Why is there just not a couch co op section in the store?? Seems like something that should be there
I would love to have a 4 players local versus/coop section. But these games are usually cheap, don't need PS Plus, don't sell add-ons on the store, nor coins to unlock random loot boxes. They don't represent extra money for Sony, so they hide them and they prefer to showcase other cash grab games. "For the players" (who can spend lots of money)

Buy one, you'll get loads more recommended - the store is like Google, Ebay or Amazon, it's tailored to you based on what you've bought in the past.
Failing that, load up PS now, you don't have to sub to it to see the games, and they do have a co-op section to browse to see a lot of the games.
Failing that, and you need even more hand holding, just Google PS4 local co-op games and you'll get a list of every single one.
You ask why there's no section on the store - it's simple, the same as why you see so very few games now that have co-op when a decade or so ago 100s of games had splitscreen/v's/co-op options - people don't play with friends anymore, it's all online. I've lost count how many mates I've visited in the past few years that don't even own a second pad even if you did want a game. Gaming used to be quite a social hobby, I remember having tournaments with mates on PES, Power Stone, Streefighter, Timesplitters, Goldeneye etc etc - now it's far more solitary, playing online with people while having the mic off cos God forbid you have to speak to anyone when gaming.
It's true but I'm not if new skool gamers appreciate how awesome couch co-op really is

Here some reccomended Co-op games: Helldivers, Wild Guns Reloaded, Ninja Saviors, Dead Nation, Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Collection (Final Fight, Captain Commando, etc), SEGA Mega Drive Collection (Golden Axe 1-3, SOR 1-3, Alien Storm, etc), Resogun, Alienation
Salt and sanctuary
The overcooked series could fit in here as well. I have had many hours of fun playing with my brothers, running after mice that steal your food if you leave it unattended.
And then you can't finish the level because you can't stop laughing

To be honest, I haven't played the game. I feel like I don't have the patience for such. But I really like the play on classic action heroes being 8-bit video game characters.
How hard is it?
Resident Evil 5, Army of Two 1&2. I miss those days.

Where the hell is BORDERLANDS 3? One of the coolest couch coops games ever, after some patches the game is incredible!
Also diablo 3 coop is an amazing experience!
Hell Diver I would love to see streamed on ps access, if for nothing else than the possibility of hearing Rob or Nath screaming in rage after getting hit with friendly fire. Greatness awaits.

How did you not mention A Way Out?? its one of the best co op experiences this gen has had.

Disagree. From watching Adamplaze it really seemed lackluster and one player had their own motives hidden until the end.

My favourite was gauntlet dark legacy back on ps2. One weekend, my best friends, 4 controllers, multi tap and a few weeks pocket money worth of snacks. 😔 take me back to those days

Just discovered Divinty Original Sin 2 which can be played couch co-op and it's amazing! Can't believe i never even heard of this game before I'm surprised it's not on the list

Good mention of Resogun, first played that when it was one of the first plus titles on ps4, still play it regularly now
Borderlands, overcooked, diablo3.
Also the "Tales of" titles are amazing for lovers of JRPG titles you can play co-op (which are very rare) although in open world only one player controls, the battles are all up to 4 player couch co-op. My wofe and I have probably clocked over 500hours across all the tales of games.
Gauntlet: Slayer Edition? absolutely love playing through this with friends
Salt and Sanctuary is my recommendation for 2 friends who want a surprisingly deep game with some challenge.

Overcooked 1 or 2! Great couch coop fun. Some of the tougher levels nearly led to divorce mind you..
Worth mentioning: Any of the "Tales of" games can be played with another player for the intire game (up to 4 players at once). The best one in that regard on PS4 is Vesperia.
Also Dynasty Warriors style games. Many of them can be played couch co-op. Samurai Warriors 4, One Piece Pirate Warriors 4, etc.

