My daughter is 21 and she recently lost her sight due to a medical condition. She loves murder, mystery and all things dark and twisted. Lol. We just found your channel about a month ago. And you are now her favorite story teller. She says the way you explain it, she can actually picture it in her head. She and I are huge fans. Thank you.

One thing I've learned from Mr Ballen's stories is that, when a kid disappears in nature, you need to search in a radius of at least 40 miles to find them.

@sandra caraveo I never realized people would find my life interesting, to be honest. The last year or so with covid keeping everyone home more than usual eventually led to me breaking out a few of my favorites
They were very well received, so I'm leaning towards writing a book, to see if their are enough lunatics out there to support it
      :)
I grew up on our large Texas ranch, dad was a fighter pilot (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) 3 out of 4 brothers were military pilots and later airlines. I was a fighter pilot, bush pilot, corporate pilot, research pilot, airshow pilot...loved any job the second word of which was "pilot".
I also spent over a decade in law enforcement, of course. Lots of weird stories there.
      I even have one err...ufo?...story.
I hope it all comes together. It would be interesting hearing (positive) reactions to my life experience.

I don't know your background, but I did my best to simplify the aviation dialogue and the tac-air atc coms. In fact I left out much of the radio chatter altogether, if you come from an aviation and/or military background you could probably guess at everything said and have 90% of it. I included anything germane.
I'll find it and link or paste it here. It's pretty boring for a ufo tale. Sorry. 🙃

Finding the missing person's boots set nicely by a tree has definitely become a theme in these missing 411 cases

    • @dot620
      @dot620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +210

You're feet warm up quicker by a campfire then you take your boots off, anyones guess why they never put them back on after, maybe frostbite makes it too painful/clumsy (and actually thawing out your feet like this after frostbite is probably excruciating) so realising their feet are too far gone anyway they give up and go barefoot. Another thing that often gets forgotten is snow blindness, altitude sickness and the neurological effects of stress and shock.

The thing that always strikes me about these stories is that people say they looked away for only a minute. People suck at telling time. I've been in my apartment, with clocks in every room and thought I'd been doing something for a minute or two, only to realize it was more like 5. Whenever I hear these stories I double or triple how long people say they looked away for, and suddenly a disappearance becomes far more plausible.

@@jennycasakadosh Say, what you will, but I think most of them are pretty rational. Like, it'd be a different story if it were a child, but a lot of these disappearances involve experienced individuals. In a way, knowing that these individuals are experienced, gives people comfort that they know what they are doing, hence people fall into a false sense of security. And you have to understand, things don't always go as planned, especially while being outdoors, and things like travel can get delayed for hours or even a day or so, and that's completely normal. I would never say they don't give a f*ck, because to me (I'm not American btw), as someone who lives far from cities, and is used to schedules changing and people getting where they need to go later than expected; it seems like a pretty normal response. And a lot of these people report the incident like a few hours to a day after it happened, so again, it's pretty rational.

  • @evie133

I think people rule out the possibility of mental illness too easily in some of these stories. Depression can be pretty much invisible to onlookers, and when someone wants to die but knows how it could hurt their family, going "missing" can seem like an easier option. I can see how Aaron Hedges could have been silently struggling, he knew the mountains like the back of his hand and he would know exactly where to go to not be found.
I've suffered from major depressive disorder for years and I know how the lows can just hit you sometimes.
Putting myself in Aaron's shoes, I can see him going back to get his gear and then making a split-second decision when the depressive episode hit. The way his bag and shoes were found in clear view of safety, I can vividly imagine what it would have been like. Sitting quietly under a tree, looking out at the lights of the ranch and taking in the view of civilization for the last time. Taking off your shoes is a symbolic gesture of suicide in Japanese culture, or he could have been trying to make it harder for himself to backtrack if he decided not to go through with it. So he'd leave his stuff behind and then curl up in some nook or cranny, and his remains wouldn't be discovered until an animal drags them out, which is why it took so much longer to find him.
I do think something odd could be going on in the mountains (they're a weird place, I've seen some shit in the Adirondacks) but I also think a good chunk of the disappearances can be attributed to some poor soul who just didn't want to be found. Even when their family and friends assures that the person was 100% happy and loved life, you can never really know what goes on in someone's head.

