    I recently got a robo-dwarf and if it weren’t for you he’d probably be living in a tiny-tales cage and a wheel that’s much too small. But instead I have a bin cage with 600+ square inches of floorspace and a 7 inch wheel! I just got to hold him for the first time two days ago

    • @julietastllc
      @julietastllc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Same! My Syrian hamster used to have a princess tiny tales cage and a 4 inch wheel, when I started watching Victorias videos I realized I was giving my hamster bad care, I started buying new stuff IMMEDIATELY. Now he has a 12 inch wheel and a 600+ square inches of floor space too!

      Same, my dwarf used to live in a 30×15cm cage. Thanks to victoria now she has a 11 inch wheel and she lives in a detolf( 1,63m × 40cm ) [if u dont know how a detolf looks u can search on google ,,detolf hamster cage" kinda the size of a 90 gallon tank

    I've been banned from /hamsters because I told someone their cage and wheel were way too small 🙄 People only care about other people's feelings, not so much about the actual well being of the hams.

      Yeah, i once commented on a video ( a video where someone had 5 dwarfs in a plastic can) i told that person the propper care they had to do for the hamsters and they started texting me stuff like : ,,stop bullying" or ,,il report u for bullying me" the whole thing was about the hamsters not the bullying i never meant to bully that person, anyway yt banned me a week for bullying even if i just tryed to help and guess what? That person isnt banned and now they have 3 SYRIANS in a tiny tales. 0-0. Yt must do smt ab the animal abusers around here and those pepole must understand they are abuzive.
      I know it wasnt reddit but still tho, these platforms and thos epepole do nothing good

    video suggestion: eco friendly hamster care - i guess looking at second-hand enclosures (have to be big enough obviously), second hand tunnels and toys (and how to clean them), bulk buying bedding for minimal plastic wrapping (and possible composting afterwards), small eco hamster businesses (like Oakwood forest shop from insta doesn't use plastic packaging ect.
    brilliant video as always though, thanks so much for everything you do :)

    r/ hamsters is how I learned about you and I'm so glad! It was easier to watch your videos than read in sections them trying to explain what I needed to know. My son's hamster went from living in a tiny tales cage (going off of what I did when I was a kid with hamsters), bored, peeing and pooping where he slept, etc. to a 682 sq in DIY bin. The first morning, we found he did in fact separate his bathroom from his roaming and especially eating spaces, immediately began digging and is more willing to be petted by us. It's not quite right, but I am still adding little by little, and replacing some of the plastic junk from the original purchases. I wish I found you before we got him, he would have been happy as soon as we brought him home.

    The right version of the kaytee is because it's directly from the manufacturer instead of re-packaged to fit store eye catching style. It's typically used for bulk buys. I got two 50L bags from amazon and got the manufacturer style.

    I had 2 hamsters a really long time ago when I was 7 and they lived in a tiny tales cage. I did clean their cage, give them good food and veggies, played with them tons and really loved them. I learned in 2021 how bad of a cage i gave them and cried a lot. I wished I would have given them a better life and did the right research. Now with my new hamster vanilla has a 576 square inch cage, 12 inch wheel, sand bath, 6-7 inches of bedding and overall much better care. Thank you for insuring that my new hamster is living its best life 🥺💖

      Yeah I think people are too harsh when talking about Reddit. Literally all the pet subreddits I’m in have very nice people for the most part. If anything the meanest people are uninformed people asking for advice but won’t take it. It doesn’t happen most of the time either. Some people can get a bit annoyed as a result of how often we see bad pet care from people who clearly didn’t do any research, but that’s about it

    So I was in a live on instagram and someone brought your name up, because talking about bunnies, they want you to do a video about how much space rabbits really do need, why they need it, and what would life be like living in a small cage being a rabbit which is like what 20X bigger than a hamster.

      super dope that ur waiting until you can afford everything your hamster needs. just wanted to say in my experience hamster bites are made out to be a lot worse and more common than they really are, they never bite unless theyre a rare antisocial type of hamster and u annoy them or u hurt them on accident. ive only been bitten by 1 hamster out of the several ive adopted and it didnt even hurt. no clue how scared u are but u sound like uve done a lot of research and youll be a good ham parent so i definitely dont think ull have to worry about bites

