Love how simple an oil change is on the GM 5.3 engines. When you see the shields and diapers F150 owners have to remove to reach their drain plugs and filters (don't even think about the contortions to reach up in the front of the engine to remove the filter.) you appreciate the filter and drain being located at the easiest access point on a vehicle. Ram does a good job with their 5.7 drain location, but their filter change has you dropping oil on an electrical harness. Simple is best. Go GM.

hillbillytruckster good point. I just came from a 2016 Mustang GT. I had to remove the whole splitter (15 screws or so), 3 of the 4 screws on a plastic shield behind the splitter, and when I removed the filter it was at an angle so it obliterated the wiring harness right underneath it and part of the frame. It was a nightmare every time

Love how mechanics wear gloves to keep their hands clean but touch everything inside the vehicle with the same gloves.

The gloves actually dont transfer their messes as bad as skin does, so long as you wipe the wet messes off

I came looking for a video like this after I spent $102.67 at a Take 5 to get an oil change before we went out of town. Next time, I'll do it myself. Thank you guys for all the videos you post! I've also ordered parts for my 04' grand Marquis from you guys!

Just a quick FYI, I always like to fill vertically mounted filters with oil prior to installation. That allows the oil pressure to build up faster on initial start.

+Dave B Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.

I was a long time prefiller too but when you actually step back and think about it you realize you're putting unfiltered oil on the wrong side of the filter and any contaminants introduced during this time will go straight through the oil system. You have adequate lubrication still remaining in the engine for startup if the vehicle was running. If you have contamination during the pour the filter will catch it if you don't prefill.

Absolutely, Napa oil is made by Valvoline and the Napa Gold filters are Wix racing filters

Thanks for the video. I've always taken my pickup to Les Schwab for service, but apparently, they are no longer offering oil changes, so I've decided to go the DIY route. I change my own oil on every other vehicle I own, so why not. Great informative video.

Thank you for the video. My 2015 Silverado truck is out of warranty already and I just did my first oil change myself. I drained the oil and only got 7 quarts out of it. Don't know if it burned oil or the dealership only added 7 quarts instead of 8....

+Thomas Tommy Thanks for checking us out. The oil pan would be made out of thin steel. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you.

My oil pan is faced horizontally for some reason so the oil doesn't just pour straight down, drops from the side. Not sure why its like that.

+Jeremy Richardson Thanks for watching! You don't have to prefill it, but doing so certainly won't hurt.

Why do technicians use nasty gloves inside the vehicle. Customers love that.
