I've grown "Lazy Housewife" climbing french bean now for 5 years, it's stringless, and even when it gets big, it's still tender. And they get very big if you leave them. It has a wonderful flavour too. Well worth a try. Extremely heavy cropper too.

I seriously appreciate your laid-back approach to gardening, the way you work with Mother Nature, and the way you understand plants. It's very empowering. Case in point, I up-potted a bunch of crowded tomato starts in pots that a friend had given me. I'd been told never to tear them apart at the roots, but per your video I did just that, and they're doing so well, I'm going to have to give a bunch of them away! For this old gardener, you make a lot of sense!

I think I planted my beans too early, before the soil was warm enough and they rotted rather than sprout. Ok, time to replant.

Hi Scott - I use Jim Crockett s advise for bush beans. I dig a trench with my hoe about 3-4” deep. Then broadcast liberally the seeds- nothing fussy - even 1” apart. Cover with soil so there is a low point. You get 3-4 times as many beans and they will support each other as they grow. Works like a charm . Keep up the great work - give Phoebe a treat. 👍

Fresh green beans from the garden are the best! I agree on wanting a true stringless variety. I tried one a few years ago that was supposed to be stringless and still had an awful string. Trying a different one this year. I still have about 20 days before my green beans are producing. Was hoping to beat the heat, but not looking like it here in North Texas, zone 8a. Forecast is showing about 5 days coming up in the upper 80s and low 90s.

Green beans are one of my favorite vegetables to grow. They aren't sexy or unique, but man once they get going, they require little care and produce like crazy. Pole beans especially will go for me up north until they tend to get a bit of leaf disease, or maybe they are just at the end of their life cycle. I find if you plant a second wave they will produce into the fall. The Seychelles variety is supposed to be very good. I have not tried it. One company that has really cool bean varieties is Seeds From Italy.
