It is not polite to ask a woman her age but Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie is from 42 years ago compared to Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice being 34 years ago, and I would say that she is nearer to 30 than 40.

Bowie stands out because of his chord progressions... he always goes in a direction you don't expect. He was the same breaking the boundaries of musical genres. You just can't put a label on him. Only after his passing I immersed myself in his albums and they were are real eye opener.

David Bowie is an enigma that NEEDS to be explored! He is so versatile and so diverse in his presentation of his music. His days with various backing musicians (because there didn't seem to be any set 'band' that he played with) such as his days as Ziggy, are incredible! The album Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is an incredible concoction of music! You should check it out for sure! I was also so happy when Vanilla Ice was sued for using the music from this song for his song 'Ice, Ice, baby'. It made me really happy when Queen and David won the suit!

Hi Stacey, great reaction! TY! Yes, the bass line was stolen and made famous in "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, Queen sued and won out of court for an undisclosed amount... Trivia: Freddie Bulsara met David Bowie in a London haberdashery shop and Freddie sold him a pair of boots... when Queen was in studio in Montreaux, Bowie dropped in and played around before going to dinner, then went back to studio and came up with "Under Pressure" (their only song)... and yes, you were right, they never sang it together, the Bowie clips were from the tribute concert, which is a must-see experience to music enthusiasts... blessings.

Freddie's amazing talent and commitment comes through with the last song he recorded "The Show Must Go On". Freddie was extremely ill when Brian May wrote the song, which is about Freddie's AIDS and trying to figure out how to go on with it. Brian was convinced that by the time Freddie went to record the lead vocals for the song that it was too complex for how sick he was, but according to May, Freddie took a shot of vodka, told May 'I've got this, babe' and then nailed what is, especially in hindsight, a brilliant and heartbreaking performance in a single take.

David Bowie was an eclectic and brilliant songwriter and performer. His voice was unique and powerful and his songs were emotional and vivid. He was also a really good actor who had the good sense not to do it too often.
A good entrance to Bowie is the movie Labyrinth, he not only plays The Goblin King, but he wrote all five songs (including one he doesn't sing) with lyrics in the movie. And it is a really fun and, I personally think, great movie.

So so many Bowie songs to do. First and foremost "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy", a double song . Bowie wrote his part just minutes before the show as he really dislikes Little Drummer Boy. Other than covering the lyrics they sang that live for Bing Crosby's Christmas show unrehearsed. So professional were both that they gave us a masterpiece. Bing didn't even know who Bowie was before this.
Next two songs are "Rebel Rebel" and "Space Oddity". Those three will addict you so be careful.

When I saw Queen, the 2nd time, in Madison Square Garden in July of 1982, it was during their "Hot Space" tour. "Under Pressure" is off that record. Once that bass line started, the audience went nuts, hoping maybe, just maybe, David Bowie might show up. Sadly, he didn't, I forget if Brian or Roger sang his verses. On the initial recording of under pressure by Queen, Queen was in the studio. Recording it without David Bowie. David Bowie happened to stop by to say hi to Freddie Mercury and Queen and Freddy asked him to join in on the song. After this song was recorded, the two record companies were arguing as to who would get the royalties for this hit? Both Queen and David Bowie were very irate with their respective record companies. They did not care who got the credit because it was something out of the blue with respect to the collaboration.

A duet and collaboration that’s difficult to top.
David is a very malleable artist. He changed and innovated constantly over the years.
Even into his 50s he was so relevant and in touch with the younger generations his latest album’s music was used by Australia’s new MTV clone cable music channel as their theme song.
He’s got a huge catalogue of songs, but here’s a few to consider:
    Golden Years
    Rebel Rebel
    Young Americans
    Fashion
    Ashes To Ashes
    Space Oddity
    Changes
    The Jean Genie
    Dead Man Walking

Bowie is, was, the Artist. Musical genius, performer, actor, producer, creator, innovator, pioneer of Glam Rock (along with Marc Bolan) and ahead of his time.
Check out a little of his history before analyzing it, look at the amount of incredible images from his entire career and then you will understand it better.

I love when people say they've heard the bassline before... well here is your explanation on that:
Vanilla Ice sampled the bassline for "Ice Ice Baby" without crediting Queen or David Bowie (the song was created by them). It led to a lawsuit which was settled out of court and royalties from Ice Ice Baby go to Queen, and their credits were added to Ice Ice Baby. Vanilla Ice still gets around $300k - $400k in royalties a year from the song. So he was huge in the 90s because of the success of Ice Ice Baby, but the legal troubles led to him dying out in popularity.

The bass riff that you recognize was used in the one hit wonder , Vanilla Ice , and is in his song "Ice Ice Baby"
That song pales to the original, "Under Pressure" by a landslide. Freddie and David sang that song to perfection. 🖤🎼

Fantastic reaction! Even though there are artists I prefer more than Bowie and Queen, this is my absolute #1 favorite song of all time. I am not even sure why. The original video is one reason. Its regarded as one of the best ever, please take a look at it.
When they recorded it, David and Freddie were isolated from each other so that they couldn't hear the other improvise. You totally picked up on that.
Lastly, the version Queen played at the tribute concert with Bowie and Annie Lennox is guaranteed to tear you up. There is great footage of them rehearsing it too, but they hold back a bit. But not at the live performance. Annie is a powehouse on stage. It had to be a tough to perform this after losing their good friend and you can see this in Annie's desperate embrace and the look she gives David right after the performance. It slays me every single time.

The bass line is from ice ice baby. David sung at the Freddie tribute concert. George Michael singing someone to love is brilliant.

Freddy Mercury is so gifted he could make the now classic McDonald's jingle of "I'm Loving It" in a beautiful song.

I highly recommend the live version at Wembley 1986 where Freddie plays with the crowd before starting the song, it's legendary.

I am so glad you found Bowie. Queen and Bowie are in my top 5 of all time. I suggest to start on David Bowie at the end of his career wit Blackstar, When you do understand he was dying of a long terminal illness when he made it. I'll be watching for our take.

The base line at the beginning was sampled without permission by Vanilla Ice on "Ice Ice Baby" and it ended up costing him $4 million.

It's a conundrum to pick where your David Bowie journey should start. He grew & grew from year to year & redefined himself on almost every consecutive album. From '67 to 2016, he was a chameleon that rarely disappointed, more likely blew you away. Some would say start from his first hit "Space Oddity". Not a bad idea, but if I wanted to highlight the inventiveness of his career, I'd say start with the song "Heroes" ('77). The truth is, anywhere is as good a place to start as any, because the next song you listen to will be like a brand new start.

Two music legends which we've sadly lost, R.I.P. Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.
Another great baseline from John Deacon, that's where this song started, it was co written by both David and Queen, David wrote the lyrics, Freddie and the band the rest of it. This and "Another One Bites the Dust" are probably two of the best baselines of all time, I don't feel that John gets the recognition which he deserves, but Queen was a band with an embarrassment of riches.
