A standard 21700 isn't really that expensive. Like $4. We all know copper isn't cheap, and I assume a lot of the cost is simply the skill of the workers and the safety protocols when making these batteries. One mistake and the factory goes up in flames
I opened up a knockoff Ryobi battery. There was no insulation between the metal on the springs and the battery terminals. If the springs got out of position slightly, then you’d short out two cells. The springs were held in place with *masking tape*.

Always enjoy the vids. Over here in the UK we are very often the last country to receive new tech. With ref to the “tabless” battery they have been around for many years and the web is full of information on them. Even Tesla unveiled plans back in 2020 to develop a “tabless” battery and they now hold 2 patents on a tabbed cathode and a tabless anode. In the patent, they mention several times that the actual implementation may have tabless on both the covers or the ends of the battery cell. Cutting open,(especially when you don’t check its drained first. Poo in the pants lol) a battery is never the best and as you will know full of toxic noxious substances hence why batteries & particularly new batteries are very bad for the environments and largely non recyclable. There is a good illustration of the tables in the Tesla patents. You are spot on the Internet, is only a mere fraction of information the overall global datasphere reached 64 zettabytes in 2020 not even a fraction of the worldwide data available offline.
these are the first commercially available packs with tabless cells, it definitely is a new tech and tesla only had an idea in 2020 and they are using them now only in one model probably (they def weren't around for "many" years). so this video is very important especially because many didn't believe that makita actually used this new tech.
@@riba2233 They are not the first comercialy available by any means. It is well known tech. Tabless design was well noted by many battery industry observers when it came onto the market in 2009, Tesla have looked into the new battery design since it became public in 2009 maybe before then. They had the tech in research for a number of years before developing and now holding 2 patents on a tabbed cathode and a tabless anode they use on some car models since 2020. I don’t need to go into the list of companies that have and use tables but A few you may know Tesla, DeWalt, Ridgid , Makita , Bosch announced a new ProCore 18V+ cordless power tool battery that's engineered with tabless 21700 Li-ion cells back in Nov 2023. Some tool manufacturers have marketed tables late 2023 with many appearing on the market early 2024feb March. Trade shows in 2023 were sporting the new tech commercial. It may be new to some of the public but the technology is not new by any means.
If you had watched the video you would have learnt that Makita did it well before Bosch. Makita announced them at least 2 years ago and they came to fruition in Mid 2023. My first, in hand, video of the 1st Makita tabless pack was early September 2023.
