This goes on all the time but in California rather than use the word tornado, they prefer to call them "gusty winds" or "cells".
The only thing that is rare is when they decide to use the word tornado.
In California it is usually "high wind advisory" but on the other side of the country they just come out and say the word tornado.
The purpose and the only purpose of this media is to keep you in a constant state of fear they exemplify turn in a mole hill into a mountain
