Maybe not the MOST feature full synth, it it’s all so fully realized that the whole package is just amazing.

Theres no sequence button, and no animation graphics.... That would rule out the module version for me unfortunately, and the keyboard one wont fit my space. Someone wrote: "Reginald Braithewaite: Waldorf means *any* Waldorf." Let's leave aside the fact that the poster spoke ***only of the Waldorf XTk***, which is why I responded.
      The greatest synth companies in the world make missteps because that's part of the exploration that goes into creating new devices. If they didn't, we'd have nothing but copycat synths. The PPG was one of the first synths I ever used on sessions and I hope the Quantum will be one of the next. But Waldorf's R&D are not Zeus's pantheon! Besides, Zeus made tons of mistakes! Loving instruments by Waldorf doesn't have to mean defending everything they do or refusing to compare the features of a Waldorf with those of another company's synth. Whether the Phil's comparison of features and sound is *accurate* is another question! I would say not, but I'd have to hear both instruments side by side to know.

    I have the Argon8 and I like it a lot. The shift function can be a bit cumbersome, but much better than menu diving. Also the envelopes are way too fast on its slowest setting. I like very slow evolving sounds, so it’s a shame and I can only hope Modal can adjust them in an update. One thing to mention though is that there’s more under the hood than what Nick showed. For example there’s more than one filter and you can adjust patch gain from the synth as well. The two knobs next to the LCD are push encoders and you can navigate lots of deeper settings by pushing and turning them. For example you push the left encoder to select the line on the LCD and then turn it to navigate. The right encoder is used to change the selected setting.

    • @incompetentlogistics
      @incompetentlogistics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also regarding the sequencer: they really really need to implement step sequencing. The real time business is usable but a chore compared to holding down a step and then press the key/chord you want.

    • @SyntheticFuture

    • @SyntheticFuture
      @SyntheticFuture 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Detour1952 np =) What specifically are you planning to do? I think in many cases the Argon will have an edge over the Wavestate. Wave sequencing is pretty involved and harder to control. So where happy little incidents will be absolutely amazing, things might get frustrating and you may not easily dial in a more basic sound. In this case especially I would strongly suggest not basing your opinion just on reviews. Try to get hands on experience. Even if it's just a few minutes it will tell you more than any person can =)

    • @spintonik
      @spintonik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      AFAIK wavestate is about 6GB of internal samples, one sequences, mangles in many ways (or just plays in a very simple S+S way).
      Argon is about very short waves shapes, that are synthesized in many ways.
      Waldorf Microwave XTk (1998) is quite similar to Argon 8.
      Wavestate is very unique (in a hardware world, check SW manufacturer Output for very similar sounding plugins), but I am waiting very eagerly, what just released Nord Wave 2 can do!

      @dairebarefoot6763 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Synth Shoot I thought long and hard about your comment. Also listened to the video over and over, as well as checked out some sine wave tests on TH-cam. I do believe that sine waves are theoretically just fundamental tones however when being pushed through a speaker the waves begin to move air which is a little chaotic and the low end sine waves create harmonics that are perceivable. Once I heard sine waves in the mid range however I couldn’t perceive any depth or overtones. I’d imagine the lower end waves have the ability to rattle other objects and create overtones out of them indirectly. The point you bring up is so interesting.

    It has nothing to do with the Skulpt synth.
    The Skulpt is a virtual analog synth.
    The Craft Synth 2.0 is Argon 8s little brother.
    The Craft Synth 2.0 is a wave table synth with modifiers....

    good morning, I can receive your reflection on the two synths:
    argon8
    korg wavestate
    about my musical genre trance and techno;
    I have watched the videos for some time and not having the opportunity to try them in person, I ask you who are experts.
    I would like to receive a greater impression to make my purchase decision.
    thanks

      i dont know alot about either but i think the korg wavestate is a better choice - i also advise you to look at the korg minilogue xd - that will do amazing trance and techno - both genres i also make...

    4:30 onwards you talk about strange extra weight on a sine-wave you're not normally hearing. Well, thats how sine wave is not supposed to be. The extra "weight" is harmonics pure sine does not have - this thing plays too loud and distorts the output stage and even the pure sine wave sounds like playing through a overdrive pedal.
    Sounds pretty nice, though, similar to sound Elektron has - this distortion is not necessarily a bad thing.

    • @MrBothandNether
      @MrBothandNether 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you actually play one, or are you determining this from what you have heard on TH-cam.
      -and are you listening in gaming headphones or do you have studio reference monitors?

    • @spintonik
      @spintonik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBothandNether Hi, Sorry for a slow reply. While writing the feedback I was just listening the video. (by using a studio speakers)
      However I have now also tried it, the shop demo unit (while using headphones) did distort when the volume was at setting 17 (and upwards)

    • @spintonik
      @spintonik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Finally, What I noticed, is that Nick is using ready-made Init -patch locations at 4:00 onwards. Like I did. BUT, Loopop (in his video) is using a button combo to generate a Init patch and THAT does not distort! Sound ( at 8:25 in his video ) is very nice and pure - even FFT screen looks like it is supposed.

    Digital synths certainly have its place but damn do I wish some of the upcoming digital ones will be with VCF and VCA as a complement to give nicer character.
    Also, since synth manufacturers seems to like to put reverb into the synths, why not partner with someone who actually can make a good sounding reverb. Licensing should be a way to go. And then focus on what you do better than cheeky reverbs.

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      corner liston I think the reverb on the Argon8 sounds great! And not everything synth needs an analog filter. I think this one sounds amazing without it. And it allows them to more affordably add in various types of filters as well.
      Btw, Moog did the effects for the Moog One that way. They’re all Eventide I believe.

    • @cornerliston
      @cornerliston 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HotStrange I can't agree with you but that's just different taste : )
      Absolutely right about analogue. Some should certainly not have it to bring a lower price tag. But some should, as I wrote, “some of the upcoming…” : )
      Moog One has the reverbs from Eventide. Cleverly done.
      They know they can't do decent reverb by them selves so they went the clever route.
      Personally I never use internal reverb because of quality but it's good to have I guess. Done the right way ; )

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      corner liston The Argon8, Prologue, Minilogue XD, Elektron Model Samples, and Digitone, and of course Dreadbox synths, all have some very amazing built in reverbs. On the whole I definitely agree with you, though. The few I mentioned are outliers, and besides those few, I would tend to use outboard effects for everything else.
      Also, as you said, it all boils down to taste. I love a synth that’s not afraid to sound digital just as much as I love analog so it’s nice for me to see a 100% digital synth that sounds this good.

    • @cornerliston
      @cornerliston 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Internal reverb can sure have a place and some of the cheeky ones actually have a good cheeky sound. But just imagine how your synth would be with a couple of licensed algorithms from Valhalla.

    Been looking at this and came to the conclusion that the Blofeld can do a lot of the same and more, but the simple UI is really great.
    The FX on the Blofeld maybe isnt as good - But overall I think I will just keep the Blofeld.

    Nick, if you had to guess based on the feel... think there would be a way to hack the joystick and remove the springs? Pitch bend should snap back... weird to have “mod” snap too. Elektron AK did same thing and it was kinda silly.
