Why aren't they wearing Kimono
@@shifujikafan3720 Because kimono is originally a samurai family costume. In the olden days, the imperial family was the representative of the Kuge(court noble), so instead of wearing a kimono, they were dressed in Heian costume.
But women's Heian costume weigh about 20kg, which makes it hard to walk. And it's also very hard to carry and manage costumes. So they don't wear it except for traditional imperial ceremonies.
Kimono is known around the world as one of the representative costumes of Japan, so they sometimes wear it when welcoming VIPs.
But in recent years, the Empress Emerita
(former Empress) has stopped wearing kimono. The reason is that she thinks that if the Emperor Emeritus Akihito was about to fall, she would be able to support his body immediately. Western clothing is easier to move than kimono. Whenever something dangerous happened to the emperor Akihito, she has been guarding him immediately than anyone else. You can see it in other videos.

As a supreme leader of Japan during the war, when his army lost in battle, he should suicide like many of his generals army did. Die under his kanata as a real samurai like his ancestors, shouldnt live like a coward and die on bed because of illness. Japanese may feel same for him.
