I remember spending hours on this game completing all the hero variations and unlocking everything I could as I just found this game so much fun. It was also my first step into making original characters and seeing where I am now, I’ll gladly thank this game for giving me my first step.
I've rediscovered this game, and found out something crucial. KI IS EVERYTHING. For without it, you can't escape from attacks or defend from supers. Also, prioritize keeping Ki maxed out and getting behind the enemy for free damage.
To be honest, I actually liked playing this game back when it first came and playing through all three hero modes trying to unlock everything exclusive for each one. The sad thing I wished they would have done was make the gameplay more like the Raging Blast or Budokai Tenkaichi games but kept the graphics because the way the attacks looked game were phenomenal and still is in my opinion.
I was young when i first played this game about 8-9 i remember being stuck on this game because i didnt know how to jitterclick so i gave up years later at around 12 years old i decided to go back on and beat it and the achievement i felt whilst beating the jitterclicks were euphoric
I look at this game as a sort of Asura’s Wrath type of feel. Not exactly the deepest or most complex game, but it’s fun for the style, fanservice, and interactive anime kind of feel. Also the Hero mode was surprisingly fun to play through.
Don't compare this piece of shit to Asura's Wrath. This garbage is so repetitive and empty where Asura's Wrath isn't. Asura's visuals and choreography are leagues above this cut and paste rock paper scissors bullshit game I'm shocked you didn't bite your tongue off uttering that blasphemy.
I think asuras wrath excels compared to UT by Virtue of it being a cinematic single player experience- its much harder to make something like that well-integrated if you have to redo a whole section for messing up a qte, where in asuras wrath its typically only ever that section or even just a lower score, meaning its much less punishing even though its a far, far greater part of the asuras wrath gameplay asuras wrath was also usually pretty good about having the QTE's constantly feel tight and directly tied to the anims even if they weren't, whereas just sections of 3 buttons or just 1 random button to dodge isn't satisfying, especially since AW tends to be more consistent with like your attack button attacking in qtes, dodge dodging, control stick movement moving the player character etc. It isn't impossible for something like UT to really exceed expectations and potentially set new ground, but it needs to be looked at like how we look at tenkaichi 1 imo: a solid foundation. Dragon ball tekken with player OC options and heavy cinematics feels like the natural conclusion, even if id prefer something more like tenkaichi in terms of not having particular gameplay "phases" if that makes sense
The memories I have with this game with my 2 brothers in 2014 man… You doing a scale of 1 to 10 on this is really appreciated and my brothers and I playing the story modes and multiplayer together was sure a blast from the past. I can’t wait to re-set up my Xbox 360 in the future so us 3 brothers could re-experience the times we had with each other on this Dragon Ball game. Props to you for the making of this video! 👍👌
On the story mode skipping over most of the events and summing it up with text, the game does have a ton of unused audio in its sound files suggesting that it'd be even longer. I haven't uncovered all of them yet, but a highlight would be over 30 lines that go unused in the fight against Freeza as SS Goku. Goku going Super Saiyan (which did reuse RB1 dialogue for chunks of it, but there were new lines as well,) him talking to King Kai about letting Freeza power up, and Vegeta's attempt to attack Freeza before being teleported off Namek. There's more than just that, but there is a ton of unused audio in the game's files. An oddity also rears its head with SS2 Goku. Pit SS or SS3 Goku up against Omega Shenron, and they'll speak in their normal voices, do the same with SS2 Goku and you'll be met with this odd, grizzly sounding voice reminiscent of SS4 Goku. Could be a botched recording, but I'd like to think that he was planned for UT at some point or another seeing as how Goku randomly jumps from SS3 to SS4 Gogeta in the opening cutscene.
I was like 13 when I got it and played it for less than a day and traded it back. My first game had been raging blast, so it was too different and very disappointing.
I absolutely love this game...I could never forget unlocking ssj for the first time after playing all night ..plus at the time the combos were more than entertaining...and The character creation paved the way for XenoVerse in my opinion
8:50 I had to figure this out because the game didn't tell me. You need Ki to teleport during chains; it's not enough to just mash the buttons. It takes a small amount, but if you don't have that Ki you just can't get out of the chain. This is especially painful when the opponent hits you with the light chain that drains Ki, because you could have every right to think you can pull it off only for your ki to drop below the threshold. Hero Mode is especially bad with this since the enemies' chain hits take away so much more Ki than yours. Edit: okay, guess just missed it in the tutorial
This game was undoubtedly garbage for the rock, paper, scissors shoot playstyle. my opinion on tht aspect can’t change. Although, i am on the side that believes this game kinda paved the way for xenoverse character creation. The graphics was dope, the hero mode story was awesome and til this day i wish i could’ve seen a continuation of the ending in either another game or something
As a kid i wasnt able to get past vegeta because i couldnt mash hard enough. Unfortunately i dont have the game anymore but i wish i could have played it again to experience the full thing
Not having watched the video yet, I really enjoyed this game as a kid, getting everything I can from Hero Mode. But I do understand why people didn’t like this game.
