    Super informatitive! I've been in the tax field for over 10 years (4years HR Block Tax Specialist, 4 years as an IRS Tax Examiner, and about 3 years doing taxes from home) since my Block days I've wanted to start my own official tax business, however, life has thrown me in other directions, so I've pushed my dream aside on several occasions. Now I'm an auditor with the US Govt, put I still dream of one day opening up my own tax business. Your video motivated me to pursue this dream again. Thank you!

    great vid, one thing I would recommend against though is setting an income goal. The goal should be to serve as many clients as you can handle, and then hire and train to scale. In any business, never reverse engineer your pricing or goals to the amount of money you need to make. Always charge what the market dictates, and always maximize time and resources, with that maybe 50k is done in a month instead of 4.

    • @rexhood4580
      @rexhood4580 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lisa Haney hello Lisa, I'm also an attorney who has practice rights in front of the u.s. Tax court. I hate to give you bad news but, enrolled agents cannot represent clients in front of the us tax court. tax court practice righta are limited to attorneys and cpas who pass a limited version of the bar exam. enrolled agents can however represent clients in front of the irs. As to how do I like it? it all depends on the company you are working for or if you are in solo practice. Be careful lots of shady companies who employ enrolled agents to do irs representation. If you want more specific information feel free to ask.

    The crap side of marketing is good for people just starting out. Going the social media route of marketing is for more sophisticated tax preparers who have had skin in the game for a long time.
    Before all of this, they should join VITA or work for a tax prep business like H&R Block to become educated and understand the business side of things.
    You can't move from point A to point Z in a few months and think you can start charging $1500 to real estate investors unless you went to College for Accounting, became a CPA or a Tax Attorney. Becoming an Enrolled Agent takes time too.
    There is also nothing wrong with people who are content with charging $200-$300 and doing 1040s for their entire careers. Low income households can be their niche. It depends on what you're comfortable with and your education level. I'd say $75,000 in a 4 month period is pretty good income. Someone can have 8 months off and just grind for 4 months out of the year if they choose to do so.
    If you can't even find 250 clients for $200-$300 a pop for 1040s in a city like mine with 2,000,000 people, then you shouldn't even be an entrepreneur. It's easy to find clients especially through word of mouth and recommendations.

    • @t.m.3769
      @t.m.3769 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pat L I disagree and here’s why.... With the Tax Reform the only people that are going to go to a tax preparer are going to be those looking for a Refund Advance or have more complicated tax returns. I would suggest limiting your risk with EITC clients and start going for the complicated taxes. More money and less stress.
      Just a thought. I’ve been in the game for 22 years. I’m no longer targeting the EITC market. People lie, give fake documents and the IRS is making the tax preparer do the “verification”/proof. School records, medical records, lease etc. nope 👎

    • @crystatyusea
      @crystatyusea  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bradley Forsberg Hi Bradley! Going for your EA would be more so just to gain the knowledge and have a deeper understanding of tax law as opposed to having another license. So I would say it’s a worthy goal to go after because it’s going to force you to study tax law. I have my business set up as an LLC with S Corp election. I pay about $30 month for errors and omissions insurance. It’s affordable and will give you peace of mind.

    • @crystatyusea

      Jessica Davila-Jasso hmmm that’s interesting. I wouldn’t recommend by hand as the tax code is so complicated. I wouldn’t do FREE for too long. You want to get paid even if it’s a low fee (which is still not recommended) but I’d rather you get paid SOMETHING than nothing at all.

    I have a question. I am interested in learning how to do Realestate taxes and Bookkeeping. I have little experience. Do you provide a course to show how to master these two objectives effectively?

    Very helpful video. Do I need to have a legal name for my business if I want to get an efin first, and where do I register my business, I'll appreciate your answer!

      When you apply for your efin, they ask for business name, address, phone number. Click on the link for more details on how to start e-filing. www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/become-an-authorized-e-file-provider

    what classes do I need to take in order for me to become a tax preparer? Do i have to get an associate or bachelor's degree? Thank you.

    • @crystatyusea

      MIKE GONZALEZ hey Mike! No you don’t need a degree you’ll want to study tax law and start practicing on some simple returns such as your own.

      @ Mike Gonzalez
      I suggest you take the free classes that the the big chain tax businesses offer such as Jackson Hewitt or Liberty Tax. They offer free courses. You just have to pay for books. Work for them for at least 1 to 2 tax seasons so you could learn how to prepare returns and know the business. Once you feel like you're ready to do your own thing, you'll feel more comfortable.
