First of all mountain biking like this takes a lot of practice and courage. That being said I do have one question/inquiry. I have a Trek 4300 mountain bike that is almost 14 years old. It has a regular braking system (pads that apply resistance/ pressure to the tire rim). But now some bikes have disk brakes that are attached to the wheel hub. Do disk brakes have any advantages or drawbacks as compared to regular brakes? Thanks....
Disk brakes are much more powerful, much more responsive and much easier to control. Disk brakes are pretty much your only option for real control on the trail these days. Lower end disks are actuated by cables but more and more of the systems use hydraulic fluid just like your car does. Disk brakes are typically more reliable but they are a little bit tougher to set up and maintain if you're not used to it.
hey guys, my big brother has showed me alot of mountain bike stuff and i'd really like to get into it, can anyone suggest a pretty cheap but still good bike for me? I'm 180 cm tall and 16 years old(if that could help)
Mongoose isn't that good. To get a good mongoose bike you will have to pay alot. Im 14 aswell and I do downhill, Depending on how much money you have I'd go for a kona or specialized.