I have a theory about Terrance. I grew up near those mines, there is still a very high level of toxicity in the dozens of old slag piles, right there. I think he went crazy from chemical poisoning left in the environment. Not to mention the natural sulfur and other chemicals near the geothermal pools in the area. One giant toxic sulfur deposit exactly near where he was..... also at least 5 big old mines on crooked river. The most logical environmental causation position is the amount of chemical left in the area.

The effect of toxins on humans isn't studied via experimentation (for obvious reasons), so who knows, it could be you expose 1000 people to the same toxins and most of them develop expected things like cancer or what have you, but for some of them their brain gets damaged in such a way that their mind just snaps.

I've watched almost all of your videos and I have to say my jaw DROPPED when you mentioned Tofino. Haven't yet heard a story about where I live. And you're absolutely right about it being one of the smallest towns on Vancouver Island! Nowadays there is a lot more tourism and a rise in population but still a secluded area, hard to go missing. The only thing I can think of is there are many hidden caves along the beaches and sometimes even in the forests (which are extremely dense.) Despite it being a small area, there are many nooks and crannies that a person can hide in. Also, unfortunately around the judding rocky islands along the main beaches of Tofino, there are extreme currents that can sweep you out to the ocean in an instant. Unfortunately, there are many who have drowned and bodies that have never been recovered because of the riptides. And mind you, they are not too far from the shore. One slip off the edge and you can be swept away all the way out to sea. What a tragedy, my heart goes out to these missing individuals. Thank you for doing your part in bringing awareness to these cases and also reminding people to be extremely careful, wherever you go no matter how skilled you are. Anything can happen.

As a former 0311, I had some disturbing incidents at Camp Lemonnier that were silenced. I have photos(digital and disposable camera) and tried to file reports that were ignored and I was summarily punished for. This ended in a ton of issues with members of my platoon, but my fire team always believed my claims. I have pictures taken through the FLIR on our 240G that cannot be disputed. I appreciate your open mindedness to things that cannot be explained and what needs further explanation. Keep in mind, this was around 2004-5 and minds were more significantly closed than they are now. You have encouraged me to revisit the “environmental interactions” that took place during this particular deployment. Thanks for helping me put the shame aside and look from a different perspective. In the first story, I suspect that it wasn't Aaron that responded on the radio. It was his killer. It's unlikely that he would have wound up so far away from his intended destination, given his familiarity with the area.
The only reason he might do so is because either he is somehow inebriated or because he was withholding something from his friends (such as having a secret cache with drugs or something he really wanted to get without being judged).
I think that while Aaron as away, someone attacked him and then pretended to be him on the radio to throw them off and possibly buy time to escape or hide the evidence.

Could've been a stroke, or some other kind of health event. Just something to make him lose cognition a bit, but still be able to speak.
I doubt it was someone impersonating him. Someone who had just killed him wouldn't know his voice or cadence of speech. If it was a killing, much more likely that either they kept him as a hostage briefly, thus allowing him to use the radio to reassure his friends, or that he wasn't attacked until after the first radio transmission.

I’ve noticed a similarity about children in a variety of types of cases. Here are some of the situations: A girl is abducted on a route between her home and another house or place she has gone many times. This one time it was dark, or this one time she was alone. In those cases there were abductions and murders. In other cases, parents tell their kids to go, right over there. But the parents turn their back assuming the kid can of course walk over to grandpa, or down a path back to the bathroom. Then there’s one of a handoff between parents, where a girl walks away from one parent toward the other, and a woman grabs the girl as she passes by in view of the parents.
In all these situations, there’s an assumption that the kid is going to follow the simple path, immediately, and that the area along the path is safe.. None of the accounts were written to blame the parents. It’s just my observation that sending a child somewhere could be done more safely if an adult is with them. For example, drive them to the friends house; walk the toddler over to Grandpa.

      There are several things David Paulides recommends when going camping/hiking/hunting/fishing : 1) never go alone. BUT if you do always have a personal locator beacon. ALWAYS;
      2) tell people where you're going, when you'll be back; 3) if someone is with you and they say they're tired or feeling sick, DO NOT LEAVE THEM ALONE (point of separation); 4) if on a hike, don't be the last in line; 5) don't run ahead of the group even if the topography is flat (point of separation). You can read all of these things in David's books but he has a TH-cam channel. Usually on Wednesday's and Sunday's he talks about specific cases of the missing. He also recommends you share his info on Facebook, with friends and family. We all need to be aware of what is happening. Oh and just a FYI - the Federal Forest Service claims they don't keep records of people who go missing in their forests. David tried to get a list thru the FOIA and was told they don't keep that info. BUT if they did it would cost thousands of dollars to get it.

