I can't blame Brook if he takes the most money he can get and is done sacrificing for us when we've already won.
On the other hand Kris did actually sacrificed money to stay cause most guys at his age-level seek to secure 4 year deals which pays more on the total. Imagine if we had to pay a 36 year old Middleton 30 milion $, everybody would be pissed at the GM. Let alone, he now is a trade asset too in case it doesn't work on the floor, next off-season a lot of teams would be attracted to such a player that's tied to a 2 year remaining deal, rather other veteran stars who have long term deals left...
Khris Middleton did take a cut. He could have counted 40, against the books this year, and he could have told the Bucks you give me the max or I'm gone. Khris had all the leverage, because the Bucks wouldn't have been able to offer this money to anyone else in the FA pool. It was Khris or nobody. 3 years at 102m is pretty fair. Some people talking how it's an overpay again - but in truth - EVERY contract Khris has ever signed by the Bucks - he's outperformed it. I mentioned many years ago elsewhere that Khris has an old man style game - it's not really reliant on athleticism, and as such it's going to age very well. We saw it again in the post season last year - he was back to looking like Khris, unfortunately Giannis was hurt, Bud forgot how he shut down Jimmy in 2021, and he also forgot to put Khris as the closer. That being said, in hindsight the comment feels silly. Houston drove the price of Brook Lopez up, and the Bucks paid him anyways. 2 years, 48m. He's not sacrificing anymore. It also shows the current ownership group is indeed, willing to pay the max penalty in luxory tax. Not sure how the economics of the deal works out and how the Bucks could even offer that level of contract, but that's for their cap experts to sort out.

We can sacrifice Jrue and Portis, who can offer something better? We'll definitely get a first-round pick for Portis. No excuses, if this opportunity is missed and everything isn't done to make it happen, it's a discredit to the Bucks.
