The language here is Amsterdam Jewish dialect - sort of Jewish-Dutch similar to what Yiddish is to German. Fabulous group.

Actually it's mostly standard Yiddish mixed in with Dutch--but this is complicated, because Amsterdam Yiddish cross-pollinated with Dutch, a working-class dialect called Plat-Nederlands, and a sort of underworld dialect called Bargoens. But the music is simply lovely. By the way, is this the same Sighet that was Elie Weisel's birthplace? The irony...

thanks for the details. I love the sound of that language ! I think that Sziget is different from Wiesel's Sighet.

The Amsterdam Klayzmers are a terrific music ensamble, the crowd is great but as much as I'd love to,I won't add this to my 2 Chasidic music lists. We are Chasidic Jews & the dancing we do so often is a way of serving The Infinite One G-D with joy,BUT we dance males separate from females as Torah asks,we would not want to get too joyful in the not- correct way...but for others its very good & I am happy for these great Hungarian people!

@@waslias but it was on sziget and the crowd there is 50% dutch at least. trust me, i've played there 15 years in a row while living in both budapest and amsterdam and i saw the change. what i hear from it is that the percentage of dutch attenders has risen even. haven't been there now since 2019. maybe i go this year again.