Often called Devil's this, or Devil's that. Reason being is that Native Americans named these places things like this for a reason. Because they knew something wasn't right with these places, and that was their way of ward people off. It's not a coincidence that strange things happen at these places with weird and sinister names.

From Australia, after watching Mr Ballen, I have learnt hiking in the U.S. or Russia is very dangerous and likely to end you up as a Mr Ballen story. The first story about Aaron Hedges, I thought maybe he spotted a predator and had to go the wrong way to avoid this predator? But then why is his stuff near those people's property. Bigfoot.
There was a land bridge between north America and Russia.
Theres thousands of native tribes all over the world literally. Asia. India. Canada. Australia. United States with drawings, hieroglyphs, paintings in caves about sasquatch, or yeti, or skunk ape, or yeren , or tower. Their in poems and songs from thousands of years ago. Add that to the fact tons of video evidence and stories and pictures all over the world.
Next look at the fact their a primate. Large. Intelligent..strong. fast. And smarter than you in the wild. Their an apex predator.
Add that to the fact they use INFRASOUND like grizzly bears or lions or tigers would to paralyze and confuse and dissorient their pray.
Add that to the fact there's photo and video evidence of them with what looks like children.so they probably have been reproducing and it's estimated theres anywhere from 30 thousand to 60 thousand sasquatch just in Canada and north America alone if not more in our casts forests parks etc.....and the rest writes itself.
Add that to there's beats found huge nests that a primate would live in out in the middle of nowhere and this shit just makes so much sense you'd have to be crazy to think it was anythi g else.
Add that to the sounds they make the gutteral whoops and screams and apelike sounds that have been recorded in Canada and the United States by towners and natives on the Rez.
Add that to the amount of footprints and casts and unidentified hair that doesn't match any animals found in North America.....
I mean I could go on and on but that's what your missing 411 is.

Terrence was one of my high school friends. We would hang out and play in a jam band together. One of my TH-cam videos from 2007 or 2008 has Terrence playing guitar in it. He was always very grounded and according to people who kept up with him was completely mentally stable. Him running into the woods was uncharacteristic. His father, and I as well, believe there may be foul play involved, possibly from the people he worked with. All we have was their bizarre report. The police gave up on the search way too quickly as well. I and a lot of folks that went to school with Terrence donated to his father's Go Fund Me to pay for a P.I. but I don't know what came of that. We're all still hoping for the best.

Strokes often destroy your ability to speak or greatly lessen it. FFS! Should have sent someone out immediately! She likely suffered a stroke and wandered, cognitively impaired and confused until she died of exposure somewhere in the wilderness. There are forms or dementia caused by vascular strokes too. Horrifically ignorant or stupid people trying to make this into some grand mystery instead of an obvious case of an elderly person suffering a common medical issue.

Aaron taking his boots off is probably the most easily explained part. You’ve been to survival school you should k is that if it’s freezing out and you step in a puddle or otherwise get your feet soaked your first priority becomes getting them dry. His boots were found neatly placed next to a fire. Just sounds like an outdoorsman who got his feet wet and was trying to avoid hypothermia. As for why he left without the boots maybe he got scared away by a large animal.

“Large Animal” that brought back his stuff and placed them neatly, even taking a sip from his energy drink, and then later his remains are found. People are too afraid to say it, because society has been conditioned to laugh at who the culprits are. Just say it. It’s starts with a “B”.
I can tell you this. The forest park rangers and the government know exactly what’s up. They know what’s out there, but they stay hush hush.

@@garythompson5316 I won’t rule out the idea that some would do it for sport. But I’m of the opinion that many of them are just extremely territorial and don’t tolerate humans in their area. A lone hiker, camper, hunter out smack in the middle of no where neck deep in the woods is extremely at risk.
Some are opportunistic and will nab someone including a child if it’s within range and it can get away undetected. These things are masters of the forests. They hunt deer and elk with their bare hands, which are some of the most skittish and hyper aware animals out there, so a mastery of stealth and agility is fundamental. Human targets are child’s play to them.
They return the clothes or items not so much to taunt I don’t think but also more so as a warning, to stay out. There are stories of folks who have been chased out or have barely escaped them. They don’t mess around.

