Had a great ride the other evening, my road bike was quiet and humming along great. Checked the headset for movement and there seemed to be some on the top near the stem. But the ride had been flawless. So, I did a complete service of the headset since it was two year. Sadly, it was more loose on top and below. Then tried your method to reset the compression using weight on top with the fork and wheel on the ground. Bingo, everything is solid and tight.
Thanks so much for your great work and the super excellent tip!

The Ride1Up assembly video, in particular Portola e-bike model video is not indicating that installing the headset into head tube requires rocking the headset and fork, wiggling in order to be able to tighten well the head cap? I did not rock but make sure they are aligned. And I still have out of the new box e-bike with loose headset? I’m not sure why some brand lime Ride1Up will leave to general public to do this handlebar installation potentially if not done properly it’s a safe issue.

This may not be your issue on your ride1up. Many of these online e-bikes are being sold with faulty frames, etc. Seems the E-bike industry is focusing more on the E then the bike. They’re trying to throw bells and whistles on the electrical part and use entry level parts and components for the bike parts. Not necessarily the way to go when you’re traveling at faster speeds on a heavier bike.

I check my headset bearings before and after every ride, especially if I’m riding through rough terrain.
