The Rock and roll animal band was phenomenal. Mostly bad sounding bootlegs. But it was all we had.

That drum work on White Light White Heat is MVP. I like the hardcore proto-punk sound they arrive at by the time the Rock n Roll Animal / Academy show came together, but this is the overall era with the best iteration of this track, no question.

This show was actually a train wreck. Amazing that it even sounded this good. The Copenhagen show was the next night, and THAT sounded vicious. No pun intended.

I don't know what happens at the intro of Vicious but it seems they wanted to play it different but the bass player , in my opinion , did't understand it and played some 'free jazz notes ' 🙂

LR was at his best between 1972-74…. But slowly went downhill after that…sadly.

@@jameskennedy721 SH could have been big if it wasn’t for the bad production! His producer quit half way through after an argument with Reed; and moved to another studio, and it became messy.
Most of those songs had to be recorded live, and the background audience sounds were all subtracted from the soundtrack because his record label Arista did not allow for a live album in the contract. Only the song street hassle was done in the studio because he ran out of time.
If SH had the same production as Transf or Berlin did… it might have been a masterpiece for Reed. It got some attention early on but then flamed out fast. That was his last album with Arista.

@@Slo-ryde I didnt know about the problems with the sessions . To me its the last album he did that is interesting all the way through . After that , I have to skip around to find songs I like , and I got the impression he was making albums he didnt want to make .

@@jameskennedy721 that is true; many of the record companies did not want to touch LR after the 70’s…so in order to get signed on, he had to make music that was more mainstream, which he didn’t like but had to do…. And did have some success and made the charts in the late 80’s with his NY album…but that was the end of it for him.

If he doesn’t sing the recorded melody, I really don’t see the point. That’s not how the song goes.