    Victoria, I have an important video suggestion. Could you please talk about Canal do Tio Márcio? He's a semi popular Portuguese TH-cam channel that frequently and deliberately tortures his hamsters.. He bathes them, scares them, holds them wrong, houses them together, puts them in tiny small cages, and even puts them in jars and ties said jars to remote control cars and helicopters. The Syrian hamsters constantly look sick and have clumpy matted fur. The Dwarf hamsters scream whenever he goes near the cage.
    The main hamster he bullies is a Dwarf hamster named Newtinho, he squeezes him, trapped him in a box, let his cat hit him, and dropped him multiple times! Newtinho was crying and screaming the whole time..
    Multiple Portuguese commenters tell him he's bullying and hurting his hamsters, and how does Canal act? He says it's all "Pretend" and funny, and that he's been caring for Hamsters for years (Yeah right..), he even told someone to self harm themselves because they said he's abusing his animals.
    I really want TH-camrs to be aware of him.. He's horrible, takes criticism terribly, and mistreats animals.. Please cover him if you can, but.. I will warn you, it's really hard to watch..

I'm a little worried but after a long night of my hamster playing on the wheel its the next day I'm trying to make it happy with treats and putting my hand in there to let it eat out of it.

    omg the week after i first got my hamster i let her free roam in my bathroom cause my rats do it so i figured it would be safe for her but she found a hole under the cabinets and i thought she was gone forever but it was just a little crack that led no where and after offering some broccoli and raspberries she came out💀

      Ooh man! Yeah definitely have to look very carefully around rooms to make sure there’s no holes! My bathroom had similar holes under the cabinets but thankfully my Syrians are too big for them but I covered them anyways!

    I want to tell you that sadly enough most dwarfs that are being sold by breeders and also shops are actually hybrids for the most part, There is maybe only 1 person that breeds so-called purebreds, but I have seen more of these and I ended up having a hamster with genetic diabetes. So the whole line was ended. So when a person breeds with hybrid doesn't mean it's an unethical breeder. If a person has purebreds they come from a lab. They have natural behavior, which means they are not tame and not bred to have more tame behavior. Hybrids are not unhealthy by the way. I have had many hybrids. Since all breeders here have hybrids. American breeders don't want to hear this. I have had discussions with them and they blocked me, but I know for a fact that my country that also sells "purebreds" to other countries are actually hybrids. What they try to do is breed them back to look as pure as possible, BUT THEY ARENT PURE(there is Campbell dwarf blood in the line somewhere).
    The problem with black dwarfs is a completely different discussion. There has been inbreeding going on to get this black color more. We know that blacks and Russian blue dwarfs have more parkinson. I must say that these petstore American hamsters do look worse than the hybrids we have here for some reason. That must be because of the bad selection out of the hamsters. breeders would usually choose a hamster for breeding that has the right health, built, and character so the babies will get the right genes if that makes sense. You breed to get hamsters that are good pets but also you want a healthy line for obvious reasons, for example, you don't want genetic diabetes in your hamster family line.

    • @VictoriaRaechel
      @VictoriaRaechel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean there is more than one they just are definitely not common. 😊 breeding hybrids is unethical because of the health concerns they can have such as neurological issues, prone to diabetes and can have aggression problems. It’s not ethical breeding two species that were not meant to be bred together.

    • @-_YouMayFind_-
      @-_YouMayFind_- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VictoriaRaechel The funny thing is that there is only 1 confirmed purebred breeder in the USA. In my country we have 1 that does not proof to the clients that they are actually purebreds the rest are definitely hybrids since all these hamsters come from the breeders in Europe. I know for a fact that these are hybrids. Even the ones that look pure are not. And these so called purebreds were the ones with diabetes because I had one. While all my hybrids had nothing so its not true actually. Hybrids do perfectly fine as long they are bred properly. The problem more is inbreding of purebreds or hybrids to get specific colors. Is it good to be breeding hybrid no if not everyone was breeding hybrids for color in the past we would have had purebreds right now. The problem is the campbelli gene is already in there genetics.

      It’s not really the best for a couple of reasons, the first ingredient is Timothy hay which hamsters don’t need in their diet (unlike rabbits and Guinea pigs), it also lacks a lot of variety with the majority of it being pellets, and it’s protein level is quite low!
