- There are many ways to wrap a sword hilt: wire, leather, cord, etc. This video is the way I wrap my sword hilts with cord. You can use any type of twine - just keep in mind that the thicker the cord the more bulky the hilt will end up being in the hand.
For this video a wrapped an old discontinued version of the Purple Heart Armoury Pentii synthetic longsword (new synthetics can be found www.woodenswor.... This wrap will work on any sword.
If you tried this yourself post it on Instagram and tag me so I can see your work! :)
That cat has great comedic timing
I loved the "helper"! 😸💕
Thank you for making this video for our viewing pleasure! I just subscribed to your channel!
🙏
hey thanks for making this video my sword's wrapping was being a bastard so thank you for making this easy for me
Very helpful video🎉thank you very much❤Now I know how to wrap my sword
I was looking for ideas for the late medieval style cut and thrust sword that I forged, some sort of wrap around the oak handle, I think the cord wrap idea might suit me, thanks for the instructional. The only difference is that I might glue the cord to the hilt. Just need some good twine now.
Thank you!!
Thanks for the tutorial, just used the same technique to add some cord to my spear.
It helps a lot if you can get someone to hold the cord and provide tension.
Classic! Love the cat thinking its play time.
Could clear nail polish be used instead of super glue?
She is an expert sword cat 🐈⬛
@@BrittanySaintLeafy i have no doubt
Thanks - this is a nice, inexpensive way to do things. Bonus points for Nyx ... I also have a black cat "helper" when I knit.
One small silver lining with Covid: We’ve been sanitizing our loaners before and after class with alcohol-based, anti-bacterial wipes, so our club swords all look like new! 😂
This is awesome advice. Thank you I will do that on my next couple of wrappings... I was using the more complicated method before
Nice and concise explanation and tutorial! It worked great! Thank you so much!
Michael
Awesome! You can use a thick Crochet needle for the end and there’ll be less fidgeting and the hook will help you pull it through! :)
Nice! I thought cord wraps were glued to the hilt, but is is much more simple than that.
If it gets a lot of use then definitely glue it. It can’t hurt to reinforce the wrap. :)
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
I make a loop of the twine and overwrap that, tuck the wrap tail through the loop and pull the tail underneath the overwrap.
I'm currently making a montante so this tutorial was really helpful for me (as I don't really know anything about handles...)
nice to see your video!
With approx 3mm cord, about what length do you need for a grip that size?
Thank you, great video!

I can accommodate that for you, but only because I like you, buddy.
@@BrittanySaintLeafy this victory will be remembered for the ages to come
I have some feedback from you as I'm taking media, I was randomly assigned this video, and your method of speech makes it sound like your talking with an old friend, while learning something, but comedic timing as well as continuous recording rather than the breaks would be much better, as the break sounds really disrupt the theme that your going for. Hope this helps, and gosh darn it Nix is so cute.
KITTY!
Is a 1.5mm thick twine too small to cord wrap?
I mean, you'll die of old age before you finish wrapping it :D
I've got a light colored cord around my hilt and it's gotten a bit dark, and I wanna potentially clean it so it's not as dirty looking. Any recommendations?
Is that sword home made , it looked it !!
Wonder if does such swords break in the crossguard part? almost no material there
Yes.
You could always run a line of dental floss up the length of the hilt and tape it to the sword before you cord wrap it, then when you finally get the cord almost fully wrapped, untape the end of that dental floss, tie said end around the end of your cord and pull it down through the cord.
where did you get all the parts for this sword?????? I have been exasperated looking for it?
I don’t think the hardware gets sold separately, but this synthetic longsword is from Purple Heart Armoury (www.woodenswords.com). If you want the rubber crossguard ends you can buy them from archery supply stores, and if you need just the pommel I would contact Purple Heart to see if they might sell it to you on its own. :)
@@BrittanySaintLeafy what it's name because I am having a hard time finding it on purpleheart
@@danielcarrillo4385 they have a whole section for synthetic longswords, if you search “synthetic” you’ll see several different kinds. The one in my video is an older pentii model.
Wrapping your grip with Hockey tape, UBER Canadian!!
Haha I’m surprised no one else caught how Canadian that was
Probably easier without help from your glamorous assistant 😸
Excellent tutorial! I’d love to do this to a few of my swords. What is the diameter of the cord you used?
I don’t actually know. The twine I bought didn’t have any type of measurements other than overall length. If I had to guess I’d say 3mm?
@@BrittanySaintLeafy Thank you, I’ll try this!
I Found this Channel Through Skallagrim and the Interview he did with You and Nicole Smith. Have you Ever Seen Shashka Sword Dancing? and do you think it would help with Sword Control At all?
I have seen it, never done it personally. I actually do thing that it would help with control, being able to move with the sword instead of against it is something a lot of beginners struggle with, so yes, I certainly think it would be helpful.
@@BrittanySaintLeafy Thats Awesome :) Thanks for the Reply :) Ill Let my friend know to do the Classes For Shashka Dancing :) Shes wanted to do it for a while now.
I prefer hema grip tape from woodenswords
I have a question. So I’m 6’2 and my arms are really long so I’ve found it’s hard to get the right leverage on my sword while using it. Should I get a longer sword with a longer handle to get better leverage or just keep practicing?
Edit: my current sword is 44” overall with a 9” grip and a 10” POB
Go raibh maith agat!