Bigfoot doesn't explain the sudden changes in weather or dogs not being able to pick up a scent. Or people being found in places already searched and in places that would be impossible for them to reach. Why are just about every 411 case where the persons' body is found they are found without boots or shoes? Or their boots are often the only thing they do find. Why are their bodies almost always found in or near bodies of water? And 411 cases are happening in urban areas as well as forests. The Aaron Hedges story is so heartbreaking. He was so close to safety. So close. He was obviously experiencing severe hypothermia when he took his boots off. It shows how tough he was and how determined he was to survive that he managed to walk 6 miles in that snow storm without boots on. Once people are taking clothing off they are very far gone and are usually found near their discarded clothes. This guy was tough, to make it 6 more miles. By the time he got to that homestead he was just out of steam. He was probably delirious, who knows what kind of delusions he was having at that point. He might not have even understood what he was seeing, that it was a home, safety. So sad he couldn’t make it that last mile.

I mean I have been in -19 weather, you aren't walking 6 miles with no shoes on in 2 feet of snow at least half way up your calves would be in snow... I dont get why every story clothes or shoes or some type of items are so perfectly placed and just left... Spenser Swain ...It was hypothermia. His clothes/boots were found in one area, his body found miles away. Maybe he started a fire, but it went out and he was unable to get it going again and that’s when hypothermia set in near that fire (why his boots were found there). Maybe he was having a medical event, like stroke, or heart attack, or mental health issues, so wasn’t in his right mind. Who knows. But in that kind of whether, with his boots off, he definitely died of hypothermia.

There’s a lot of very pertinent information conveniently left out of DP account of events that would explain this as not unusual at all and certainly not meeting the supposed missing 411 “criteria”. I’d have to see some facts about that and I can’t understand why the sheriff would cover if someone they don’t know. It’s sad but you have to use ever single fact about the person and again it’s amazing his own buddy doesn’t mention it. Aaron's disappearance isn't actually that mysterious. They left out of the story a very important fact: that he was a bad alcoholic, and he didn't bring enough alcohol while on the trip and went into DTs. Someone detoxing from alcohol will get so disoriented they don't know if they're outside or inside, let alone whether they're lost in the woods or not. They could be steps away from safety and have no idea. Detoxing from alcohol is very intense and completely ruins a person's orientation, rational thought, and basic understanding of anything going on around them. Without medical intervention people can die from alcohol DTs, and thats without an extra factor like being out in the freezing cold wilderness.

Off topic: your backdrops/backgrounds are absolutely phenomenal, and probably the most well made, realistic ones I've ever seen.

one thing to keep in mind regarding these cases: People suffering from severe hypothermia often reach a point where their brain is barely functioning. Along with things like paradoxical undressing, this can lead them to not process important information. In some situations, people have walked right across a road when lost in the woods and severaly hypothermic. They don't think to follow the road or wait by the road for help - they just keep moving forward. This explains why someone wouldn't recognize that they're at the edge of someone's property, for example. This doesn't explain all of these bizarre cases but it can shed some light on some of them.

Yep. Funny how Paulides never once gives this any meaningful consideration. Wouldnt sell books I guess. And yet it is the most logical and scientific explanation.

@@kitfisto1827 and no, it’s really not. Considering the man knew the crazies inside and out, he wouldn’t have gotten that bad hypothermia THAT quickly to the point he made such an obvious error with the path. I think a more likely option Is that the man was killed, and someone stole his radio and dumped his body. It would also explain the thermos and energy drink facing the residence. That wasn’t the hiker that was drinking from the thermos

@@kitfisto1827 funny how you get hypothermia while hiking in the summer

The first story the weather on the crazies was warm and the trail was clear and visible. It wasn’t until a few days into the search that a bad storm rolled in. A lot of these stories are of people going missing during the summer in warm weather. So hyperthermia is not the cause. Plus it takes time for hyperthermia to set in, it’s not instant.

I wonder if David has a map marked with all the disappearances and date stamped. I feel like a big percentage is in September. I like to speculate there is something that is causing the minds of people to go somewhere else. In kinda a lost trance. Maybe they see something different in there mind. And the clothes. So many cases of people having articles removed
