Beautiful job. You have a way with them. That being said, I think you have a responsibility to be a better influence on those watching your videos, especially your younger audience. There is no excuse for not wearing a helmet, especially when starting green horses. I know you may feel invincible with your experience but all it takes is one time…one accident…hitting your head just right…

      Thank you!
And absolutely, not wearing a helmet is a risk that IM taking. However, just because I didn't wear one doesn't mean that everyone shouldn't wear a helmet. If you're training your own horse, you can make YOUR own decisions (Whether it's right or wrong) There are so many different opinions, methods, techniques etc. when it comes to horse training. So, I would suggest finding what works best for YOU and your horse :) You will know what feels right!

@@shmustangs8714 The thing is, it’s not really an opinion or something that “works best for people”. There is no argument for not wearing a helmet. There is either the safe way, or the unsafe way. You are making that decision for yourself, yes, but what you are forgetting is by choosing to put your videos out to influence the public as a professional, you have a responsibility to teach responsible horsemanship. If you don’t want to be an influencer, don’t post your training. So really all you can say is “yes, I know it’s better/safer to wear a helmet but I choose to take the risk”. You can’t really say that people need to find what works best for them because not wearing a helmet doesn’t work best for anyone.

@@oldageisdumb Makes sense! I just put videos up for the fun of it right now, nothing professional, and definitely not "how to" videos. I just do it because I enjoy training and sharing videos of my wild mustangs training progress :)
I do trust my training to the point where I know how to not put myself in a dangerous situation, if I thought it would be necessary to wear a helmet I would. I have actually almost never seen a professional horse trainer wearing a helmet. If you simply do not know what you're doing around a horse, a helmet won't save your life. Good horsemanship, timing, and understanding is what is important!

@@shmustangs8714 I don’t want to take away from the fact that you appear to be an outstanding trainer. Like I said, you seem to have a very natural way with horses. There are many, many professional trainers that wear helmets but, sadly, far fewer in the western world which is a real dark mark against it. I wish the western community would take a good look at safety measures and the realities in the sport we love. Maybe it’s just my age and the injuries I’ve seen, but no amount of confidence in your ability will save you from accidents that so commonly happen especially with green horses. Regret is such an awful thing.

@@oldageisdumb I would absolutely agree with you that being as safe as possible is extremely important when working with horses! 100% agree! I'm not against wearing a helmet, definitely not! But again, it's just my choice!
