The original "Great American Bash" tour in 1985 was billed as the "50th Anniversary of Jim Crockett Promotions Tour," so that is probably where the board game makers got the idea that JCP started in 1935.

It's not just because it's a game, but it is because this is wrestling history that we can learn "why" they are correct, or even incorrect from after Jim answers the card questions. Do I have to beg for crying out loud!? Okay, you got me...I'm on my arthritic knees here now, do I need to pucker my lips for you, too??? lol

for the years prior to Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Annual Awards, they based the winners according Victory Sports Series "Wrestling Annual" starting in 1973(#4) and up to 1981(for the year 1980). PWI started in 1982(March issue) to do their own Annuals.

PWI inherited The Wrestler awards from 1971 or whenever they started until its own publication began. I definitely remember them spelling this out in one or more of the Year-End issues.

I lived in mid south during its time and JYD was soooooooooooooo over … the guy could not go wrong and when he came out to another one bites the dust , the pop was HUGE !! He was beloved by everyone. Watching the little kids dancing to his music when he was coming to the ring was awesome. He was super over. Rip JYD

I kinda wish one of the weekly show Brian and Jim do was purely historical wresting, it’s way more interesting. I know there’s all the old shows covering lots of it but I could listen to old wrestling stuff all day…

In Austria Otto Wanz‘s „numerical literature“ achievements are still relatively well known among 40y/o and up. Not sure those people know about his wrestling activities.
This was a lot of fun. I was really proud of myself for getting some of the less obvious ones right, but about 90 percent of that is due to this podcast in the first place. 😅 Honestly the wrestling history is my favorite thing about this podcast, whether it's in the form of games, questions from listeners, or just Corny and Brian talking. I enjoy it way, way more than the reviews of modern wrestling.

Ya know, I think making some form of wrestling trivia game would be a good business opportunity for Jim. You could make a mobile app version and can update and expand it over time.

This was "not unentertaining". I love these and look forward to them. I try to guess as many as I can as Corny. I don't do too bad. Anyways, don't stop doing these kind of segments, keep 'em coming,they're hecka fun!! And looking at the comments I'm not the only one that thinks that. And who woulda guessed Ox Baker moonlighting as a ballroom dancer.💃💃💃

No they didn't, only the 1981 awards. The rest were in the Annuals.
I miss the times when guys like Gordon solie work doing commentary work and everything and made wrestling more real.

Senator Gary Hart of Colorado got "defrocked" twice in the 80's. First in 84 when Mondale asked him "Where's the beef?" and 87' when Hart dared reporters to investigate accusations of infidelity, and they found him having an affair with a girl on a yacht called (I shit you not) "Monkey Business." My dad worked on the first Hart campaign. His job was to entertain Mrs. Hart while Gary was away "on business..."
There were 2 big reasons that Mid-South took off in 1979: Bill Watts and his excellent management and booking skills; and the oil boom in Louisiana in the wake of the Middle East oil embargo. There was more disposable income in south Louisiana than there had been in decades. Watts took advantage of that.

From what I'm reading the magazine started in 79, but was giving the awards out in 1972 before the actual magazine.
This was one of my absolute favorite clips from these two. Love hearing wrestling history.

This was a Great segment! I Hope to hear more of this game in future episodes. This is by far more interesting and entertaining than reviews of shows I gave up watching Years ago.

I couldn't even imagine today's generation of wrestlers getting into bar fights. There would be a ton of news stories of wrestlers getting their ass kicked probably.

24:51 - I got one on Jim Cornette! He says Don "The Spoiler" Jardine wrestled Mil Mascaras at MSG In December 1972 with an open faced "hood" mask, but that's not true because Spoiler worked that entire 1972-1973 run in WWWF completely unmasked! He had lost a "Loser Leaves Town" match in Houston TX against Billy "Red" Lyons, during which he was unmasked so that he could work the New York City area venues without wearing a hood or mask at all, since they were so important to the WWWF territory as a whole.

I am surprised Cornette didn't say old women were more dangerous. At the house shows in the town I grew up in during his Mid-South days, there was some old lady that always sat front row in the same seat and she went after Corney everytime the Midnight wrestled. The JYD vs the Freebirds was huge even before JYD was "blinded". Also, the substance that JYD was "blinded" with was to be used during the hair vs hair match for removal of hair, but Hayes was about to lose so he put the substance in Dog's face.
