Tony's on spaghetti is amazing. Also in gravies over rice, or chicken, or Sunday roasts, or as she said, literally everything. So glad you liked the Zapps. An addendum. Sprinkle some on the regular flavored chips. 😜

Something really cool about salt water taffy, is that it’s not made with an ocean-type water like a lot of people think it is, it’s actually made from salted freshwater!!! The best state to get saltwater taffy is definitely from Maryland! 💛

I’m from Louisiana and yes, we like our food spicy. The state is known for its Creole and Cajun Foods. Louisiana is a little different than a lot of other states. We are definitely part of the south but we also have our own very uniqueness about us and definitely known for food. When it comes to Tony’s seasoning, that goes on everything I eat almost. I don’t carry it in my purse though. lol Most restaurants actually have it there to use.
Please, it’s not a Pee-can (how you pronounce Pecan). As I tell others that pronounce it that particular way, a pee-can is something that you would place beside your bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night if you’re too lazy to go walk to the toilet. Eating that would not be a good idea. LOL How we pronounce it in Louisiana is puh-kaan.
    I enjoyed the video!

  • @jilliann6770
    @jilliann6770 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hello from Texas! Tony's seasoning is a must to keep in the pantry here. Most everyone I know uses it quite frequently. The one y'all had was original, but there's also one called "more spice" that's got more heat. I think people from Texas & Louisiana (or the South) have more of a tolerance for spicy foods, generally speaking. We always have fresh jalapenos on hand at our house.

Yes! I've been waiting for this video ever since you announced that you had a box of Zapps coming. I grew up eating the spicy cajun crawtators, and I loved the sweet creole onion when they came out. I also grew up eating the Elmer's Chee Weez with green onion being my favorite. I put Tony's in everything. It goes great as a substitute for salt and pepper. Elmer's also makes candy in Louisiana, and there are several items that you can only get around Easter.

Divinity is literally the hardest thing to make. The weather has to be right, the humidity has to be right, you have to hold your tongue in the right position, you have to wear only a left shoe, have your shirt on backwards, and sacrifice a chicken to make sure it comes out right...🤣🤣🤣

The Voodoo came about when several of their different spices for other flavors got mixed together in a factory accident. They did a limited run and got such a positive result that it became a regular flavor. My favorite flavor is the Cajun Dill Gator Taters. They have a flavor called Crawtater because the spices are similar to those used in crawfish boil seasoning.

Different peppers hit you to a different strength, but also... in different spots and at different times. Part of the art of cooking spicy foods is knowing which hit where and when and using them strategically. Also, while green jalapeños are fairly mild and grassy in flavour, red (fully ripe) ones are extremely hot and rarely used.

I think the packaging of Zapps is emphasizing New Orleans. The French Quarter with the street lamps like on the packages, the stripes remind me of Mardi Gras, and the Fleur di lis is a French symbol (as well as Louisiana symbol).

Twizzlers and red vines and other such licorice type candy are (For me at least) A nostalgia candy. I ate it as a very young kid, my dad ate it, my grandparents ate licorice. It's pretty common for the old folks to have a bucket of Twizzlers in their cupboard for when the grandkids come over. At first I thought it was just my family, but it seems quite common now.
I remember being very young and watching tv, with my siblings and cousins with a bucket of licorice sticks between us all while the adults had their conversations.

Zapps are my favorite. We get them here in Texas. Cajun Crawtater and Cajun Dill are the best. You need to do a "low country boil" with that creole seasoning. Basically, boil shrimp, crawfish, sausage, new potatoes, and corn cobs with water, butter, and a @#!& ton of that seasoning. Oh and we say "puh-cahn," only northerners say "pee-can" 😁

Kate & Alex ... Kate I see that you love slat & vinegar chips ... so do I. I grew up near Montreal, Quebec, Canada and back in the late 1950’s. We didn’t have salt & vinegar chips so we would go and buy Maple Leaf (regular) chips, which were in foil type packages and sprinkle white vinegar on them in the bag, thus making our own salt & vinegar chips. Mushy but yummy!

The Zapp's package design is based on the French Quarter in New Orleans. The streetlights and street signs are familiar to anyone who's been there.
Salt water taffy gets its name from the fact that it was originally sold at seaside resort cities and amusement parks, like Atlantic City, New Jersey and Coney Island, New York. There isn't any salt in the recipe.

The fluer-de-lis is the New Orleans symbol , it can also be found as the symbol for the saints football 🏈 it is from the royal arms of France which is heavily dominant in the French quarter❤️ you guys trooped through!and yes I can eat a whole bag of the spiciest chips but with milk 🥛

I forgot the green apple suckers existed... those were THE candy when I was in middle school (along with Jolly Rancher and WarHeads). I’ll have to go get some to try again.
You mentioned you have the jalapeño Cheetos coming up. They are SOOOO good. Not spicy, just a hint of jalapeño. I’m addicted to them and the flaming hot ones.
