In this video I will show you how to make a dividend function with ONLY 7 lines of code! this function is clean and effective and there is no more relying on scraping data from sites that continuously change their code on us.
Here is the website to get the free API key: www.alphavantage.co/

I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my portfolio for retirement. I'm seeking to invest $200K across markets but don't know where to start.
The professionals presently control the market since they not only have the essential business strategy but also have access to inside information that the general public is not aware of.
@@NelsonHouse78 The reason I decided to work closely with a brokerage adviser ever since the market got really tense and the pressure became so much(I should be retiring in 17months) so I've had a brokerage adviser guide me through the chaos, its been 9months and counting and I've made approx. 650K net from all of my holdings.
@MichealHyde67 “Alice Marie Coraggio’’ You can easily look her up, she has years of financial market experience.
We need to refresh the spreadsheet in order to show the result or the API won't work. It looks like that API will show the yields only on common stocks but not ETFs, CEFs, ETNs, and Preferred stocks quotes (it shows 0% yield).
Many of the stocks I'm invested in don't show the dividend yield. I checked on "Seeking Alpha" & the stocks do show a dividend yield. Not sure what I did incorrectly, coding is correct as it shows on your video & some do show up. Stock Tickers that show 0.00% yield: CHMI, FSK, TWO, NLY, BKCC to name a few.
Thanks for the information.
same here
Weirdly malfunctions from time to time, data was appearing previously, then after awhile it bugs out and all the data disappears.
Even refresh doesn't work for the data to populate. Need to delete the code and re-enter and this is also not very certain since it works sometimes not all the time.
I just tried this code .But it does not work. The Div. Yield column remains blank. I have rechecked the code twice it is running with execution completed. what could be the reason?
Me 2 😢
Did you find dividend function in your sheet?
Me too as well. Things must have changed since the video was created??
It doesn’t work . Tried a million different ways and got ChatGPT to check - massive waste of time
This great info Keith. However, I noticed when I setup my api key, alpha vantage only guarantees 25 api queries per day. It appears to not be a hard limit, but I do have some 0% yields on stocks that definitely have non-zero yields.
Great video as always mate. Can you add ex-divinded and dividend dates as well?
This works for international stock market? As i live in India.
Thanks
tried but not working for indian stocks. no errors but in the last step in dividend yeild column its showing nothing.
This has been an incredible helpful video and saved to my playlist as well. Thank you so much for making such a simplified video. I am having a deviation of 0.5%-1% among most stocks (and I am looking at NASDAQ & TSX only). Hoping you can create an FAQ video for the same
It is working perfectly for stocks, but it is not working for ETFs is there a fix? for this. Cheers for your video.👍
I got a message saying "Google hasn't verified this app" and could not figure out how to get it verified. Despite that, I still learned a lot as I know nothing about coding or scripts. Really enjoyed it. Thanks
He shows you in the video how to get passed that 7:30
worked perfectly - is Ex Date available? I looked at the documentation couldn't find anything on dividend data.
Yield and Dividend not working for me, return 0 value, any fix? thank you for the video!!
Me too March 24
Not working here either.
Thanks for the video its worked .. have you got a video which shows how to do dividend amount instead of dividend percentage ? thanks & good luck
Excellent tutrorial - thank you!
Very concise and useful educational video. Thanks a lot for this!
I glad you think so!
Hi, great video. This is what I am looking for but I would like to use it for the Annual Payout instead of the Dividend Yield. Is this possible? What would I need to change to accomplish this? Thanks
add a column for share amounts and multiply by that cell in addition to what was shown.
Great video....straight to the point...No BS!!!
Thanks this works for stocks, but not for ETFs like FIVG or JEPI
Oh thats a shame!
I have been trying to do this for a long time. Excellent video. I really appreciate what you have done. It works perfectly.
It was a very nice video.
How can I get data for this formula and Turkish stocks?
Great video and solution. Is Ex-Dividend date available?
Hey, My execution was completed but still i couldnt find the dividend function in my sheet. Can you help me out?
Thank you so much! Indeed this is graet! Can you add the "Ex dividend day" also?
No problem! and that is a good question, I believe you can. I need to look more into how to use Alphavantage and the API. I'm sure there is a lot more that can be done with the API. I'll make a follow up video going more in depth with it!
Hi! dont see Dividend funtion. Have you got any particular configuration? Thanks!
For some reason, the value does not load when I run the function.. And I followed every bit of the tutorial. Is it because I am looking for Brazil stocks ?
been trying using your code for tickers on IDX like BBCA or ADRO to no avail. please help? maybe i need to add something to the code lines?
Worked great. Other than about 30% of the yields are not updating. I am trying to troubleshoot to figure out why
I had a similar issue. I'm thinking it's because the stock is listed on another exchange like the NASDAQ.
I do all the process with the apps script and is ok, but th dividend part in the table do not work.
THank you for this. The script seems to work fine. But when in the Sheets and I try to multiply by 1, the sheets puts an "value" error saying that "parameter 1 of the multiply function expects number value; however the result I get is not a number but text and cannot be transferred to number" - anyone can help what is wrong please?
doesnt work for in Argentina, for some reason
Can you get the Ex-Dividend Date with this API?
What can we do to display new symbols dividends, the function does not find them :
Good job. Thank you.
not working
cell showing blank
I get an 'Unknown function' error for the =Dividend(A2)*1 part????? Can someone help?
Tried using this and for some stocks it worked. But for others such as AAPL, ABBV, BTI, EPD, SCHD, VTI - no luck. Any recommendations?
