor and we are the pupils, and id love and if you want to tell us more in the future what they are doing etc... id absolutely love that, and one of the reason your channel is number one for me is also because you never put music in the background when filming and so it makes the experience so much better its like im actually there seeing them and being part of you all the carers the HERD and all the other animals along with the beautiful wilderness around
your voice is soothing too, Mr Tigere does the same and Miss Adine the same and we love it!!!!
Jabulani was trying to get the children to stop pushing each other 😄 its so amazing their intelligence always so in tune with all their surroundings and always educating the young. So again thank you for your thoughts and you are educating US here who love elephants but for the some who are like me and know NOTHING about them but is fascinated by them and constantly eager to learn more and more about them, and of course the life of the carers who care so much about them daily.

So funny how the youngest get all tough and become the first to Police the danger. Meanwhile, they know darn well that the big guys are going to come and back them up any second. But it's so similar to any human kid that says, "Mom, I'm a big kid, I can handle the situation!"

I realized today that I might take a peek at other elephant sites but HERD is like family. The elephants, Carers and of course Adine are like being at home. The carers have the most caring voices - no wonder the elephants listen so well. I love their accents and the tone of their voices. Very comforting. As for Adine, she is in a class of her own. We can tell how much she loves the elephants.
Hearing her speak recently about Phebeni was very difficult because the grief in her voice was strong. . I’m grateful that Adine shared her grief, though, because that’s one way to move through it. And the info she is sharing about what happened is also important so we can understand what happened to our smallest baby.
So funny to watch them and Khanyisa showing her strength they are truly amazing!🐘🐘❤️❤️!!
I love how Owen is perfectly unfazed at having those big rhinos near by, including a watchful male, and stands by the herd as one of them, ready to intervene.
