I have a Mark V Shopsmith, and I use it almost daily. Where did you obtain the pen mandrel for the Shopsmith?

What are the two black things on your bottom way tubes?

I would guess counterweights for spinning large/heavy objects on the lathe.

Very cool. I have the pleasure of being the first subscriber to the channel Clickspring as well, so here’s hoping you have similar success. Scott

Oh yes. I worked for them for about 12 years and purchased my first 510 back in 1987. You could say I’m a fan.

MrToolhunter 1987... that was a good year - that’s when we were born :). This 510 was my grandpas, he hated it but I always loved it. Upgrade the tables to 520, and found a jointer on Craigslist which was a rust block but was able to restore it. It is one of my favorite tools, just want to get a few more attachments like the band saw and the belt sander - far and few between though needing restoring (love restoring things).

I think anyone that owns a ShopSmith knows how to put it into the lathe mode, it's not rocket science