This is a great video. I've been over the syntax twice and find no error. Everything was exactly as you described until I tried to use the App Script. It doesn't return an error. It return 0.00% for all ticker symbols, including those that i know have dividends. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks, Wil
I am having the exact same problem.
Me too 😓
Sir, can we get dividend details for Indian ticker from NSE also ? Thanks
Can you make a video how to see crypto closing prices or open prices?
I get an 'Unknown function' error for the =Dividend(A2)
presumably line 6 of that code could instead extract the dividend per share in $ and then be used to calculate yield more accurately using googlesheets share price. very backwards to start with yield to work out dividend per share like that. the divi per share is what gets set in stone by the company and we calculate our yields from that and the share price which fluctuates second by second.
Yep. Doesn't work for me. Tried the exact tickers ...nada
The API run with no problem but the spreadsheet is responding: Unknown function 'Dividend'. What could be the problem?
when i type =Dividend(A2) that cell shows 0 does anyone know why? Please help
Can the author, or someone, type out the lines of code so that I copy it and enter it exactly as as described in the video (of course, need to get a code and specify which stock/field)?
I followed the instructions and at the end I got the execution started execution completed message. I then went to the Yield and typed Dividend and the cell with the symbol so it looked like this =Divided(B7) and hit enter and I get the message Error Unknown function Dividend. Can someone please help What did I do wrong
Same for me
I had same problem than some how I fixed that but now cell is completely blank no error message either. Second thing is when you bring mouse over the function that time it says unknown function making me crazy.
@@obirlik68 Did you ever solve this? Having the same issue. Thanks!
@@dianawojcik3261 nope but I made a one page website, made a little search box using my api key be able to get all bunch of useful information about stock. Kinda gave up on this.
Very nice thing, formula is working fine for me, until I'll try to interact it with anything else. Any idea how to switch to american decimal separator? (my excel spreadsheet stubbornly expect comma instead of dot).
it loads the cell but then its blank?
Good tutorial, but alphavantage not supporting indexfunds and ETFs
You should confirm the accuracy. The numbers I am seeing for dividends are often wrong. Sometimes by a large amount. Also note this is limited to 25 requests a day so if you own more stocks than this, you are out of luck.
You just made my life SOO much easier. Thank you! I never subscribe to anyone, but you just earned it!
Some stocks will not show a dividend yield and I can't turn them into % so they're right now ...whatever actually worked 0.0312 which is not practical. Can you paste the code somewhere? I rewrote the code and it will not change anything.
Great video, but the script does not determine dividends for ETFs
How to make it defining not only for companies?
This is great!
Does not work for NSE stocks!
Good, but what about non-USA stocks? Doesn't work for that I see! But it's a help anyway :) And how to get the actual DIVIDEND value itself?
I only get three rows to work. After that, it is all zero yield.
Still not working.
I previously posted that it didn’t work now it works. I guess it took time. Thanks Great video
Nope, not for me
Still hasnt for me either
Great video thank you. for UCITS & ETFs no data is retrieved
any solution??
I created a list of 2023 dividend aristocrats in Google Sheets and tried this method. Out of 50 stocks, it returned the dividend yield for about half a dozen and zeroes for the rest. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
The free version of the API only allows 25 data requests per day.
Thank you for your reply! @@buddybrooks9659
Could you just add to the description the full code?
you know what we really need??? a better way to pull the ex dividend date. Finfiz stopped showing it and Yahoo keeps changing the tables. No table # seems to work on Yahoo as of June 2023.
I can tell you this tho if you get the api key if you find url goes with that api you can get so much information about that company I can say that can even tell you what color underwear ceo wearin lol
dont work
Followed down to the letter and doesn't work at all. I get 0.00%
Those who get blank cell or 0 there is no problem with code problem with how to add new custom function in to the google sheet. I think google sheet does not recognize the new function.
Update I made website I just a put little search box using my api key you can any us base stock symbol and gives you too much information about that company but I still couldn’t figure it out on google sheet 😢
to be fair, other tickers are working, but obviously can't be relied upon
Doesn't work
It now stopped working it put -0- in most of the dividend yield cells. It seems this program is not very stable or very reliable
Thanks but for me it did not work. I got a wrong message for line 2. I think the API key. Can you help me?
same thing happened to me, I'm trying to troubleshoot it. Quite frustrating.
I fixed it. Mine was missing an = before apiKey, make sure that's there
It's Not Working for me, does anyone has a solution?
the API has stopped working today, so, I don't see it is reliable, and I am switching to a different method.
Please make one for top 20 gainers and losers. thx
For me this works about half the time, some stocks they work, some they dont, and some that work now, in 5 minutes they will show 0%, its very unreliable
DOESNT WORK. IDK WHY
Only one problem. That function takes all dividend payments e.g. from January to July. But if we purchased only in the second quarter. And we received dividends only for one quarter. But that function shows us the total for the first and second quarters.
This doesn't work, it shows me 0% all the time.
This is frustrating as hell.
I just tried following to create a sheet for myself. The dividend function doesn’t work for. I did do the “run” and it executed with no errors. I reread the script and I don’t see any errors. What else can it be?
Shall I assume there is no support here but only at patreon?
Same here. The script run without any issue but the dividend function returned a blank value.
thumbs down for email farming half way through
How do you get this to work for the Toronto Stock Exchange(TSE), or any other exchange?
Looks like it doesn't work for TSX stocks...
You can pull the stock using TSE:BNS, but the yield won't work.
