- This review of 2015 Menu 18 Beef Ravioli in Meat Sauce is the first I've done of a standard US Military Meal Ready to Eat (MRE) in a while. Being cold it looks gross ;however, In the taste test I found it to be decent and even good after mixing some components. It has a very Chef Boyardee kind of feel and the unheated texture was not ideal to say the least. Coffee "Frosting" was an interesting experiment I'll have to revisit in the future.

A few years ago I was advised by a ration enthusiast in the UK that the retort mains with sauce should be splashed with a bit of water. He claimed that it was a weight-saving measure to remove some of the water before packaging. I believe at the time I was commenting on the density of the pasta in basil tomato sauce (or some such thing) in one of the ORPs. I don't know the truth to this, but I DO know that since then, I have always added a splash of water to all of these dense retort mains with sauce. It makes a world of difference.
Of course, this assumes that you heat the main 🔥🔥🔥😆

A good ration overall, though we on bloodthinners can't eat the cranberries, as it counteracts the meds.
I often eat Chef Boy Ardee Ravioli cold from the can, but it's far wetter than this MRE version.

Sometimes they just don't have the time to even use the FRH at all. Just have to Eat on the move.

I used to put the hot sauce in the ravioli and spaghetti pack.The hot sauce used to come in a little bottle...
Gave those two meals packs extra flavor...I always traded the cheese pack,that thing would clog you up...

Looks good enough to eat. Wonder if soldiers ever use the truck engine trick to heat their meals.
That was a very common way to do it in the days before the ration heater.
You can also fold the top of the bag down and kinda give it a small shake that's what I do and it works every time
Does anyone know why do menus get moved to different menu numbers?
I have purchased a number of FRHs for emergency situations. If one fails. Try another. Lol 😂

I'll usually just boil some water if the FRH is dead. It's interesting to try them cold every now and then though

Canned pasta taste, agreed, however solid! Let's get together, compare, what rations , I have left. Think about, tag team effort, once again? Many rations, under my belt, and, many pasta rations. I never tried one cold, LOL. The look, regardless of hot or cold, well, not appealing. They do serve the purpose. I shall try this soon , sir. I will eat A meal cold. If all reviewers, were as honest as me, Keep Boiling water on stove, because the, FRH fails, 85-90 % of time. To be more honest, I boil ahead, put in, FRH. Reason being, , I put in FRH, and hope for the best, LOL. Usually preparation, is , well worth it. I do, admit, sometimes, heaters take off, like A rocket. Rarely, but does happen. The years , rations, you mention, were less than effective. These are the ones, I am most used to, to, have lapses. I do see good components, and meal, friend. What you said, in, 15 Mins., would take me , 30 minutes. Our demeanors, and styles, differ. Sometimes greatly, however, our interests, and, influences, work well together , and, agree. This , community of ours, thrives on differences, of the same subject, as we both know. When you get A friend, that has, multiple likes, vintage firearms, ETC., Is rare! I have A good friend, from my side of your camera, I think, possibly, you feel the same? MY TIME, AND TO BE HONEST, MY AMBITION, IS NOT, WHAT IT ONCE Was. cRAP, HIT cAPS LOCK. Better now,. The FRH works better when you add salt John. However, I agree about the US FRHs being “No Bueno!” Blessings 👍🏼
