It would be so much more helpful if the government used SARS offered tax returns as a tool for employers of domestic workers to invest in upskilling and provide upward mobility to their helpers, perhaps even offering. separate fund for monthly essentials for their helpers, this would create a great steppingstone for many younger workers, and will go a long way to kurb future unemployment. Govt is making it too difficult for ppl to hire domestic workers with their new labour laws. Now even if you hire someone for one day a week they have certain labour rights that can put the employer in trouble with labour court. Minimum wage is now R220, 64 if they work 8hrs per day Which is over 4k per month Majority if S.A cannot afford this. So ppl go to foreigners. The govt does not he,p create employment but rather hamper it. I met this woman that worked at 3 places & was payed R600 per day to go once a week. When her employers had to register her for UIF 2 rather terminated her contract & got a cleaning company. She even went to the cleaning company but they made her clean 4- 5 houses per day for R250 per day & expected her to buy her own cleaning products. She now does ironing in the township for whatever money ppl give her. 😢
