  • At 2018 worlds we placed 6th in qualifying and won the Amaze Award. We lost in elimination by 2 points, but it was a fun final season for us. Many people asked us about our design, so we decided to make the design public.

    Hey team dreadnought, I was a team captain on 8756M for the competition Tower Takeover… this video was very informative! I built several variations of a cascade lift based on your video and have feed back for all versions. 1.5” C channels were definitely the way to go… grease too with plastic spacers. Used 3 motors for the new generation and it was very fast and reliable. Y’all gave me information to make the best robot our school has ever had and the happiest memories I’ll have forever. That robot we built won multiple awards from excellence to tournament champions. It’s a shame Covid ended our season short. Thank you so much for sharing this video. It has forever lived in my heart ❤️

    Very good!. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. I enjoyed meeting you at worlds and seeing your bot in action. I was disappointed that you did not make the round robin. Your round of 16 may have been the highest total score of the tournament and decided by only 2 points. You all had an excellent year. You are exhibit 1 for why we should have best of 3.

    Really helped in understanding it and thank you for showing the front of the robot. Instead of just one chain there are two for each gear and are wrapped around as well as screwed in with two pillow bearings at each side. Allowing it to translate upwards

    Hey guys, My team and I saw your guys lift it is actually great. Its was so cool that for the next game we decided to begin building one. so far we have a simple concept. But we plan on making it more complex over time obviously. So its sad that you guys are leaving but I am just saying you've inspired so many people my guy its appreciated.

      also we were wondering what would you choose v5 on this lift or just the regular ones.

      Even from my limited experience with v5, I highly recommend v5 motors for any build including this lift. You should only need one or two v5 motors. Thank you for the kind words and be sure to share a video of your cascade, I would love to see how it turns out.

    I'm actually working on making a size reduction on this lift, to make it fit on one side of the robot, with a catapult on the other side. Once finished, I think I'll have a full power robot, and I plan on taking videos and showing as i go.

    Hi! Was researching for rover ruckus ideas to latch on the lander and to also get off of it. This is the only "linear slide" that is mecanically capable of pulling the robot up, but also getting it down in autonomous, right?

    What's the diameter on those spacers that you laser cut? I don't have a way of laser cutting so im trying to find somewhere that sells them in that size. Love the design of this lift.

    Do you only latex tube the first 2 stages? Cause I don't see the tubing on the higher stages

    Hey, im building a robot for one of my classes and we were inspired by your video. We have started to build a basic cascade lift although we have come across as problem, the way our sliding mech works is not very efficient and sometimes gets stuck. we basically need a new way of getting the stages to slide and im wondering if your able to help us.     Hey! I'm new to VEX EDR and Turning Point will be my first season☺️. We were thinking about building a cascade lift from the very start but we have no idea how to build it😶😅. If possible, do you have any CAD models of the lift? It would be extremely helpful for us and we would really appreciate it. Thank you!☺️👍

      Dillan Shah we didn’t cad model our exact lift, but there are many 3D modeled examples online that demonstrate how cascades work. This video on vex forums also has pictures of the lift.

    would it help if we put rubber bands at the top of stage one connected to the bottom of stage 2 instead of the latex? We are definitely using this for turning point by the way

      The Rad Pandaman, rubber bands like that would help, but the reason we had the pulley was to keep the force more constant through the lifting motion. When the lift is down bands are likely at least 3x stretched meaning thrice as strong. It will be too strong at the bottom and too weak at top. Pulleys change that to about 1.5x the strength at bottom. Hope that helps, good luck with turning point!

    Hey, guys. Thanks for making a great video for the cascade lift. I just had one question regarding the laser cut spacers required for building the cascade lift. In the video, you guys said that you can buy the spacers. I would just like to know where we can buy the spacers as my team is trying to build the cascade lift for the new game; Vex Turning Point. Also, i just saw a comment that you can buy the spacers on McMaster. I would like to know the part number of the spacers that we can buy from McMaster. Thanks.

    Can you point to the rule that says it is legal to buy the thinner spacers? I'm having trouble finding it.

      Volpidash2770 it’s the rule that says any commercially averaged screws washers or nuts

      The thinnest spacer on mcmasters that fits the VEX 8-32 screws are 1/4" thick, which is actually a little thicker than their special spacers but should still work.

    Do you think if you cut it in half vertically it would still be viable with 2 motors (1 top 1 bottom?) or is having 2 motors on each side and and top and bottom essential.

      ill be using v5 motors if that makes a difference

      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "cut in half vertically" but v5 motors have 2.5x the torque at the same rpm, so 1-2 motors will be all you will need.

      Mc Master Carr sells them... I bought some this season... make sure you get the plastic ones! We tried both aluminum and plastic.....

    Hi this is team 2602G, we were thinking of using a cascade lift in this years game, however, when prototyping your design, we struggled with making the second stage chains turn in order to lift third stage. I noticed you had some sort of connection between the second and first stage as well as second and third that allowed third to go up, however we can’t see what it is. Can someone please explain 😭😭😭😭

    My team built this for tower takeover, it’s really good and it’s the fastest robot at towers and we have a claw that can currently hold 3 and soon 6 cubes. Check us out on vex via (8756M) 3rd competition was when it was done.