@@bayu4life Yes. But in Berseria it takes about 3 hours until you get your second character (Rokuro). And the co-op camera in Berseria is not very good (still much better than Zesteria's)

Man Helldivers is so good but criminally underrated. I just went back to start playing it a couple days ago and the game was still fantastic.
Crash Bash would be #1 if it was remade already. Rosie would agreed with me.
Playing Crash Bash's adventure mode, even with two players, was a total nightmare to be honest. The crystal and gem challenges are completely unfair and frustrating, and the fact you have to win everything three times makes the game very repetitive. The game is better suited for playing against eachother in my opinion.

@@in4mus85 True, but we are talking about a PS4 Crash Bash. If it existed, it would prove better for couch co-op while Nitro Refueled is primarily better for online multiplayer.

damn, whoever wrote the script for this hit it outta the park. kudos.
It was probably Nath who wrote the script for this video as he is narrating it. He has a certain style to his writing that is superb at explaining games while also making them sound exciting and fun to play.
Yeah, I did suspect that. I remember a while back finding some written articles by him and them being very well done.
A way out is my favourite
A game that surely would fit well in this list: darksiders genesis. It features a fun local co-op gameplay with combat in the same vein as the other games and isometric camera
Should have added "think of the children". I loved it when you streamed it on the channel xD

I feel like River City Girls is an underrated gem for this type of game (but it does only have local co op which is a shame because i can't play with anyone else, if it had online co op , i'd be able to play with friends darn but it's still very fun in single player thankfully)
Use Share Play to give a friend a controller online, Share Play stops every hour but your friend can just keep jumping in and continuing exactly where you left off. Me and my brother did this for River City Girls, Spelunky, Cuphead and are now gonna go through Indivisible

YES FINALLY HELLDIVERS GETTING SOME LOVE
This was always going to be a Countdown to Lego list for me! My six year old son and I have been playing Lego games for at least two years now, and he has even earned the Platinum for Lego Dimensions on his own account. I'm pretty sure I own all of the games that are available on PS4.
I would have added Rocket League and Portal Knights to this list, two other great games we like to play together. He would add Goat Simulator, but I can only play that one for a fair amount before old dad gets motion sickness.
I might have to add Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris onto my wishlist as after playing Rise, I'm all about Tomb Raiding right now.
I really hope Fall Guys can add couch coop to the list and make it so that the second player can earn the trophies, as Rocket League allows that as do most of the Lego games.

Missing out
amazing list, the only game missing is Resident Evil 5. still one of the best coop games on PS3 and PS4.
I like Diablo 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2, Borderlands 2, The Overcooked series, and Rayman Legends for coop times. Though somehow, we always end up getting a round or two of Starwhal in as well. Not Coop, but definitely a a good game for local multiplayer.
Overcooked and cat quest 3 are great local co-ops. My wife and I also play narrative games(walking dead,until dawn,etc) we just share the controller after each chapter

I played For the King recently and it is worth picking up.
I’m not sure if it’s couch coop for PS4. But we have been having the BEST time with diablo 3 couch coop, with up to 4 players it’s honestly endless fun.
Rayman Legends? Had a lot of fun killing time on that during lockdown

Filter type that would be nice is the various ways to play a game: single, split screen, online only etc.

Gears of War, Halo, Borderlands, Resident Evil Revelations 2, Man of Medan, Diablo, Divinity Original Sin, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Arise, A Way Out, Brothers, CoD BO 3, Doom 1 and 2, LEGO, Minecraft, Never Alone, PvZ GW2, Rayman, Unravel 2, Warhammer Chaosbane, Planet of the Apes. Plus all of the back compat 360 and OG Xbox titles

Came to say Guacamelee deserves to be played (with friends and family especially). It's fun, charming, great music, and up to *FOUR* players Co-op.

Earth Defence Force 5 is the best splitscreen co-op game this gen. EDF 4.1 is pretty good too. The series is the closest thing to Halo on the Playstation and it's unfairly, and consistently, overlooked.
Diablo 3 is my wife and my go to. Although it's arpg it's also very arcade like. Playing new season 21 and loving the challenge of greater rifts
You should have some honorable mentions like Outward.

The updates to Swords Of Ditto has changed the Permadeath mechanics compared to when it launched btw