Hero mode was awesome but it take for to level up. I like it more then story mode. Almost every dbz game has the same storyline. I just wish you had more custom options for your character too. The game still looks great. I also wish everyone had their own fighting style too. Everyone just have a copy and paste move list. I had fun with hero mode 🤔
It's objectively bad as a fighting game. Spike's games were never going to be at EVO but UT's combat is simplified to the point where it's for people with physical and mental disabilities. Almost everything you do activates a cutscene of sorts and your options are extremely limited. It's sad because UT does everything else pretty good. Not a bad game overall. 6/10.
Its really mostly the bad turn based system that ruined it. It was supposed to be a Tenkaichi game for the fans to end the series, but the devs just changed too much from what worked instead of just remaking the perfect BT4 it could have been imo. BT3 had such a good combat system, and the BT4 mod added BT3's storymode exclusive air-clash mechanic into the gameplay. UT also had a character creator (but no female option?). It fixed the visuals from RB2 (I thought looked too plastic-y) but gave the game really washed out colors, and removed the SS hair glow. Its a disappointent from fumbles. Messing up a perfect formula for gameplay and visual detail.
In short yes but it had some nice qualities like hair changing shape when transforming and voice acted cacs not just saying a moves name and arena destruction
I’ve always said this game is good as long as they changed the combat system. I remember having some of my happiest moments making my own character and you could even make him a child if you wanted to. I enjoyed it but that combat system was trash you’re basically playing Rock Paper Scissors to finish a combo it makes no sense everything else like flying around the world to do another mission and stuff was super enjoyable I really hope they do this again but better
The game had potential but really mainly in the cinematics. Especially compared to like xenoverse or battle of Z, but I still prefer the gameplay of XV or previous tenkaichi games, or honestly even tekken. It feels like the game was on the cusp of something really unique and cool but never quite found that foothold because it chose to play it a bit safer to reach the top if that makes sense- also sometimes the giant fights are fun but I kinda hate being stuck in one tiny area to avoid attacks like im in classic kirby or something, especially since there's not really much else in most DB games I've played for situations like ki running out to the point you can't fly for a bit, which would've made those scenes better and honestly could've lead to some cooler situations in gameplay where you're trying to exhaust a typically ranged opponent so you can beat em down when you're finally in range. Really I think the issue is that the game doesn't lean as hard into the diagesis of QTEs and the timing and location(button / control stick / etc) of the inputs in relation to the animations and the actual gameplay functions of the inputs, but not enough into fair balanced fighting like xenoverse either, leaving it at this really really awkward in-between. Still played it for like at least 100 hours tho back in 2013ish won't lie lmao
Ah,ultimate tenkaichi the gameplay may not be the best but the reanimated cutscenes, graphics, and giant boss battles were always fun to revisit and play around with. Sory mode and CAC was pretty enjoyable for what it was too.
It being a mediocre Dbz wasn't the problem for me, but it having the absolute NERVE to call itself ULTIMATE tenkaichi... There, we have a problem, good sir.

No it's awful, rng gameplay, all of the good stuff that are present in this game you can find in other games done better. Usless game. A shamless cash grab game with reutilized animations from Raging Blast. It's incredible how nostalgia can make people appreciate games like these.

By a concept of just "being a game" No it's not bad. Its an absolutely fucking ATROCIOUS dragonball game though and anyone who disagrees isn't necessarily "wrong". You just enjoy the rock, paper, scissors mechanic. You can't have an objectively "wrong" opinion about something you personally enjoy. A Dragonball game is THE COMBAT. No one cares about menus, no one cares about mini-games, all that shit comes afterwards. No one wants to do flashy shit just to rely on "okay I did really really cool shit that would usually do a lot of damage in a normal DB style game. But now. It's time.... to bring all my focus... all my adrenaline.. every single thing I worked for... for the one ultimate technique.. the MANTRA of our Saiyan blood and legend... it is the one and only.... press the random button and hope you guessed correctly!!!! AAAGHHHHHH IM POWERING UPPPPPP" Like nah fam this whole concept of a DB game is cringe, ridiculous, and there is no way this should EVER come back as a main piece. This type of shit should be made into a mini-game in a sub-menu. Rock, paper, scissors is the literal exact opposite of what Dragonball combat is. (Yes I know there is DB, DBZ, DBGT, DBS, don't fucking be all cringe and tell me "wElL tHiS gAmE iSnT dRaGoNbAlL iTs dRaGoNbAlL ZzZzZzZz) I'm not hating on anyone's enjoyment on this game. But yes. the evade qte is easy the key is to remember that it isnt delayed like the circle timing thing in the bosses
